What is wger?

wger is a free workout and fitness manager. Upstream lists custom workout routines with progression rules, tracking of diet plans, body weight and measurements, nutrition logging with Open Food Facts, a progress gallery, an exercise wiki, mobile apps, a REST API and multi-user support. A self-hosted wger is an alternative to a hosted fitness app such as MyFitnessPal, licensed AGPL-3.0 or later, with PowerSync bundled for mobile offline sync.

What is the wger admin login?

The username admin and the generated initial password in the credentials panel. The template replaces only the untouched upstream administrator password before HTTP starts. Change it in wger, then register separate accounts for daily use, since the panel keeps showing the initial one.

Does wger work offline on mobile?

Yes, through PowerSync, which the template bundles for mobile offline synchronisation. PowerSync publishes no host port and is reached through the internal gateway. The mobile app itself comes from upstream's listed app stores, not from this template.

Does wger have a mobile app?

Upstream lists apps for Android, iOS, F-Droid and Flathub. They connect to a wger server over HTTPS, so point the app at your domain and sign in with a regular account rather than the administrator.

Can you self-host wger with Docker?

Yes. Upstream provides a Docker compose setup, and this template is wger Docker hosting with the supported topology built in: the 2.7 image, PostgreSQL, Redis, PowerSync and nginx pinned by digest, six volumes and HTTPS.

How much RAM does wger need?

The manifest asks for 2048 MB of RAM, 2 CPU cores and 10 GB of disk, since the web app, Celery, PostgreSQL, Redis and PowerSync all run together. The 6 GB plan covers that and leaves headroom.

Is wger open source?

Yes, under AGPL-3.0 or later. The template also bundles PowerSync Service 1.25.0 under FSL-1.1-ALv2 for mobile offline sync, and both licences apply. You pay for the Cloud VPS, which gives you a wger cloud of your own.

Is my fitness data private on wger?

It stays on your server, with PostgreSQL, Redis and PowerSync not reachable from the internet. Fitness, nutrition and body-measurement records are still sensitive, so restrict host and account access, encrypt your backups, and register separate accounts for daily use.

Can I reset the wger administrator password from the environment?

No. WGER_ADMIN_PASSWORD only replaces the untouched upstream fixture before HTTP starts, so editing it does not reset an initialised account. Change the password in wger, or run changepassword admin interactively inside the web container as the template notes describe.

How do I back up wger?

Back up all six volumes as one boundary: wger_postgres_data, wger_redis_data, wger_media, wger_static, wger_celery_beat and wger_runtime, which holds the JWT keys. Prefer a PostgreSQL logical backup, and test restoring into an isolated install before you rely on it, since Redis holds queued tasks too.

How do I upgrade wger?

The images stay on their pinned versions until you adopt a newer template version. Read every upstream migration note and take a coordinated backup first. Nothing upgrades automatically, and keep the JWT keypair stable or mobile tokens stop working.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
