SmokePing Hosting Live In 5 Minutes

Deploy SmokePing on xCloud and get SmokePing hosting that keeps a running history of latency and packet loss to the hosts you care about. xCloud runs the pinned LinuxServer.io image behind an nginx gateway with Basic Auth, generates the password, mounts persistent volumes for your configuration and RRD measurement history, and publishes the graphs over HTTPS in minutes, with example targets already filling in.

What is SmokePing?

SmokePing is a latency logging, graphing and alerting system. Upstream describes a daemon that organises the latency measurements and a CGI that presents the graphs, extensible through plug-in modules. A self-hosted SmokePing measures latency and packet loss to the hosts and services you list, stores the results in RRD files, draws them as graphs and can raise threshold alerts you define in an Alerts file.

On xCloud the install runs SmokePing 2.9.0 from the LinuxServer.io image, pinned by digest, which bundles Apache, the daemon and cron in one container with no database. SmokePing has no login of its own, so an nginx gateway adds Basic Auth with a generated password. Two volumes hold state: smokeping_config for the Targets, Probes, Alerts and General files, and smokeping_data for the RRD history.

From Sign-Up to Live Latency Graphs In Just 3 Easy Steps

A SmokePing setup normally means a container, a web gateway, a login, volumes for config and history, a domain and a certificate before the first graph. This is the same result without assembling any of it.

  1. Step 01

Create your xCloud account and pick SmokePing from the OneClick catalog. Choose your domain and target server — there are no extra fields to fill in.

  2. Step 02

    We Deploy It For You

One click. We bring up the SmokePing image pinned by immutable digest behind an nginx Basic Auth gateway, mount the smokeping_config and smokeping_data volumes, generate the password, and publish it over HTTPS on your domain.

  3. Step 03

    Open The Graphs

Save the password shown in the protected installation credentials, open your HTTPS SmokePing URL at /smokeping/ and sign in as smokeping. Then edit the Targets file over SSH to add your own hosts and restart the app.

Everything SmokePing Does, On Your Own Server

SmokePing runs in full here: scheduled probes, graphs and threshold alerts, with your configuration and history on volumes you own, behind a login only you control.

  • Latency And Loss Graphs

Pings the hosts and services you list on a schedule and draws latency and packet-loss history as graphs.

  • Example Targets Included

Ships with example targets, so graphs start filling within minutes of install.

  • Your Own Targets

Add hosts by editing the Targets file in the config volume; a custom target was probed and graphed in QA.

  • Threshold Alerts

Alerts are configured in the Alerts file, alongside the Probes and General settings in the same config volume.

  • Protected By A Login

Graphs sit behind Basic Auth with a generated password; requests without credentials get 401.

  • History That Survives Restarts

Your RRD measurement history and Targets edits live on persistent volumes and survived an xCloud Restart in QA.

Everything You Need To Run Your Latency Monitor 24/7

Managed hosting for SmokePing, so the parts that keep it online are not your problem.

  • SmokePing 2.9.0 deployed instantly
  • Image pinned by immutable digest
  • Login password generated for you
  • Kept behind xCloud nginx
  • Free SSL certificate
  • Server backups and snapshots
  • Server security updates included
  • 30+ server locations
  • Unused balance refunded

What You Can Do With SmokePing

  • See latency history, not one ping

List your servers, gateways or third-party services and read their latency and packet-loss history as graphs rather than a single ping result.

  • Start with graphs already filling

Use the example targets the template ships, so the graphs start filling within minutes of install while you decide what to add.

  • Add your own targets

Edit the Targets file in the config volume over SSH, then restart the app. A custom target was probed and graphed in QA.

  • Be warned when a link degrades

Define threshold alerts in the Alerts file so a degrading link is flagged rather than noticed afterwards.

SmokePing vs Alternatives

Hosted network monitoring services
Compared with hosted network monitoring services, SmokePing here probes from your own Cloud VPS, so the graphs show that server's view of the targets, and the RRD history stays on the smokeping_data volume you control.
Uptime Kuma
In a SmokePing vs Uptime Kuma comparison, Uptime Kuma has its own OneClick page. It tracks whether websites and services are up and sends status alerts, where SmokePing keeps a latency and packet-loss history.
Beszel Hub
Beszel has its own OneClick page. It monitors servers and containers with historical metrics via agents installed on each system, while SmokePing probes targets from the server it runs on.
Gatus
Gatus has its own OneClick page. Its catalogue entry describes service-health monitoring and status pages for HTTP, TCP, DNS and TLS checks, rather than latency graphs with packet-loss history.

Hear what people are saying about us

See why agencies, developers, startups, and growing businesses choose xCloud to power their projects.

xCloud works really well, I am surprised by its performance being this the release version, I have tried many paid platforms such as runcloud, cloudpages or serveravatar, as well as free platforms such as CyberPanel, CloudPanel or Hestia Control Panel and direct competitors such as SpinupWP and FlyWP. Of all those that I have tried, the platform that works best for WordPress is SpinupWP and I believe that xCloud can reach and surpass that development, its roadmap is promising. Congratulations to the xCloud team, I hope they become the leading platform in the segment, it has all the potential to achieve it!
Brian Geovanny
I've been with runcloud for the last 3 years. However, after trying xcloud for the last month, I'm switching over. They are on a roll with their setup.

I'm moving my servers to xCloud, a cloud control panel by M Asif Rahman and the WPDeveloper team. Their roadmap looks interesting and no, there are no team mates nor API limits with xCloud! #xCloud #wordpress #hosting

xCloud isn't just a solution. It's like one of that friend who got your back when you screw things up pretty bad.

Trust me when I say, once people explore the potential of xCloud they gonna switch from other panels, just keep delivering the best tech, lots of love for the team 😍😍

So far my experience has been smooth like silk. I didn't imagine that configuring and managing a VPS would be so easy. As of today, I have deployed 8 sites. The support is good, and they treat users with respect, even if they ask stupid questions (myself included). For the future, I hope for greater flexibility in scheduled backups and more comprehensive and consistent documentation. I'm sure that within a few months, xCloud will become the leader in its segment. This community is amazing, and the Staff here is super helpful.

Came from cloudways then to runcloud then to xcloud. Looks like I'm staying here.
Gerson El
I've recently taken all of my Vultr-hosted sites and gotten rid of cPanel for them to substitute it with xCloud. I have to say, I'm really impressed with xCloud so far! The interface is definitely the standout feature for me.
Tony Lewis
I came from Cloudways and won't go back. Highly impressed with xCloud. Glad I gave them a chance.
Jared McDowell
I like xCloud better than RunCloud, but one thing I'll point out is that some years ago RunCloud was hungry for business, the support was outstanding, and the community was active and helped each other. Maybe it was sold, there was a change in management, or they stopped being hungry, but the quality of the RunCloud offering declined and it hasn't been moving forward quickly. My point is that currently the xCloud team has the edge and it is theirs to keep or lose

Dear xCloud Team, I have been using xCloud for some time now and am genuinely impressed with its capabilities and the flexibility it offers by allowing users to bring their own VPS for management. It's a fantastic service, and my experience so far has been very positive. Successful migrated 5 sites on a single server. Xcloud migration tool worked great. There were few hiccups with security plugin like MalCare but disabling the plugin prior to migration worked just fine.

Frequently Asked Questions

Feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns you may have.

Can you self-host SmokePing with Docker?

Yes, and this template is SmokePing Docker hosting without the setup. Upstream is a daemon plus a CGI; here xCloud runs the LinuxServer.io 2.9.0 image pinned by digest behind an nginx Basic Auth gateway, with two named volumes and HTTPS on your domain.

How much RAM does SmokePing need?

The floor is 512 MB of RAM, one CPU core and 2 GB of disk, and QA saw about 80 MiB idle. The 6 GB plan is the entry rung here, with room for many targets and their RRD files.

How do I sign in to SmokePing?

Use the username smokeping and the generated password shown in the installation credentials. SmokePing has no login of its own; the Basic Auth gateway in front of it asks for these credentials, and requests without them get a 401. The graphs live at /smokeping/.

How do I monitor my own hosts with SmokePing?

Edit the Targets file in the config volume over SSH, then restart the app; the credentials card shows the exact docker exec and docker restart commands. The Environment editor does not change SmokePing's files, so edit them in the container.

Where are SmokePing measurements taken from?

From inside the container on your server, so they reflect that server's network. Only hosts reachable by outbound traffic can be monitored, and ICMP probes use the container's default raw-socket capability. Measure from where your users or services actually sit.

How do I set up SmokePing alerts?

Define threshold alerts in the Alerts file in the config volume. Mailing them needs your own SMTP settings in ssmtp.conf plus mailhost, contact and owner in General, because the template does not ship any mail settings.

What should I back up on a SmokePing server?

Back up both volumes together: smokeping_config, which holds Targets, Probes, Alerts and General, and smokeping_data, which holds the RRD measurement history. Keep the generated gateway password private, since it protects every graph, and test a restore before you rely on the copies.

How do I upgrade SmokePing?

The pinned 2.9.0 LinuxServer.io build stays in place until you move to a newer template version. Copy both volumes first and read the notes. Existing sites keep their rendered snapshot and are never changed by xCloud.

Is SmokePing free?

SmokePing is free software under the GNU General Public License version 2, per the LICENSE file in its repository, so there is no licence fee. You pay for the dedicated Cloud VPS that runs the probes and stores the history.

What is the difference between SmokePing and Uptime Kuma?

Uptime Kuma checks whether a service is up and sends status alerts. SmokePing instead probes on a schedule and keeps latency and packet-loss history as graphs, so you can see when quality changed. Pick by the question you need answered: is it up, or how good is the path to it.

Is there a SmokePing cloud service?

Not through this page. Your SmokePing runs on a Cloud VPS that xCloud prepares, measuring from that server's network, with history kept on volumes you own and a login only you control, which keeps the graphs private.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
