Dufs Hosting Live In 5 Minutes

Deploy Dufs hosting and run a self-hosted file server with a browser interface and WebDAV on your own domain. xCloud runs the pinned Dufs 0.46.0 container with one persistent data volume, generates the administrator password and publishes it over HTTPS with anonymous access switched off, so uploads, downloads, zip archives and searches all sit behind a login on a server that only you control.

What is Dufs?

Dufs is a utility file server written in Rust that supports static serving, uploading, searching, access control and WebDAV. Run as self-hosted Dufs, it works as a compact self-hosted file server in the role cloud storage like Dropbox plays for plain files: drag and drop uploads, folder download as a zip file, resumable transfers, and WebDAV for clients that mount a remote folder. It is dual-licensed under Apache-2.0 or MIT.

On xCloud the template deploys the official Dufs 0.46.0 image, pinned by digest, as a single scratch-based container serving one dufs_data volume at /data. A generated password protects the admin account, and upload, delete, search, archive and hash operations are enabled for that login only. Anonymous access, CORS and symlinks outside the data folder stay disabled.

From Sign-Up to a Live File Server In Just 3 Easy Steps

A file server with a login normally means a container, an auth rule, a volume, a domain and a certificate before the first upload. This is the same result without assembling any of it.

  1. Step 01

Create your xCloud account and pick Dufs from the OneClick catalog. Choose your domain and target server; the install form generates the administrator password for you.

  2. Step 02

    We Deploy It For You

One click. We start the Dufs 0.46.0 container pinned by digest, mount the dufs_data volume at /data, pass the generated password in as the admin login and publish the server over HTTPS on your domain.

  3. Step 03

    Upload Your First File

Sign in as admin with the password xCloud displays, then drag in a small file, download it again and compare. Save the password in a password manager before you close the page.

Everything Dufs Does, On Your Own Server

Dufs runs here with its browser interface and WebDAV endpoint, behind one generated login on your own domain.

  • Drag-And-Drop Uploads

Upload files and whole folders from the browser. Transfers are resumable, so an interrupted upload or download can continue, up to 100 MB per request here.

  • WebDAV Endpoint

The same address works as a WebDAV share, so clients that mount a remote folder can read, write, move and delete files without the browser.

  • Folder Download As Zip

Download a whole folder as a zip archive from the web interface. Large archives use extra transient memory and disk I/O on the server.

  • Search And Edit

Search across files and folders, create new files and edit text in the browser without leaving the listing.

  • SHA-256 File Hashes

Request a file's SHA-256 hash with a query string to confirm an upload or download arrived intact. The template enables this for the signed-in admin.

  • Access Control Behind A Login

Dufs applies access rules per path. This template ships one admin login with read and write access to the root and no anonymous access.

Everything You Need To Run Your File Server 24/7

Managed hosting for Dufs, so the parts that keep it online are not your problem.

  • Dufs 0.46.0 deployed instantly
  • Official image pinned by digest
  • Admin password generated for you
  • Free SSL certificate
  • Server backups and snapshots
  • Server security updates included
  • 30+ server locations
  • Unused balance refunded

What You Can Do With Dufs

  • A simple file server with authentication

Put a folder of documents, installers or media behind one admin login and share the address with colleagues you trust. They browse, search and download without installing a client or creating an account somewhere else.

  • Mount remote storage over WebDAV

Point a WebDAV-capable client at your domain and use the server like a network folder, moving and renaming files directly instead of going through the browser each time.

  • Hand over a folder as one zip

Gather finished work in a folder and download it as a single zip archive to send to a client, without compressing it on your own machine first.

  • Verify downloads with SHA-256 hashes

Publish installers or backups and check each file's SHA-256 hash after transfer, so a truncated or tampered download is caught before anyone runs it.

Dufs vs Alternatives

Dropbox
Dropbox is a hosted file-sync service. Dufs is a plain file server with no sync client: files sit in one volume on your server and are reached through the browser or WebDAV.
File Browser
File Browser (the filebrowser project on GitHub) has a README that describes a file managing interface within a specified directory, reached through a web interface. Dufs is a single-binary file server with drag-and-drop uploads, search and WebDAV; compare the two against how you manage files.
File Browser Quantum
Another self-hosted file manager with its own OneClick page. Dufs stays small: a single binary in a scratch-based image, one admin login in this template, and uploads, search and WebDAV on one address.
copyparty
Another self-hosted file server you can deploy on xCloud. Dufs concentrates on drag-and-drop uploads, search, folder downloads as zip, SHA-256 hashes and WebDAV, all behind one login here.
SFTPGo
A self-hosted file transfer server with its own OneClick page. Dufs serves files over HTTPS and WebDAV only, with resumable transfers and curl-friendly endpoints, and does not offer SFTP.

See why agencies, developers, startups, and growing businesses choose xCloud to power their projects.

xCloud works really well, I am surprised by its performance being this the release version, I have tried many paid platforms such as runcloud, cloudpages or serveravatar, as well as free platforms such as CyberPanel, CloudPanel or Hestia Control Panel and direct competitors such as SpinupWP and FlyWP. Of all those that I have tried, the platform that works best for WordPress is SpinupWP and I believe that xCloud can reach and surpass that development, its roadmap is promising. Congratulations to the xCloud team, I hope they become the leading platform in the segment, it has all the potential to achieve it!

I've been with runcloud for the last 3 years. However, after trying xcloud for the last month, I'm switching over. They are on a roll with their setup.

xCloud is like having an expert server team on call — without the big agency costs. It's given me back my time and given my clients peace of mind. Highly recommended for freelancers and small teams who want reliable performance and security.

xCloud isn't just a solution. It's like one of that friend who got your back when you screw things up pretty bad.

Trust me when I say, once people explore the potential of xCloud they gonna switch from other panels, just keep delivering the best tech, lots of love for the team 😍😍

So far my experience has been smooth like silk. I didn't imagine that configuring and managing a VPS would be so easy. As of today, I have deployed 8 sites. The support is good, and they treat users with respect, even if they ask stupid questions (myself included). For the future, I hope for greater flexibility in scheduled backups and more comprehensive and consistent documentation. I'm sure that within a few months, xCloud will become the leader in its segment. This community is amazing, and the Staff here is super helpful.

Came from cloudways then to runcloud then to xcloud. Looks like I'm staying here.

I've recently taken all of my Vultr-hosted sites and gotten rid of cPanel for them to substitute it with xCloud. I have to say, I'm really impressed with xCloud so far! The interface is definitely the standout feature for me.
Tony Lewis
I came from Cloudways and won't go back. Highly impressed with xCloud. Glad I gave them a chance.
Jared McDowell
I like xCloud better than RunCloud, but one thing I'll point out is that some years ago RunCloud was hungry for business, the support was outstanding, and the community was active and helped each other. Maybe it was sold, there was a change in management, or they stopped being hungry, but the quality of the RunCloud offering declined and it hasn't been moving forward quickly. My point is that currently the xCloud team has the edge and it is theirs to keep or lose

Dear xCloud Team, I have been using xCloud for some time now and am genuinely impressed with its capabilities and the flexibility it offers by allowing users to bring their own VPS for management. It's a fantastic service, and my experience so far has been very positive. Successful migrated 5 sites on a single server. Xcloud migration tool worked great. There were few hiccups with security plugin like MalCare but disabling the plugin prior to migration worked just fine.

Frequently Asked Questions

Feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns you may have.

Does Dufs support WebDAV?

Yes. Dufs speaks WebDAV on the same address as its web interface, so file operations such as upload, move and delete work from a WebDAV client as well as the browser. Anything sent through the public URL is still limited to 100 MB per request.

How do I password protect Dufs?

The template does it for you: xCloud generates a 24-character password for the admin account and passes it to Dufs as an access rule for the root path. Nobody can read or write until they sign in, and anonymous access stays disabled.

Can Dufs download folders as zip?

Yes. Dufs can download a folder as a zip archive, and this template enables archive creation for the signed-in admin. Big folders use extra memory and disk I/O while the archive builds, so keep an eye on a server running large downloads.

How do I access Dufs from a WebDAV client?

Add your HTTPS domain as a WebDAV location in the client, then enter the username admin and the generated password. The same login serves the browser. Because of the proxy's 100 MB request cap, split anything larger before uploading.

Can I self-host Dufs with Docker?

Yes, and this template is Dufs Docker hosting done for you: the official scratch-based image pinned by digest, serving one dufs_data volume from port 5000 bound to localhost, with xCloud's nginx adding HTTPS. There is no run command or compose file to maintain.

What does Dufs cloud hosting on xCloud include?

A dedicated Cloud VPS that we provision, patch and monitor, with Dufs running, HTTPS on your domain and an administrator password generated for you. Your files and the server's access rules stay yours, and you can run other apps alongside it.

How much RAM does Dufs need?

The template's catalog minimum is only 128 MB of RAM, 1 CPU core and 1 GB of disk. The 6 GB plan is far above that. What grows is disk, which depends on what you upload, and transient memory while building large zip archives.

How do I update Dufs?

Nothing updates itself: the template pins Dufs 0.46.0 by tag and digest, and catalog changes affect new installs only. Before changing the image, back up dufs_data, read the upstream release notes, then test login, WebDAV, archives and a restart on a disposable copy.

What should I back up for Dufs?

The dufs_data volume, which holds every served file and directory and is the whole data boundary. Stop writes or stop Dufs briefly before copying it, keep the backup encrypted and off the server, and test a restore on a disposable install.

Is Dufs free and open source?

Yes. Dufs is dual-licensed, so you may use it under Apache-2.0 or MIT as you prefer, and the code is on GitHub. Your xCloud payment pays for the Cloud VPS rather than the software, and the files in dufs_data remain yours.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
