What is ShipShipShip?

Self-hosted ShipShipShip is changelog and roadmap software: a platform for publishing product updates on a public changelog page and a kanban-style roadmap. Its README lists a rich event editor, emoji reactions, a voting system for proposed features, installable themes, optional newsletters and an admin dashboard, and notes it is written in Go with a SvelteKit admin panel and SQLite. It is Apache-2.0 licensed and takes the place of a hosted service such as LaunchNotes.

Can customers vote on the ShipShipShip roadmap?

Yes. The README lists a voting system that lets users vote on proposed features, plus eight emoji reactions for feedback. Votes and reactions are stored in the SQLite database on the shipshipship_data volume, so they stay on your own server.

Does ShipShipShip send newsletters?

It can, but not out of the box. Newsletters are optional and this template configures no mail provider. Add your own SMTP details in the admin panel, send a test, and only then enable automation. Avoid real subscriber addresses until delivery is verified.

How much RAM does ShipShipShip need?

The manifest asks for 512 MB of RAM, one CPU core and 5 GB of disk, which covers ShipShipShip alone. This page sells the 6 GB tier. Uploaded media, themes, events and subscriber history are what grow the disk, so plan for those, not for a database.

How do I update ShipShipShip?

By pinning a newer version yourself. The template fixes 1.3.5 by digest and a catalog re-sync only affects new installs. Back up the volume and your environment values, read the release notes, then change version and digest together without deleting the volume. Never run docker compose down -v.

Is ShipShipShip free and open source?

Yes. The source at v1.3.5 carries the Apache License 2.0, so there is no licence fee. What you pay xCloud for is the Cloud VPS it runs on. If you redistribute modified source or images, keep the applicable notices.

Who owns the data stored in ShipShipShip?

You do. Events, votes, uploads and themes sit on the shipshipship_data volume of your own server, and ShipShipShip has no outside database. xCloud runs the server and the deployment; the changelog content, moderation and subscriber list remain yours to manage.

How do I sign in and rotate the admin password?

Open your domain's /admin and sign in as admin with the generated password in the Credentials panel. To rotate it, edit ADMIN_PASSWORD in the Environment editor and run an xCloud Restart. Leave JWT_SECRET alone, because changing it signs everyone out.

What should I back up for ShipShipShip?

The whole shipshipship_data volume as one consistent unit: the SQLite database, uploaded media and themes. Keep your environment values, especially JWT_SECRET and ADMIN_PASSWORD, with your private recovery notes, and test a restore before you rely on any backup.
