What is Bugsink?

Bugsink is a self-hosted error tracker that accepts events from the Sentry SDKs, so you point an application's SDK at your own server and see grouped errors with stack traces. Its README links to pages on error tracking, built to self-host, Sentry SDK compatibility and scalability. Self-hosted Bugsink is self-hosted error tracking you run yourself, as an alternative to a hosted service such as Sentry. It is not Sentry or a Sentry product. The core is distributed under the PolyForm Shield 1.0.0 licence, which is source-available rather than open source.

On xCloud this template deploys Bugsink 2.6.1 as the official image, pinned by digest, in a single container with SQLite. The bugsink_data volume holds teams, projects, users and events. HTTPS serves the dashboard and the ingestion API, the administrator is created at install, and there is no public sign-up. By default it sends a periodic usage report to bugsink.com, which PHONEHOME=false turns off.

Is Bugsink open source?

No. Bugsink's core is distributed under the PolyForm Shield 1.0.0 licence, which is source-available, and parts of the repository carry other licences, such as BSD-3-Clause for Sentry-derived code. Review the licence file at the pinned 2.6.1 tag before hosted or commercial use. This is not legal advice, and xCloud bills only for the Cloud VPS.

Can you run Bugsink with Docker?

Yes, and this Bugsink Docker hosting template does it for you: the official bugsink/bugsink image, pinned by digest and published for several architectures, runs as one container with SQLite on your own server, not in a Bugsink cloud account, with HTTPS in front of port 8000 for the dashboard and the ingestion API.

How much RAM does Bugsink need?

Bugsink's manifest floor is 1024 MB RAM, one CPU core and 4 GB disk, and idle use in QA was about 360 MiB. Event volume grows the SQLite file. Envelopes up to 100 MiB are accepted. This page sells the 6 GB tier, which leaves ample headroom for busy projects.

Is Bugsink compatible with the Sentry SDK?

Yes, for sending events: upstream describes Sentry-SDK compatibility, so you point an existing Sentry SDK's DSN at your Bugsink project. Bugsink is not Sentry and is not a Sentry product, so check that the SDK features you rely on, such as sourcemap uploads, are supported before you switch.

Does Bugsink send data to bugsink.com?

By default it sends a periodic usage report containing the version, your BASE_URL and counts to bugsink.com. Set PHONEHOME=false in the Environment editor and redeploy to stop it. Your error events themselves stay on your server in the bugsink_data volume, and SMTP is optional and unset.

Can anyone sign up to my Bugsink server?

No. The first administrator is created from the email and password you enter at install, there is no public sign-up, and anonymous visitors are redirected to sign in. Those credentials apply only when the first user is created; change the account inside Bugsink afterwards, not in the environment.

How do I send email alerts from Bugsink?

Set the EMAIL_HOST, EMAIL_PORT, EMAIL_HOST_USER, EMAIL_HOST_PASSWORD and DEFAULT_FROM_EMAIL values in the Environment editor, then redeploy. SMTP is optional and unset by default, so alerts, invitations and password resets by email do not work until you configure a mail server you control.

How do I back up Bugsink?

Include the bugsink_data volume in your backup: it holds the db.sqlite3 database with teams, projects, users and events, which is the whole persistent boundary. Runtime ingestion files and the background-task database live under /tmp and are not persisted. Copy the volume off the server and test a restore.

How do I upgrade Bugsink?

Upgrades are not automatic. The template pins Bugsink 2.6.1 by immutable digest, and existing installs stay on their image until you update them. When a newer template version is published, back up the bugsink_data volume, read what upstream changed, then adopt that version. Migrations run when the container starts.

Is Bugsink a Sentry alternative?

People use it that way: it takes Sentry SDK events and groups errors, on a server you run. It is a separate, smaller product with different licensing, so this page makes no parity claim, and vendor figures about cost or size are not repeated. Test your own SDKs and volume first.

How do I sign in the first time?

Use the administrator email and password shown in the credentials panel after install, which Bugsink creates on first start. The first boot runs migrations and may take a minute. Create a team and project, copy its DSN into your application's Sentry SDK setup, and trigger a test error.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
