What is Zabbix?

Is Zabbix free?
Yes — Zabbix 7.4 is open source under the AGPL-3.0 license and carries no software license fee. Optional Zabbix subscriptions, training, consulting and professional services are separate upstream offerings. What you pay xCloud for is the dedicated server it runs on and the management around it.
Can I self-host Zabbix?
Yes — that is exactly what this template deploys. It brings up the official Zabbix server and Nginx web images, pinned by immutable digest, alongside a private PostgreSQL 17.11 sidecar, mounts persistent volumes, and publishes it over HTTPS on your domain in minutes instead of assembled by hand.
Which Zabbix credentials does xCloud generate?
xCloud generates the initial administrator password and all PostgreSQL credentials. You choose the administrator username, which defaults to Admin. The template rotates the upstream built-in credential once before the web interface becomes ready — rotate the password again yourself after first sign-in.
Does the template enroll monitoring targets automatically?
No. After deployment, add hosts yourself and configure the appropriate Zabbix agents, templates or agentless checks for each target — their connectivity, credentials and firewall rules stay your responsibility.
What does xCloud configure automatically?
The pinned Zabbix server and web images, a private PostgreSQL 17.11 database with generated credentials, the administrator password, persistent storage, the domain and the HTTPS route. Only the Zabbix web interface is published — PostgreSQL and the server process have no host port.
What should I back up?
zabbix_postgres_data, zabbix_alertscripts, zabbix_modules and zabbix_bootstrap_state together, at an application-consistent point. PostgreSQL holds users, hosts, items, history, triggers, dashboards and configuration; the other volumes hold customer-added scripts, modules and the one-time credential-rotation marker. Keep a verified copy off-server and test restoration.
Does xCloud automatically back up or update Zabbix?
No. The template pins Zabbix 7.4.5 by immutable digest; a catalog re-sync affects new installations only. Review upstream release and upgrade guidance, take a verified backup of all four volumes, and test the migration before changing Zabbix or PostgreSQL.
What are the server requirements, and why does this page sell 6 GB?
The template manifest asks for 2 CPU cores, 4 GiB of RAM and 20 GB of disk as a starting requirement for Zabbix. This page sells the 6 GB tier as the entry rung at that starting point — more monitored hosts, shorter check intervals, longer history retention and higher event volume may need a larger size.
What survives a restart?
Everything on zabbix_postgres_data, zabbix_alertscripts, zabbix_modules and zabbix_bootstrap_state, because all four are persistent named volumes. Restarting the container does not touch your hosts, history, triggers, scripts or modules.
Are external scripts and webhooks safe to enable?
Review any external script, media type, webhook or target credential before enabling it — monitoring integrations can reach other systems, so treat them the same way you would any credential with outbound network access.
Is xCloud officially partnered with Zabbix?
No. No official partnership or endorsement between xCloud and the Zabbix project has been verified. This is a deployment and server-management option for the open-source Zabbix project.
Can I cancel anytime?
Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
