What is Mathesar?

Is Mathesar free?
Yes — it is free and open source under the GNU General Public License v3 (GPL-3.0). What you pay xCloud for is the dedicated server it runs on and the management around it, not the application itself.
Can I self-host Mathesar?
Yes — that is exactly what this template deploys. It brings up the official Mathesar image alongside a private PostgreSQL database and Mathesar's own Caddy static/media gateway, all three pinned by immutable digest, mounts its four persistent volumes and publishes it over HTTPS on your domain in minutes instead of assembled by hand.
How do I sign in and create an administrator?
There is no default administrator account and no generated password for Mathesar itself. Open your HTTPS URL after installation and complete Mathesar's own supported first-user setup flow to create the administrator.
What does xCloud configure automatically?
A private PostgreSQL database with a generated name, user and password, a Django secret key, all four persistent volumes, the domain and the HTTPS route. Only Mathesar's web application and its static/media gateway are published through xCloud-managed HTTPS — PostgreSQL stays private to the internal network.
How do I rotate the PostgreSQL password?
Not by editing xCloud's environment value alone. Change the role password inside PostgreSQL first, then update the matching POSTGRES_PASSWORD value in xCloud's Environment editor to the same password, then redeploy. Changing the xCloud value first, without changing PostgreSQL, breaks the connection.
How do I import data?
From inside Mathesar, import a CSV or TSV file into a new or existing table. Imported files are stored on the mathesar_media volume alongside the database rows they created.
What should I back up?
mathesar_postgres_data, mathesar_media, mathesar_static and mathesar_secrets together, from the same maintenance window. A database-only snapshot is not a complete Mathesar backup because imported files, collected assets and Mathesar's own application secret state live outside PostgreSQL.
Does xCloud automatically back up or update Mathesar?
No. The template pins Mathesar, its Caddy gateway and PostgreSQL by immutable digest; a catalog re-sync affects new installations only. Review Mathesar release notes, take a coordinated backup of all four volumes, then verify administrator sign-in, representative table data and a restart before changing any pinned image.
What are the server requirements?
The template manifest asks for 2 GB of RAM, two CPU cores and 10 GB of disk as a floor — running Mathesar alongside PostgreSQL and the static/media gateway. This page sells the 6 GB tier, comfortable headroom above that floor, with extra disk useful as your PostgreSQL data and imported files grow.
What survives a restart?
Everything on mathesar_postgres_data, mathesar_media, mathesar_static and mathesar_secrets, because all four are persistent named volumes. Restarting the containers does not touch your databases, imported files or application secret state.
Is SSO or the Django admin enabled?
No. This template ships with the Django admin surface disabled and SSO/OIDC left unconfigured. Those are Mathesar's own optional features, not something this template turns on for you.
Is xCloud officially partnered with Mathesar?
No. No official partnership or endorsement between xCloud and the Mathesar project has been verified. This is a deployment and server-management option for the open-source Mathesar project.
Can I cancel anytime?
Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
