Gokapi Hosting Live In 5 Minutes

Deploy Gokapi hosting and run a self-hosted file sharing service whose links expire on your own domain. xCloud runs the pinned Gokapi 2.2.4 image with embedded SQLite and two persistent volumes, publishes it over HTTPS and hands you the setup wizard, so you create the administrator account yourself and then send files that disappear after a download count or a date you choose.

What is Gokapi?

Gokapi is a modern, self-hosted alternative to Firefox Send, built with Go. Run as self-hosted Gokapi, it puts you in control of one job: expiring file shares that are removed automatically after a set number of downloads or days. It adds user roles where only registered users can upload, file requests, file deduplication, optional end-to-end encryption and optional S3-compatible storage. It is licensed under AGPL-3.0.

Here, the xCloud template runs Gokapi 2.2.4 as the official image, pinned by digest, in one container with SQLite and local file storage. The gokapi_data volume holds the database and uploads, and gokapi_config holds config.json. You finish a first-run setup wizard at /setup, where you create the administrator credentials yourself. Redis, S3, OIDC and custom assets are not provisioned.

From Sign-Up to a Live Share Server In Just 3 Easy Steps

An expiring-link file host normally means a container, a database, storage volumes, a domain and a certificate before the first link is shared. This is the same result without assembling any of it.

  1. Step 01

Create your xCloud account and pick Gokapi from the OneClick catalog. Choose your domain and target server; the install form has no application-specific fields.

  2. Step 02

    We Deploy It For You

One click. We start the Gokapi 2.2.4 image pinned by digest with embedded SQLite, mount gokapi_data and gokapi_config, and publish it over HTTPS on your domain, with the first-run setup URL shown in the panel.

  3. Step 03

    Finish The Setup Wizard

Open /setup, keep SQLite, leave Gokapi's own SSL disabled, set the Public Facing URL to your domain and create the administrator login. Then sign in at /admin and upload a test file with a short expiry.

Everything Gokapi Does, On Your Own Server

Gokapi runs here with its expiry rules, roles and optional encryption, with uploads stored on your own server.

  • Shares That Expire

A share is removed automatically after a set number of downloads or days, so a link sent today does not stay reachable forever.

  • Roles And Upload Control

User management with roles means only registered users can upload. Visitors open links but cannot put files on your server.

  • File Requests

Create a shareable URL that lets an outside party upload files to you, visible only to the person who created the request.

  • Optional Encryption

Gokapi has built-in encryption, including end-to-end encrypted uploads. It is a choice you make in the wizard, not applied to every file.

  • Deduplication And Storage

Identical files use no extra space. Local storage is the default here, and S3-compatible storage is optional if you set it up yourself.

  • REST API And Custom UI

Automate shares through the REST API and adjust the look with custom CSS and JavaScript, or sign in with OpenID Connect if you add a provider.

Everything You Need To Run Your File Sharing 24/7

Managed hosting for Gokapi, so the parts that keep it online are not your problem.

  • Gokapi 2.2.4 deployed instantly
  • Official image pinned by digest
  • Setup wizard creates your admin
  • Free SSL certificate
  • Server backups and snapshots
  • Server security updates included
  • 30+ server locations
  • Unused balance refunded

What You Can Do With Gokapi

  • Send a large file that deletes itself

Upload a finished video or design file, set a download limit and an expiry, and send the link. Once the recipient has it, the file is removed from your server without a cleanup job.

  • Collect documents from outside the team

Create a file request so a client can upload tax papers or source files straight to you, with the upload visible only to whoever created the request, not to other users.

  • Run expiring file share links for a team

Give colleagues accounts with upload rights, so staff can share files with customers while visitors cannot upload anything themselves. Everything lands on one server you control.

  • Share sensitive files with end-to-end encryption

Turn on Gokapi's end-to-end encrypted uploads for files that must not be readable on the server, and share the link only with the people who should open it.

Gokapi vs Alternatives

WeTransfer
Gokapi sends files by links that expire after a set time or number of downloads, with the uploads stored on a server you run and roles controlling who can upload.
Dropbox
Gokapi has no sync client; it is for expiring shares of individual files, kept in a data volume you own, with optional S3-compatible storage.
Pingvin Share X
Gokapi offers user roles, file requests, file deduplication and a REST API alongside expiring links. Pingvin Share X is another self-hosted option to compare against your needs.
PsiTransfer
Gokapi uses accounts with roles, optional OpenID Connect sign-in and expiring links. PsiTransfer also has an xCloud page, so you can compare both before choosing.

See why agencies, developers, startups, and growing businesses choose xCloud to power their projects.

xCloud works really well, I am surprised by its performance being this the release version, I have tried many paid platforms such as runcloud, cloudpages or serveravatar, as well as free platforms such as CyberPanel, CloudPanel or Hestia Control Panel and direct competitors such as SpinupWP and FlyWP. Of all those that I have tried, the platform that works best for WordPress is SpinupWP and I believe that xCloud can reach and surpass that development, its roadmap is promising. Congratulations to the xCloud team, I hope they become the leading platform in the segment, it has all the potential to achieve it!

I've been with runcloud for the last 3 years. However, after trying xcloud for the last month, I'm switching over. They are on a roll with their setup.

I'm moving my servers to xCloud, a cloud control panel by M Asif Rahman and the WPDeveloper team. Their roadmap looks interesting and no, there are no team mates nor API limits with xCloud! #xCloud #wordpress #hosting

xCloud is like having an expert server team on call — without the big agency costs. It's given me back my time and given my clients peace of mind. Highly recommended for freelancers and small teams who want reliable performance and security.

xCloud isn't just a solution. It's like one of that friend who got your back when you screw things up pretty bad.

Trust me when I say, once people explore the potential of xCloud they gonna switch from other panels, just keep delivering the best tech, lots of love for the team 😍😍

So far my experience has been smooth like silk. I didn't imagine that configuring and managing a VPS would be so easy. As of today, I have deployed 8 sites. The support is good, and they treat users with respect, even if they ask stupid questions (myself included). For the future, I hope for greater flexibility in scheduled backups and more comprehensive and consistent documentation. I'm sure that within a few months, xCloud will become the leader in its segment. This community is amazing, and the Staff here is super helpful.

Came from cloudways then to runcloud then to xcloud. Looks like I'm staying here.

I've recently taken all of my Vultr-hosted sites and gotten rid of cPanel for them to substitute it with xCloud. I have to say, I'm really impressed with xCloud so far! The interface is definitely the standout feature for me.
Tony Lewis
I came from Cloudways and won't go back. Highly impressed with xCloud. Glad I gave them a chance.
Jared McDowell
I like xCloud better than RunCloud, but one thing I'll point out is that some years ago RunCloud was hungry for business, the support was outstanding, and the community was active and helped each other. Maybe it was sold, there was a change in management, or they stopped being hungry, but the quality of the RunCloud offering declined and it hasn't been moving forward quickly. My point is that currently the xCloud team has the edge and it is theirs to keep or lose

Dear xCloud Team, I have been using xCloud for some time now and am genuinely impressed with its capabilities and the flexibility it offers by allowing users to bring their own VPS for management. It's a fantastic service, and my experience so far has been very positive. Successful migrated 5 sites on a single server. Xcloud migration tool worked great. There were few hiccups with security plugin like MalCare but disabling the plugin prior to migration worked just fine.

Frequently Asked Questions

Feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns you may have.

Can Gokapi links expire after a number of downloads?

Yes. A share is removed automatically after a set number of downloads or days, whichever limit you choose when uploading. To check it, upload a small test file with a short expiry and a download limit above zero, download it once, and watch the count update in the admin interface.

Does Gokapi support S3 storage?

Yes, as an option. Upstream supports AWS S3 and S3-compatible storage such as Backblaze B2, but this template uses local storage and provisions no S3 service. Add it through Gokapi's own setup or reconfiguration flow, with credentials you manage yourself.

Does Gokapi encrypt files?

Gokapi has built-in encryption, including end-to-end encrypted uploads, but it is optional rather than applied to every file. You choose the encryption options in the setup wizard, so decide before you rely on it for anything sensitive.

How do I finish Gokapi setup?

Open /setup on your domain, keep SQLite, leave Gokapi's own SSL disabled because xCloud provides HTTPS, set the Public Facing URL to your domain with a trailing slash, and create the administrator login. xCloud does not generate or keep that password, so save it.

Can I self-host Gokapi with Docker?

Yes, and this template is Gokapi Docker hosting done for you: the official image pinned by digest, one container on port 53842 bound to localhost, two named volumes and HTTPS from xCloud's nginx. There is no docker run command to maintain.

What does Gokapi cloud hosting on xCloud include?

A dedicated Cloud VPS that we provision, patch and monitor, with Gokapi running, HTTPS on your domain and the setup wizard waiting for you. The uploads, the database and the administrator account belong to you, and other apps can share the server.

How much RAM does Gokapi need?

Gokapi's catalog minimum is 512 MB of RAM, 1 CPU core and 5 GB of disk, so the 6 GB plan is comfortable. Disk is what grows, since the uploaded files in gokapi_data determine the practical requirement beyond the 5 GB minimum.

How do I update Gokapi?

Nothing updates itself: the template pins Gokapi v2.2.4 by tag and digest, and catalog re-syncs affect new installs only. Before upgrading, back up both volumes, read every intervening release note and test the upgrade and a rollback on a disposable copy.

What should I back up for Gokapi?

Treat both volumes as one backup set: gokapi_data holds the SQLite database, uploads and temporary data, while gokapi_config holds config.json with storage endpoints and salts. Stop Gokapi or snapshot SQLite first, restore both from the same moment and test it.

Is Gokapi free and open source?

Yes. Gokapi is released under the GNU Affero General Public License v3.0, with its code on GitHub. xCloud bills for the Cloud VPS, not for Gokapi, and the accounts, shares and uploaded files on it are yours to keep.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
