What is Chibisafe?

Self-hosted Chibisafe is a file uploader service written in TypeScript that upstream says just works: it accepts files, photos and documents and gives back a shareable link. Its README lists a public, user-accounts or invite-only mode, chunked uploads for big files, albums and folders with direct links, snippets, file tagging, user management with quotas, an API key and an S3 storage option. It is a self-hosted alternative to services such as Imgur and Dropbox, and it is MIT licensed.

On xCloud the template runs Chibisafe v6.5.5 as separate frontend and backend containers behind a Caddy router, all pinned by digest, with SQLite for the database. Three named volumes hold the database, uploads and logs. A unique administrator password is generated before first boot, and S3 storage is not configured.

Is Chibisafe free and open source?

Yes. Chibisafe is MIT licensed, so the uploader has no licence charge. xCloud bills for the dedicated Cloud VPS. Upstream asks forks to keep a GitHub logo or a link to its repo, and this template adds no paid Chibisafe tier.

Can I run Chibisafe with Docker?

Yes, and this template does it for you: the chibisafe frontend and backend v6.5.5 images plus Caddy 2.10, pinned by digest, with three volumes behind HTTPS. It is Chibisafe Docker hosting without writing the compose file or the Caddy routes.

How much RAM does a Chibisafe cloud server need?

Plan on 2048 MB of RAM, 1 CPU core and 10 GB of disk across three containers, with the 6 GB Cloud VPS sold here for a Chibisafe cloud install. Disk grows with the files users upload, so size storage for your library.

Can Chibisafe upload large files?

Yes. Upstream says big files are automatically chunked to minimise network failure. On xCloud, requests through the public site are limited to 100 MB each, so the chunks keep individual requests below that limit while the whole file can be larger.

Can anyone upload to my Chibisafe?

That depends on settings you choose. Upstream offers public, user-accounts and invite-only modes, so review the dashboard's public-upload and registration settings before sharing the URL. The template creates only the admin, and you decide how open the instance is.

Does Chibisafe support S3 storage?

Upstream lists S3 storage support, but this template does not configure it: uploads go to the chibisafe_uploads volume on the server. If you want S3, set it up inside Chibisafe yourself and test it, keeping in mind that files then live outside the volume.

How do I sign in to a new Chibisafe?

Open your HTTPS URL and sign in as admin with the generated password in your credentials. It only initialises the account, so change the password inside Chibisafe; editing ADMIN_PASSWORD in the environment later does not rotate an existing database account.

How do I back up Chibisafe?

Take one backup of chibisafe_database, chibisafe_uploads and chibisafe_logs together; the database holds the SQLite data and configuration, uploads hold the files. Restore all three under the same configuration. Never delete the volumes of a live site.

How do I update Chibisafe?

Chibisafe v6.5.5 and Caddy are pinned by digest, so nothing upgrades on its own. When xCloud publishes a newer Chibisafe template version, back up all three volumes, read upstream's release notes, adopt that template version, then test an upload.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
