What is Hoop?

Hoop is an open-source access gateway for databases, servers and internal tools. Users reach resources through Hoop with role-based access, approvals, session recording and data masking, while agents deployed next to the resources do the actual connecting.

It is MIT licensed. The gateway serves its REST API and web UI on one port and a gRPC endpoint for agents on another; this template runs both from a single container with Hoop's embedded PostgreSQL database.

How do I sign in?

With the administrator email you entered at install and the generated password shown in the credentials panel. The account is created at first boot and later self-registration is refused. Change the password after signing in.

Does it include agents?

No. Agents run next to your databases and servers and connect back to Hoop over gRPC, using the host and port shown in the credentials panel.

Which ports are published, and who opens them?

The web UI and API are served over xCloud-managed HTTPS. The agent gRPC port and the optional Postgres, SSH and RDP proxy ports are published TCP ports. xCloud does not open them in your firewall: open only the ones you use, for trusted addresses. The gRPC port is plain TCP without TLS.

What runs alongside Hoop?

Nothing else. It is a single container using Hoop's embedded PostgreSQL, with no separate database service to run or secure.

Is the web UI public by default?

Yes — anyone with the URL can reach the login page. If you want an extra gate before it, configure Basic Auth at your reverse proxy or access layer; this template does not enable it.

Can the Postgres web terminal run queries?

Web terminal and exec on Postgres connections need an agent image that includes psql; the stock image does not. The Postgres proxy and native clients work without it.

Is it open source?

Yes, Hoop is MIT licensed. Some enterprise features, such as certain data-masking providers, are unavailable in the open edition.

What should I back up?

The hoop_data volume (users, connections and keys) and the hoop_sessions volume (session recordings), together, with the stack stopped. Hoop stores connection credentials and recordings, so treat the admin account as highly privileged.

Backups in xCloud

What survives a restart?

The database, users, connections and session recordings survive an xCloud Restart, because they live on the persistent hoop_data and hoop_sessions volumes.

Does xCloud automatically back up or update Hoop?

No. The template pins Hoop 1.236.1 by immutable digest; new installations use the pinned release, existing sites are not automatically upgraded. Back up first, read the upstream release notes, then bump the readable tag and digest together on your own schedule. Server-level backups and snapshots are available on every Cloud VPS.

What are the server requirements, and why does this page sell 6 GB?

The template's baseline asks for 1 CPU core, 1024 MB of RAM and 4 GB of disk; measured idle use in QA was about 500 MiB. This page sells the 6 GB tier as the entry rung, with real headroom above that baseline.

Is xCloud officially partnered with Hoop?

No. No official partnership or endorsement between xCloud and the Hoop project has been verified. This is a deployment and server-management option for the open-source Hoop project.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
