Cap hosting gives you an open source Loom alternative on your own server. Deploy Cap, a self-hosted screen recorder: xCloud runs the pinned Cap web image with a private MySQL 8.0 database and MinIO storage, generates the database and storage credentials, mounts persistent volumes and publishes the web app and the video storage address over HTTPS. Recordings upload straight from the browser or desktop app to storage you control.
Self-hosted Cap is a screen recording and video sharing platform. Its README calls it the open source alternative to Loom: you record your screen, camera and microphone, get an instant share link in Instant Mode or edit locally in Studio Mode, and collect comments, reactions, transcripts and viewer analytics on each video. Desktop apps run on macOS and Windows, and the source is AGPL-3.0 licensed.
On xCloud the template runs the ghcr.io/capsoftware/cap-web image, pinned by immutable digest and built 2026-09-07 because upstream publishes only floating latest tags, beside a private MySQL 8.0 database and MinIO S3-compatible storage. The cap_mysql_data and cap_storage_data volumes persist everything. Cap and the video storage each get an HTTPS domain, and there is no preset administrator: you sign in with an emailed code.
A Cap stack normally means a web app, a database, an S3-compatible store, two public domains and certificates before the first recording. This is the same result without assembling any of it.
Step 01
Create your xCloud account and pick Cap from the OneClick catalog. Choose a domain for Cap and one for Video storage — two sibling subdomains work well. There are no extra fields to fill in.
Step 02
One click. We bring up the official Cap web image, pinned by immutable digest, with a private MySQL 8.0 database and MinIO storage, mount the cap_mysql_data and cap_storage_data volumes, generate the database and storage credentials, and publish both domains over HTTPS.
Step 03
Open your HTTPS Cap URL, enter your email on /login and read the 6-digit code from the web container log (or your inbox once Resend is configured). Finish the short onboarding, then upload or record your first Cap. In the desktop app, set Cap Server URL to your Cap domain.
Cap runs in full here: browser and desktop recording, instant share links and a library of your videos, backed by a database and storage you own.
Record from the browser or the Cap desktop app, pointed at your own server with the Cap Server URL setting.
Each recording gets a share link on your domain, so async updates, demos and bug reports are one URL away.
Viewers can comment on a shared video. Upstream's transcripts and viewer analytics rely on optional services (a transcription API key, Tinybird) that this template does not configure.
Recordings upload from the browser or desktop app straight to your MinIO storage domain using short-lived signed links, with request bodies up to 500 MB allowed.
No preset administrator: enter your email and Cap sends a 6-digit code. Google sign-in is optional, and CAP_ALLOWED_SIGNUP_DOMAINS limits who can create accounts.
MySQL 8.0 has no published port, and the database and storage passwords are generated at install and shown in the protected credentials.
Managed hosting for Cap, so the parts that keep it online are not your problem.
Replace a meeting with a recording your team watches when it suits them, shared as a single link.
Walk a customer or colleague through a feature once and send the link instead of repeating the call.
Show the exact steps that trigger a problem so whoever fixes it can see it rather than read a description.
Let viewers comment on a shared video so feedback stays attached to the recording.
Keep screen recordings on your own S3-compatible storage instead of a vendor's cloud.

xCloud works really well, I am surprised by its performance being this the release version, I have tried many paid platforms such as runcloud, cloudpages or serveravatar, as well as free platforms such as CyberPanel, CloudPanel or Hestia Control Panel and direct competitors such as SpinupWP and FlyWP. Of all those that I have tried, the platform that works best for WordPress is SpinupWP and I believe that xCloud can reach and surpass that development, its roadmap is promising. Congratulations to the xCloud team, I hope they become the leading platform in the segment, it has all the potential to achieve it!
Brian GeovannyI've been with runcloud for the last 3 years. However, after trying xcloud for the last month, I'm switching over. They are on a roll with their setup.
Kevin PinedaI'm moving my servers to xCloud, a cloud control panel by M Asif Rahman and the WPDeveloper team. Their roadmap looks interesting and no, there are no team mates nor API limits with xCloud! #xCloud #wordpress #hosting
Leo KooHow Cloud Nine Web Elevated Client Experience While Streamlining Hosting Operations using xCloud
Ed EllinghamxCloud is like having an expert server team on call — without the big agency costs. It's given me back my time and given my clients peace of mind. Highly recommended for freelancers and small teams who want reliable performance and security.
Dumitru ButucelxCloud isn't just a solution. It's like one of that friend who got your back when you screw things up pretty bad.
Waqar AhmedTrust me when I say, once people explore the potential of xCloud they gonna switch from other panels, just keep delivering the best tech, lots of love for the team 😍😍
Rahul SinghSo far my experience has been smooth like silk. I didn't imagine that configuring and managing a VPS would be so easy. As of today, I have deployed 8 sites. The support is good, and they treat users with respect, even if they ask stupid questions (myself included). For the future, I hope for greater flexibility in scheduled backups and more comprehensive and consistent documentation. I'm sure that within a few months, xCloud will become the leader in its segment. This community is amazing, and the Staff here is super helpful.
Massimo VillaCame from cloudways then to runcloud then to xcloud. Looks like I'm staying here.
Gerson ElI've recently taken all of my Vultr-hosted sites and gotten rid of cPanel for them to substitute it with xCloud. I have to say, I'm really impressed with xCloud so far! The interface is definitely the standout feature for me.
Tony LewisI came from Cloudways and won't go back. Highly impressed with xCloud. Glad I gave them a chance.
Jared McDowellI like xCloud better than RunCloud, but one thing I'll point out is that some years ago RunCloud was hungry for business, the support was outstanding, and the community was active and helped each other. Maybe it was sold, there was a change in management, or they stopped being hungry, but the quality of the RunCloud offering declined and it hasn't been moving forward quickly. My point is that currently the xCloud team has the edge and it is theirs to keep or lose
David McCanHow Kevin Heinrichs Cut Hosting Costs by 84% While Running WooCommerce & Node.js Sites Efficiently
Kevin HeinrichsI had 150 sites on cloudways and am in the process of moving them to xcloud. Much faster and better priced.
Dan SpinozaDear xCloud Team, I have been using xCloud for some time now and am genuinely impressed with its capabilities and the flexibility it offers by allowing users to bring their own VPS for management. It's a fantastic service, and my experience so far has been very positive. Successful migrated 5 sites on a single server. Xcloud migration tool worked great. There were few hiccups with security plugin like MalCare but disabling the plugin prior to migration worked just fine.
Rahil MaknojiaCame from runcloud. Tried xcloud and never came back.

Jorge de los Reyes MartínezI use Server Avatar and xCloud and I'll sooner use xCloud than Server Avatar personally.

The template's baseline asks for 1 CPU core, 1024 MB of RAM and 20 GB of disk, and QA measured about 850 MB across all three containers after an upload and restart. The 6 GB tier sold here sits well above that baseline.
Yes. Cap's README describes it as the open source alternative to Loom, and the source is AGPL-3.0 licensed, so there is no licence fee. xCloud charges for the Cloud VPS it runs on. The AGPL has conditions if you offer the software to others over a network, so read it first.
Yes, and this is Cap Docker hosting without the compose file. Upstream self-hosts with Docker Compose; the template runs three pinned containers instead: the Cap web image, MySQL 8.0 and MinIO, with cap_mysql_data and cap_storage_data volumes, two HTTPS domains and generated database and storage credentials.
On the MinIO S3-compatible storage inside your install, on the cap_storage_data volume, served from the Video storage domain you map at install. Browsers and the desktop app upload straight to that address with short-lived signed links, so it must use HTTPS and be reachable from the internet.
Per its README, Cap keeps comments, reactions, transcripts and viewer analytics attached to each video. Comments are stored in the MySQL database on your server. Transcripts and viewer analytics rely on optional upstream services that the template does not configure, so check a feature works before relying on it.
Yes. Per its README, the Cap desktop apps run on macOS and Windows. Before you sign in, open Settings > General in the desktop app and set Cap Server URL to your own Cap domain, so recordings go to this install rather than to upstream's hosted service.
No. In this template videos are public by link: anyone with a share link can watch, and anyone who knows an exact file address in storage can read it, though the bucket cannot be listed. The image also bakes http://localhost:3000 into embed player and developer SDK links.
A backup needs both volumes together: cap_mysql_data for the database and cap_storage_data for the uploaded videos. Keep the stable values in the Environment editor with it, especially the database encryption key and the sign-in secret, which must not change, and test a restore.
Nothing upgrades it for you. Upstream publishes only floating latest tags, so the template pins the Cap web image by immutable digest, built 2026-09-07. Take a backup, look through upstream's release notes, and only then bump the image digest yourself or adopt a newer template version.
No, it is not Cap Cloud, upstream's own hosted option. It is your own Cap on a dedicated Cloud VPS that xCloud provisions, with the database, storage and both HTTPS domains belonging to your install, so recordings live on storage you control rather than a vendor's.
There is no preset administrator. Open /login, enter your email and Cap sends a 6-digit code; until Resend email is configured the code is printed in the web container log. Anyone who can receive a code can sign up, so set CAP_ALLOWED_SIGNUP_DOMAINS to limit it.
Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
Connect your first server in minutes. No plan you have to grow into.
