What is Wavelog?

Wavelog is an open-source, self-hosted amateur-radio logbook for recording QSOs, managing station profiles, tracking awards, and handling QSL workflows from a browser. This template deploys version 3.2.0.

Is Wavelog free?

Yes — Wavelog is free and open source under the MIT License. What you pay xCloud for is the dedicated server it runs on and the management around it, not the software itself.

Can I self-host Wavelog?

Yes — that is exactly what this template deploys. It brings up the official Wavelog image alongside a private MariaDB database, both pinned by immutable digest, mounts four persistent volumes, and publishes it over HTTPS on your domain in minutes instead of assembled by hand.

How do I create the first account and sign in?

Open https://your-domain/install after deployment. Use db as the database server, and enter the database name, user and password shown once in xCloud's Credentials panel. Complete Wavelog's own installer to create the first account and station profile, then sign in.

What does xCloud configure automatically?

A private MariaDB database with a generated name, user, password and root password, the domain, and the HTTPS route. Only Wavelog itself is published — MariaDB stays private to the internal network. The MariaDB root password is infrastructure-only and is not shown in the customer Credentials panel.

Does xCloud generate a Wavelog administrator account for me?

No. xCloud generates the database credentials only. Wavelog's own /install flow, using those database values, is where you create the first account and station profile.

What should I back up?

wavelog_db, wavelog_config, wavelog_uploads and wavelog_userdata together, from the same recovery point: the database volume holds QSOs, accounts, settings and station profiles, while the other three hold Wavelog's installer configuration and your uploaded and generated data. Use an application-consistent database backup.

Backups in xCloud

Does xCloud automatically back up or update Wavelog?

No. The template pins Wavelog and MariaDB by immutable digest; a catalog re-sync affects new installations only. Review Wavelog's upstream release and migration notes, take a coordinated backup of all four volumes, and verify login plus a representative QSO before changing any pinned image.

How do I rotate the database password?

Change it for the existing MariaDB user first, then update the MARIADB_PASSWORD value to match and redeploy. The generated database name, user and passwords initialize MariaDB only on first start and must otherwise stay stable.

What are the server requirements, and why does this page sell 6 GB?

The template manifest asks for 1 GB of RAM, one CPU core and 10 GB of disk as a floor for Wavelog alongside MariaDB. This page sells the 6 GB tier as the entry rung, with real headroom above that floor for QSO history and uploaded QSL material as it grows.

What survives a restart?

Everything on wavelog_db, wavelog_config, wavelog_uploads and wavelog_userdata, because all four are persistent named volumes. Restarting the containers does not touch your accounts, station profiles, QSOs or uploaded data.

Is MariaDB reachable from the internet?

No. MariaDB publishes no host port and stays on the internal xcloud-network — only Wavelog is exposed, through xCloud's HTTPS proxy.

Is xCloud officially partnered with Wavelog?

No. No official partnership or endorsement between xCloud and the Wavelog project has been verified. This is a deployment and server-management option for the open-source Wavelog project.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
