Deploy DumbWhoIs hosting and run a self-hosted WHOIS lookup tool where you type a domain, IP address or ASN and get ownership, geolocation and network details back in a clean page. xCloud starts the pinned image behind a Caddy gateway that asks for a username and password, because DumbWhoIs has no login of its own, and publishes it over HTTPS. It keeps no data and needs outbound internet access.
DumbWhoIs is a simple web application for looking up WHOIS, IP and ASN information using free APIs, released under GPL-3.0. Upstream lists automatic detection of the query type, direct WHOIS lookup for all TLDs, IP geolocation with fallback services, ASN details, DNS resolution for a domain's addresses, IPv6 support, dark mode, URL parameters for direct lookups and a PWA. Self-hosted DumbWhoIs is the option for people who would otherwise use public lookup websites such as whois.com.
On xCloud the template runs dumbwareio/dumbwhois build-25, pinned by digest, behind a Caddy sidecar that enforces HTTP Basic authentication on the whole site, including the lookup API. DumbWhoIs itself has no authentication. There is no database and no volume. WHOIS queries use outbound TCP port 43, and IP and ASN lookups call third-party services, so the server needs internet access.
Self-hosting a lookup tool normally means wiring up a container, an auth gateway and a TLS certificate before you can safely expose it. This is the same result without assembling any of it.
Step 01
Create your xCloud account and pick DumbWhoIs from the OneClick catalog. Set an Admin Username, or keep the default admin — xCloud generates a 32-character password.
Step 02
One click. We bring up the pinned DumbWhoIs build-25 image behind a Caddy 2.10.2 Basic Auth gateway, and publish it over HTTPS on your domain.
Step 03
Open the HTTPS URL, enter the Basic Auth username and password from your installation credentials, and run your first domain, IP or ASN lookup.
DumbWhoIs runs in full here — the open-source tool is complete, and it sits behind a login gateway you control instead of a public lookup website.
Direct WHOIS queries for any domain, with support for all TLDs including ccTLDs, from one page.
Check IP geolocation and ownership, with automatic fallback between lookup providers if one is unavailable.
Look up ASN details for network and hosting research without leaving the tool.
A generated username and password gate every page and API route, so strangers can't run lookups from your server's IP.
A clean, responsive interface that works equally well on desktop and mobile.
Nothing is stored, so there's no database to manage and an xCloud Restart loses no data.
Managed hosting for DumbWhoIs, so the parts that keep it online are not your problem.
Type a domain and read its WHOIS record, without visiting a public lookup site or handing it your search history.
Look up an address from a log file to see geolocation and the network that owns it, with several fallback services behind the scenes.
Enter an AS number to see who operates it, using RIPEstat and PeeringDB data.
Use the URL query parameters and permalink anchors upstream lists to send a colleague a link to a specific result.

xCloud works really well, I am surprised by its performance being this the release version, I have tried many paid platforms such as runcloud, cloudpages or serveravatar, as well as free platforms such as CyberPanel, CloudPanel or Hestia Control Panel and direct competitors such as SpinupWP and FlyWP. Of all those that I have tried, the platform that works best for WordPress is SpinupWP and I believe that xCloud can reach and surpass that development, its roadmap is promising. Congratulations to the xCloud team, I hope they become the leading platform in the segment, it has all the potential to achieve it!
Brian GeovannyI've been with runcloud for the last 3 years. However, after trying xcloud for the last month, I'm switching over. They are on a roll with their setup.
Kevin PinedaI'm moving my servers to xCloud, a cloud control panel by M Asif Rahman and the WPDeveloper team. Their roadmap looks interesting and no, there are no team mates nor API limits with xCloud! #xCloud #wordpress #hosting
Leo KooHow Cloud Nine Web Elevated Client Experience While Streamlining Hosting Operations using xCloud
Ed EllinghamxCloud is like having an expert server team on call — without the big agency costs. It's given me back my time and given my clients peace of mind. Highly recommended for freelancers and small teams who want reliable performance and security.
Dumitru ButucelxCloud isn't just a solution. It's like one of that friend who got your back when you screw things up pretty bad.
Waqar AhmedTrust me when I say, once people explore the potential of xCloud they gonna switch from other panels, just keep delivering the best tech, lots of love for the team 😍😍
Rahul SinghSo far my experience has been smooth like silk. I didn't imagine that configuring and managing a VPS would be so easy. As of today, I have deployed 8 sites. The support is good, and they treat users with respect, even if they ask stupid questions (myself included). For the future, I hope for greater flexibility in scheduled backups and more comprehensive and consistent documentation. I'm sure that within a few months, xCloud will become the leader in its segment. This community is amazing, and the Staff here is super helpful.
Massimo VillaCame from cloudways then to runcloud then to xcloud. Looks like I'm staying here.
Gerson ElI've recently taken all of my Vultr-hosted sites and gotten rid of cPanel for them to substitute it with xCloud. I have to say, I'm really impressed with xCloud so far! The interface is definitely the standout feature for me.
Tony LewisI came from Cloudways and won't go back. Highly impressed with xCloud. Glad I gave them a chance.
Jared McDowellI like xCloud better than RunCloud, but one thing I'll point out is that some years ago RunCloud was hungry for business, the support was outstanding, and the community was active and helped each other. Maybe it was sold, there was a change in management, or they stopped being hungry, but the quality of the RunCloud offering declined and it hasn't been moving forward quickly. My point is that currently the xCloud team has the edge and it is theirs to keep or lose
David McCanHow Kevin Heinrichs Cut Hosting Costs by 84% While Running WooCommerce & Node.js Sites Efficiently
Kevin HeinrichsI had 150 sites on cloudways and am in the process of moving them to xcloud. Much faster and better priced.
Dan SpinozaDear xCloud Team, I have been using xCloud for some time now and am genuinely impressed with its capabilities and the flexibility it offers by allowing users to bring their own VPS for management. It's a fantastic service, and my experience so far has been very positive. Successful migrated 5 sites on a single server. Xcloud migration tool worked great. There were few hiccups with security plugin like MalCare but disabling the plugin prior to migration worked just fine.
Rahil MaknojiaCame from runcloud. Tried xcloud and never came back.

DumbWhoIs is used to look things up. You enter a domain name, an IP address or an ASN, and it works out which you gave and returns WHOIS data, geolocation and network ownership details, with the source of each result noted. It suits admins who check domains and addresses often.
Yes. DumbWhoIs is open source under GPL-3.0, so the tool has no licence fee. The xCloud charge is the Cloud VPS plus the deployment. The third-party lookup services it calls are free APIs with their own limits and terms.
Yes. For DumbWhoIs Docker hosting the template runs the upstream dumbwareio/dumbwhois build-25 image, pinned by digest, behind a Caddy Basic Auth gateway with HTTPS on your domain. It declares no volume and needs no setup beyond choosing the gateway username, because the generated password appears on your credentials card.
DumbWhoIs's manifest floor is 256 MB of RAM, one core and 1 GB of disk, since it is a single Node.js process with no database. Upstream publishes no sizing figures, so these are conservative values. The 6 GB plan sold here is many times what the tool needs.
No. Upstream lists no authentication required. The template therefore adds a Caddy gateway with HTTP Basic authentication in front of the whole site, including the lookup API, so strangers cannot run lookups from your server's address. The gateway is xCloud's addition rather than an upstream feature.
Outbound internet access. WHOIS queries use TCP port 43 to registry servers, IP lookups call third-party APIs, one of them over plain HTTP, and ASN lookups use RIPEstat and PeeringDB. The app does not work offline or on a host that restricts outbound traffic, so check egress rules before relying on it.
Per the template README, WHOIS queries go straight to registry servers, IP lookups use ipapi.co, ipwho.is and ip-api.com with fallbacks, and ASN lookups use RIPEstat and PeeringDB. Your lookups therefore leave your server for those third parties, so avoid it for queries you consider sensitive.
No. The template is stateless and declares no volume, so there is no application data to restore. Lookups are not saved, and the gateway credentials live in the Environment editor. Server backups from xCloud still cover the machine itself if you run other apps beside it.
Upstream publishes only build-number tags, and the template pins build-25 by digest, so a catalog change leaves a running install alone. To move on, review the newer build's changes, then select a later template version that pins its digest. Existing installs stay on their image until then.
Edit ADMIN_USERNAME or ADMIN_PASSWORD in the Environment editor and choose Save & Redeploy; they are applied on every start. You can also set SITE_TITLE for the page heading. If you set ALLOWED_ORIGINS, include your exact public https origin or requests get a 403.
Yes. DumbWhoIs cloud use puts the tool and its Caddy gateway on a dedicated Cloud VPS, with your domain and certificate attached; it is usually ready within a minute. Another provider's server can be enrolled as self-managed, provided it allows outbound connections for lookups.
Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
Your lookups, your gateway, your server — live in minutes.
