What is Baby Buddy?

Self-hosted Baby Buddy is a baby tracker, a buddy for babies that helps caregivers track sleep, feedings, diaper changes, tummy time and more to learn about and predict a baby's needs with less guesswork. Upstream's README says it is available in a variety of languages, with a language setting per user, and the project is licensed BSD-2-Clause. It is a self-hosted alternative to cloud baby-tracking apps such as Huckleberry.

On xCloud the template runs the LinuxServer build of Baby Buddy v2.11.0, the container its own docs recommend, pinned by digest. It uses SQLite, with no database container, and a single babybuddy_config volume holds the database and uploaded child photos. There is no public sign-up: you create caregiver accounts from Settings, and password-reset email needs SMTP.

How much RAM does a Baby Buddy cloud server need?

Yes. Add other caregivers under Settings, Users. There is no public sign-up, so only accounts you create can log in. The user form offers read-only and caregiver roles for people who should not manage settings, and each user can choose a timezone.

Does Baby Buddy have a mobile app?

Yes, in two ways. Upstream's README shows mobile views of the web interface, so a phone browser works on your HTTPS address, and its Mobile list links Baby Buddy for Android and a Baby Buddy Companion for iOS. Point either app at your own domain and sign in.

How do I sign in to a new Baby Buddy?

Open your HTTPS URL and sign in as admin with the generated password in your credentials. The stock admin login is replaced before the web server starts, and only while it still has the stock password. Change the password from the user menu; editing the environment later does nothing.

How do I back up Baby Buddy?

Take a backup of the babybuddy_config volume, which holds the SQLite database, uploaded child photos and the image's nginx configuration. Keep the SECRET_KEY stable with it, because changing it signs every user out. Test a restore before you rely on the copy.

Why can I not reset my Baby Buddy password by email?

Email is optional and off by default. Uncomment the EMAIL lines in the Environment editor, enter your SMTP details and Save and Redeploy; until then password-reset emails are not delivered. Keep ALLOWED_HOSTS and CSRF_TRUSTED_ORIGINS in line if you change the domain.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
