What is Wavelog?

Wavelog is the self-hosted logbook for radio amateurs, in upstream's words: log your QSOs from anywhere. It records contacts, manages station profiles, tracks awards and handles QSL workflows. Upstream also offers WavelogGate for easy CAT data transfer from your rig. A self-hosted Wavelog is MIT licensed, and upstream runs a public demo site that you can try before you decide to deploy your own.

On xCloud the template runs Wavelog 3.2.0 with MariaDB 11.8.3, both pinned by digest, and only Wavelog is published over HTTPS. The database, configuration, uploads and user data sit on four volumes. xCloud generates only the database credentials: you open the /install page, enter db as the database server, and create the first account and station profile there.

Is Wavelog free?

Yes. Wavelog is MIT licensed, so the logbook has no licence fee. You pay xCloud for the dedicated Cloud VPS that runs Wavelog and MariaDB, and a log of contacts takes little disk compared with the uploads you add.

How much RAM does Wavelog need?

The manifest lists 1 CPU core, 1024 MB of RAM and 10 GB of disk across Wavelog and MariaDB. The 6 GB plan leaves comfortable room for a large log and for other apps on the same server.

Can you self-host Wavelog with Docker?

Yes, and this template is Wavelog Docker hosting without the setup: the ghcr.io/wavelog/wavelog 3.2.0 image and MariaDB 11.8.3, both pinned by digest, generated database credentials, four named volumes and HTTPS on your domain, with the database kept private.

How do I create the first Wavelog account?

Open https://your-domain/install after deployment. Enter db as the database server and the database name, user and password from your credentials panel, then complete Wavelog's installer to create the first account and your station profile, then log your first contact.

Does xCloud generate a Wavelog administrator account?

No. xCloud generates the database credentials only. Wavelog's own installer, using those database values, is where you create the first account, so choose a strong password there. The MariaDB root password is not shown in the panel.

Can I send radio data to Wavelog automatically?

Upstream offers WavelogGate for easy CAT data transfer from your rig to Wavelog. The template does not set it up, so you install and point it at your Wavelog address yourself, after the logbook is running.

Why must the Wavelog database values stay the same?

The database name, user and passwords initialise MariaDB only on its first start. Changing a password later requires updating it for the existing database user first, then updating MARIADB_PASSWORD to match and redeploying, so keep the generated values safe.

How do I back up Wavelog?

Back up all four volumes together at one point in time: wavelog_db with your QSOs and settings, wavelog_config, wavelog_uploads and wavelog_userdata. A partial copy will not restore a working logbook, so test a restore before relying on it.

How do I upgrade Wavelog?

The install stays on Wavelog 3.2.0 and MariaDB 11.8.3 until you adopt a newer template version. Back up all four volumes first and read the upstream release notes. Nothing upgrades the app automatically, and a redeploy keeps all four volumes with your log intact.

Is there a Wavelog cloud service I can use?

This page is your own Wavelog cloud: a dedicated Cloud VPS running the open-source logbook, with your contacts in a private MariaDB on volumes of your own. Nobody else shares it, and the database has no published port.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
