What is GlitchTip?

Self-hosted GlitchTip is an open source, Sentry API compatible error tracking platform. Its README describes it as a partial fork and mostly re-implementation of Sentry's open source codebase from before it went proprietary, built on Python 3 and Django, storing error data in PostgreSQL with Valkey optional for performance. The template's description also lists performance monitoring, uptime monitoring, logs and alerting, and it stands in for a hosted Sentry account, under the MIT licence.

How much RAM does GlitchTip need?

The manifest asks for 2 CPU cores, 2 GiB of RAM and 10 GiB of disk. Upstream says GlitchTip can run in as little as 512 MB, but the template sets a higher floor. The 6 GB Cloud VPS here leaves real headroom.

Is GlitchTip free and open source?

Yes. GlitchTip is MIT licensed, per the LICENSE file at the v6.2.6 tag, so there is no licence fee and you may use it for anything; the only xCloud charge is the dedicated Cloud VPS, and your error data stays on your own volumes.

Can you run GlitchTip with Docker?

Outbound email is disabled until you set a complete EMAIL_URL and DEFAULT_FROM_EMAIL in the Environment editor. The default consolemail address writes mail to the container log instead. Do not add partial SMTP variables, and test one invitation after saving.

Can users create their own organisations?

The first organisation is allowed. After that, organisation creation stays at its upstream default of off and is restricted to superusers, so every later user is invited or created by an administrator, which keeps the instance closed.

Is Valkey part of the GlitchTip backup?

No. Valkey holds cache and queue state and is outside the application backup boundary. Back up the PostgreSQL volume, glitchtip_db, and the glitchtip_uploads volume, then verify projects, issues and users after any restore, because that is the only proof it worked.

What should I back up on a GlitchTip server?

The glitchtip_db PostgreSQL volume and glitchtip_uploads, with the generated secret key kept private. Valkey is excluded. After a restore, check representative projects, issues, users and uploaded artifacts, and copy the volumes off the server before you rely on them.

Backups in xCloud

How do I upgrade GlitchTip?

Nothing upgrades it for you: the install stays on pinned release 6.2.6 until you adopt a newer template version. Copy both volumes first, skim the upstream release notes, then confirm sign-in and a test event afterwards.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
