What is Hasura GraphQL Engine?

Hasura is a free, open-source engine that generates an instant GraphQL API over a PostgreSQL database, with a browser console for tables, relationships, permissions and queries. This template deploys version 2.50.1.

Is Hasura free?

The engine deployed here is free and open source under the Apache License 2.0. What you pay xCloud for is the dedicated server it runs on and the management around it, not the software itself. Hasura Cloud, DDN, Pro and enterprise features are separate products and are not included.

Do I need to bring my own PostgreSQL database?

No. This template ships its own private PostgreSQL 17.6 database and wires it in automatically as both Hasura's metadata store and its PG_DATABASE_URL data source. Your one step inside the Console is tracking that pre-wired connection — there is nothing external to connect.

Can I self-host Hasura?

Yes — that is exactly what this template deploys. It brings up the pinned Hasura 2.50.1 image alongside a private PostgreSQL 17.6 database, both pinned by immutable digest, mounts the persistent hasura_db volume and publishes the Console over HTTPS on your domain in minutes instead of assembled by hand.

How do I sign in?

With a generated admin secret, not a username and password. xCloud creates a 32-character HASURA_GRAPHQL_ADMIN_SECRET during installation and shows it once in your xCloud credential panel. Enter it on the Console's login screen.

What does xCloud configure automatically?

The generated admin secret, the private PostgreSQL database and its connection strings, the persistent hasura_db volume, the domain and the HTTPS route. Only the Hasura Console and GraphQL API are published through xCloud-managed ingress — PostgreSQL stays private to the internal network.

What should I back up?

The hasura_db volume, as one unit. It holds the PostgreSQL data directory, which contains both Hasura's own metadata and any application tables you track through it. A transactionally consistent pg_dump is the safest way to take a portable copy.

Can I change the admin secret?

Yes. Keep it stable to preserve Console and API access, and when you do want to rotate it, update HASURA_GRAPHQL_ADMIN_SECRET in the Environment editor and restart the application; existing tracked data is unaffected.

Does xCloud automatically back up or update Hasura?

No. The template pins Hasura 2.50.1 and PostgreSQL 17.6 by immutable digest; a catalog re-sync affects new installations only. Review Hasura and PostgreSQL release notes and take a verified pg_dump before changing either pinned image.

What are the server requirements?

The template manifest asks for 1.5 GB of RAM, two CPU cores and 5 GB of disk as a floor, to run Hasura alongside its PostgreSQL sidecar. This page sells the 6 GB tier, well above that floor, leaving room for your own tables and query load.

What survives a restart?

Everything on hasura_db, because it is a persistent named volume. A restart does not touch an existing tracked table, its data, relationships, permissions or the Hasura metadata describing them.

Is xCloud officially partnered with Hasura?

No. No official partnership or endorsement between xCloud and the Hasura project has been verified. This is a deployment and server-management option for the open-source Hasura GraphQL Engine.

Can I run other apps on the same server?

Yes. It is a dedicated Cloud VPS, not a locked appliance, so you can deploy other OneClick apps or your own sites beside it as long as the resources are there.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
