What is wger?

wger is a free, open-source workout, nutrition, weight and body-measurement platform with mobile offline sync — build routines, log sets and track progress from a self-hosted fitness app. This template deploys version 2.7.0.

Is wger free?

The core application is free and open source under the GNU Affero General Public License v3 (AGPL-3.0). The bundled PowerSync Service is licensed separately under FSL-1.1-ALv2 — both notices are preserved. What you pay xCloud for is the dedicated server and the management around it, not the software itself.

Can I self-host wger?

Yes — that is exactly what this template deploys. It brings up the official wger image with its Celery worker and beat scheduler, alongside a private PostgreSQL, a private Redis and a private PowerSync instance, all pinned by immutable digest, mounts six persistent volumes, and publishes it over HTTPS on your domain in minutes instead of assembled by hand.

Who becomes the administrator, and how do I sign in?

Nobody is pre-created. Open your HTTPS URL after installation and register the first account yourself through wger's own registration page — that account is created the moment you sign up, not generated or shown to you in a credentials panel.

Is public registration open by default?

Yes. The template starts with registration enabled (ALLOW_REGISTRATION=True). Register the account or accounts you intend to use immediately, then decide whether to keep registration open based on your own needs.

What does xCloud configure automatically?

A Django secret key, a dedicated PostgreSQL database/user/password, a dedicated PowerSync database user/password, the generated JWT signing keypair, all six persistent volumes, the domain and the HTTPS route. Only the internal gateway is published — PostgreSQL, Redis, PowerSync and the wger web app itself stay private.

Is mobile offline sync included?

Yes. A private PowerSync 1.25.0 instance is provisioned for you and reachable at the /ps/ path on your domain, so wger's mobile clients can sync — including while offline — without any extra setup.

What should I back up?

All six volumes together, from the same point in time: wger_postgres_data (accounts, routines, logs, nutrition and PowerSync schema), wger_redis_data (cache and queue state), wger_media (uploaded images and videos), wger_static (collected assets), wger_celery_beat (scheduler state) and wger_runtime (the generated JWT signing keys). A database-only backup is not a complete instance backup.

Backups in xCloud

Does xCloud automatically back up or update wger?

No. The template pins wger, PostgreSQL, Redis, PowerSync and nginx by immutable digest; a catalog re-sync affects new installations only. Before changing any pinned image, review upstream migration notes, take a coordinated backup of all six volumes, keep the Django secret key and wger_runtime stable, then verify sign-in, an existing routine, background jobs, mobile sync and media afterward.

What are the server requirements, and why does this page sell 6 GB?

The template manifest asks for 2 GB of RAM, two CPU cores and 10 GB of disk as a floor for wger alongside PostgreSQL, Redis, PowerSync and its Celery workers. This page sells the 6 GB tier as the entry rung with real room for that full topology to run comfortably.

What survives a restart?

Everything on all six persistent volumes. Restarting the containers or running an xCloud lifecycle action does not touch your accounts, routines, workout logs, nutrition data, media, scheduler state or the JWT signing keys.

Why must the secret key and runtime keys stay stable?

DJANGO_SECRET_KEY and the generated JWT keypair in wger_runtime sign sessions and mobile sync tokens. Changing either invalidates existing sessions and mobile tokens, so they should only ever be rotated deliberately, with everyone expecting to sign in and re-sync again.

How sensitive is the data wger stores?

Fitness, nutrition, weight and body-measurement records are sensitive personal data. Restrict host and account access, use a strong unique password, and encrypt any backups you export off the server.

Is xCloud officially partnered with wger or wger-project?

No. No official partnership or endorsement between xCloud and the wger project has been verified. This is a deployment and server-management option for the open-source wger project.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
