Zot Registry Hosting Live In 5 Minutes

Zot Registry hosting on xCloud lets you deploy Zot Registry, a production-ready, vendor-neutral OCI image registry, as a private place for your Docker and OCI images on your own domain. xCloud runs the pinned official image with a persistent image volume, creates the single account with a generated password and publishes it over HTTPS. Nobody can pull, push or browse without those credentials.

What is Zot Registry?

zot is a production-ready, vendor-neutral OCI image registry, built purely on the OCI Distribution Specification, which stores images in the OCI image format. A self-hosted Zot Registry is a private OCI image registry on your own server, an alternative to Docker Hub for images you do not want public. It is Apache-2.0 licensed. The template adds a web UI and search to browse what you have pushed.

On xCloud it is Zot v2.1.22, the official image pinned by digest, as one container with the zot_data volume holding images. The template creates exactly one account, with a username you choose and a generated password, and refuses anonymous requests. Vulnerability scanning is switched off to save memory. xCloud does not back up or restore images for this app, so you protect the volume yourself.

From Sign-Up to a Live Registry In Just 3 Easy Steps

A private registry normally means a registry process, an authentication file, a volume, a domain and a certificate before the first push. This is the same result without assembling any of it.

  1. Step 01

Create your xCloud account and pick Zot Registry from the OneClick catalog. Choose your domain and target server, and optionally change the registry username (the default is admin).

  2. Step 02

    We Deploy It For You

One click. We bring up the official Zot image, pinned by immutable digest, alongside two small private helper containers with no published ports — one builds the password file, one checks readiness. We mount the zot_data volume for your images, generate a strong password and publish the registry over HTTPS on your domain.

  3. Step 03

Log In And Push An Image

Save the password from the protected installation credentials and open your HTTPS Zot URL. From a Docker client run docker login with your Registry Host, then tag an image as <Registry Host>/<repository>:<tag> and push it.

Everything Zot Registry Does, On Your Own Server

Zot runs in full here: an OCI-native registry with a web UI and search on your own domain, locked behind a password.

  • Docker And OCI Images

Store and serve Docker and OCI images and artifacts from your own domain, using the standard docker login, docker push and docker pull commands.

  • Built-In Web UI And Search

Browse repositories and tags, and search the registry, from the web UI served on the same address as the registry API.

  • Private By Default

Anonymous requests are refused, including pulls. Requests without or with wrong credentials get a 401, and the web UI redirects to the login page.

  • Garbage Collection And Deduplication

Garbage collection and blob deduplication are enabled, so layers shared between images are not stored twice.

  • Persistent Image Storage

Images live in the zot_data volume. Pushed images and the account survived an xCloud Restart in QA, with tags intact and re-pull working.

  • Small Footprint

The registry used about 70 MiB of RAM on QA after a push and pull round-trip, so it fits beside your other apps.

Everything You Need To Run Your Image Registry 24/7

Managed hosting for Zot Registry, so the parts that keep it online are not your problem.

  • Zot Registry v2.1.22 deployed instantly
  • Official image pinned by digest
  • Registry password generated for you
  • Kept behind xCloud nginx
  • Free SSL certificate
  • Persistent zot_data image volume
  • Server security updates included
  • Choose your server region
  • Unused balance refunded

What You Can Do With Zot Registry

  • Host private images for your own servers

Push your application images to your own registry and pull them on your servers, so deployments do not depend on a public registry's availability or limits.

  • Store OCI artifacts as well as images

Keep Docker and OCI images and artifacts in one registry that follows the OCI Distribution Specification, so tools that speak the standard can use it.

  • Browse images in a web UI

Open the web UI to search repositories and tags after signing in, so you can find what was pushed without remembering exact names.

  • Keep build output out of public registries

Let CI push internal builds to your own address with one set of credentials, so unreleased code never lands on a public registry.

Zot Registry vs Alternatives

Docker Hub
Docker Hub is a hosted registry. Zot Registry stores images in a volume on your own server, with anonymous pulls refused and one account that you control.
GitHub Container Registry
GitHub Container Registry is a hosted registry tied to GitHub. A self-hosted Zot is a standalone OCI registry, so your images do not depend on a code host account.
Gitea
Gitea has its own OneClick page. It is a Git forge that can also hold packages; Zot is a dedicated OCI registry with its own web UI and search.
Harbor
Harbor is a separate open-source registry project. Zot is an OCI-native registry built on the OCI Distribution Specification; the upstream repository links its own comparison file, which this page does not repeat.

See why agencies, developers, startups, and growing businesses choose xCloud to power their projects.

xCloud works really well, I am surprised by its performance being this the release version, I have tried many paid platforms such as runcloud, cloudpages or serveravatar, as well as free platforms such as CyberPanel, CloudPanel or Hestia Control Panel and direct competitors such as SpinupWP and FlyWP. Of all those that I have tried, the platform that works best for WordPress is SpinupWP and I believe that xCloud can reach and surpass that development, its roadmap is promising. Congratulations to the xCloud team, I hope they become the leading platform in the segment, it has all the potential to achieve it!
Brian Geovanny
I've been with runcloud for the last 3 years. However, after trying xcloud for the last month, I'm switching over. They are on a roll with their setup.
Kevin Pineda
I'm moving my servers to xCloud, a cloud control panel by M Asif Rahman and the WPDeveloper team. Their roadmap looks interesting and no, there are no team mates nor API limits with xCloud! #xCloud #wordpress #hosting

xCloud is like having an expert server team on call — without the big agency costs. It's given me back my time and given my clients peace of mind. Highly recommended for freelancers and small teams who want reliable performance and security.

xCloud isn't just a solution. It's like one of that friend who got your back when you screw things up pretty bad.

Trust me when I say, once people explore the potential of xCloud they gonna switch from other panels, just keep delivering the best tech, lots of love for the team 😍😍

So far my experience has been smooth like silk. I didn't imagine that configuring and managing a VPS would be so easy. As of today, I have deployed 8 sites. The support is good, and they treat users with respect, even if they ask stupid questions (myself included). For the future, I hope for greater flexibility in scheduled backups and more comprehensive and consistent documentation. I'm sure that within a few months, xCloud will become the leader in its segment. This community is amazing, and the Staff here is super helpful.

Came from cloudways then to runcloud then to xcloud. Looks like I'm staying here.
Gerson El
I've recently taken all of my Vultr-hosted sites and gotten rid of cPanel for them to substitute it with xCloud. I have to say, I'm really impressed with xCloud so far! The interface is definitely the standout feature for me.
Tony Lewis
I came from Cloudways and won't go back. Highly impressed with xCloud. Glad I gave them a chance.
Jared McDowell
I like xCloud better than RunCloud, but one thing I'll point out is that some years ago RunCloud was hungry for business, the support was outstanding, and the community was active and helped each other. Maybe it was sold, there was a change in management, or they stopped being hungry, but the quality of the RunCloud offering declined and it hasn't been moving forward quickly. My point is that currently the xCloud team has the edge and it is theirs to keep or lose

Dear xCloud Team, I have been using xCloud for some time now and am genuinely impressed with its capabilities and the flexibility it offers by allowing users to bring their own VPS for management. It's a fantastic service, and my experience so far has been very positive. Successful migrated 5 sites on a single server. Xcloud migration tool worked great. There were few hiccups with security plugin like MalCare but disabling the plugin prior to migration worked just fine.

Frequently Asked Questions

Feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns you may have.

How much RAM does Zot Registry need?

The template floor is 512 MB of RAM, 1 CPU core and 10 GB of disk. Zot is a single Go service, so the 6 GB plan is far above it, and the images you store are what grow the disk.

Can you self-host Zot Registry with Docker?

Yes, and this template is zot registry docker hosting without the setup: the official image pinned by digest, a zot_data volume, one account with a generated password and HTTPS on your own domain, with anonymous access refused.

How do I push images to Zot Registry?

Run docker login with your registry host, the username and the password from your credentials, then tag images as registry-host/repository:tag and push. The template creates exactly one account, which can sign in, pull and push.

Is my Zot Registry private?

Yes. Anonymous requests are refused, so nobody can pull, push or browse without the single account's credentials. Change them in the Environment editor and redeploy, then sign in again from every client. Share the credentials only with people you trust.

Why are large pushes to Zot Registry rejected?

Pushes are accepted up to 10 GB per request here, but a domain proxied through Cloudflare rejects any single request over about 100 MB. Use a DNS-only record for this domain if you push large image layers.

Is Zot Registry an alternative to Docker Hub or Harbor?

For a private registry, yes. Upstream describes a vendor-neutral OCI registry and links a comparison file that this page does not restate. You run the disk, backups and credentials yourself. Test your pull workflow first.

Is Zot Registry free?

Yes. zot is Apache-2.0 licensed, so the registry costs nothing in licence fees. The Cloud VPS is the one bill, giving you a Zot Registry cloud install with no pull limits set by a host.

How do I back up Zot Registry?

xCloud does not back up or restore images for this app, so copy the zot_data volume off the server yourself. Because images are large, schedule copies and test a restore, or rebuild images from source.

How do I upgrade Zot Registry?

Zot stays on its pinned v2.1.22 image until a newer template version is adopted. Copy the volume first and check the release notes. No upgrade runs automatically, and redeploying keeps your stored images in place.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
