What is FileBrowser Quantum?

FileBrowser Quantum is a self-hosted web file manager. It gives you indexed search, file previews, sharing links, multiple users with per-folder access rules and WebDAV access, and it is the actively maintained fork of the original File Browser project, which is archived. Run on your own server it is a self-hosted FileBrowser Quantum, an alternative to a hosted file service such as Dropbox or Google Drive, with the code under the Apache-2.0 licence and the files on a disk you control.

The filebrowser_files volume holds every file you serve and filebrowser_data holds users, share links and settings. Upstream tags its 2.x line beta, so this is a beta release, not a stable one.

How much RAM does FileBrowser Quantum need?

Yes. FileBrowser Quantum is open source under the Apache-2.0 licence, so the software has no licence fee and no per-user charge. Billing covers the dedicated Cloud VPS that stores and serves your files, whatever number of users you add. That makes it a FileBrowser Quantum cloud of your own.

How do I back up FileBrowser Quantum?

Back up both volumes together: filebrowser_files holds every served file and filebrowser_data holds users, share links, access rules and settings. Stop the app first so the SQLite database is consistent. Nothing schedules the copy, so run it yourself.

How do I upgrade FileBrowser Quantum?

The install stays on its pinned 2.0.8-beta image until you adopt a newer template version. Back up both volumes first and read the release notes, since 2.x betas can change configuration. Check sign-in, uploads and shares afterwards.

What happens if I change JWT_SECRET?

Everyone is signed out, and API tokens, share links and WebDAV logins stop working, because the secret signs them. Leave JWT_SECRET unchanged unless you intend to invalidate every session. It was generated for you at install.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
