What is Donetick?

Donetick is an open-source, user-friendly app for organising tasks and chores, whose README tagline is Simplify Tasks and Chores, Together. You can create tasks solo or share and assign them in a group with family and friends. Its README lists natural language task creation, flexible and adaptive scheduling, assignee rotation, subtasks, priorities and labels, a points system, and Things for tracking values that are not tasks. Self-hosted Donetick is a chore manager you run yourself. AGPL-3.0 is its licence.

As deployed on xCloud, the template runs Donetick v0.1.79 from the upstream image, pinned by digest, as one container using local password authentication and an embedded SQLite database. The database and application data sit on the donetick_data volume. There is no generated admin login: you open the address and create the first account yourself.

Is Donetick free?

Yes. Donetick uses the AGPL-3.0 open-source licence, whose file is linked here at the pinned v0.1.79 tag, whose copyleft terms apply to modified versions. You pay for the server underneath it, and nothing extra per household member.

Can you self-host Donetick with Docker?

Yes, and this Donetick Docker hosting template does it for you: the upstream donetick/donetick image, pinned by digest, is a single container on your own server behind HTTPS in front of port 2021. It is not a Donetick cloud account, so your household data stays on your server.

How much RAM does Donetick need?

Donetick needs at least 512 MB of RAM, 1 CPU core and 3 GB of disk per its manifest, and it keeps everything in an embedded SQLite database. The database grows with task history. This page sells the 6 GB tier, which leaves enormous headroom above that floor.

How do I sign in to Donetick?

With a local account you create yourself. There is no generated admin login: open your HTTPS address after install, create the first account through Donetick's own sign-up screen, then create or join a household circle. Registration is open to anyone who reaches the address, so keep the URL private.

Can I share chores with my family in Donetick?

Yes. Upstream says you can create tasks solo or with family and friends, make a group, and share or assign tasks within it. Each person registers their own local account on your server. This page does not preconfigure notifications, so check what reminders suit your household.

Do I need an external identity provider?

No. This template uses Donetick's own local account authentication, with no SSO or OAuth configured, and none is needed to sign up or sign in. Accounts are created inside Donetick, and the generated JWT secret only signs session tokens rather than acting as a login.

What happens if the Donetick JWT secret changes?

Every active session is invalidated and everyone has to sign in again. Accounts and chores are unaffected, because they live in the SQLite database on donetick_data. Keep the secret together with the volume when you restore, so a recovered install behaves the same as before.

What survives a restart?

Accounts, household circles and chores, because they live on the persistent donetick_data volume. A restart does not touch the database. Only a deleted site or deleted volume removes them, so keep your own backups of the volume before any maintenance.

How do I back up Donetick?

Back up the donetick_data volume, mounted at /donetick-data, which holds the SQLite database and application data. Keep the JWT secret with it. Copy the volume off the server while the app is idle, and test a restore on a disposable install before relying on it.

How do I upgrade Donetick?

A live v0.1.79 install is left alone by catalog updates; adopting a newer template version is up to you. Back up the complete volume first and read the upstream release notes, because the project is young and versions below 1.0 can change behaviour between releases.

Is Donetick an alternative to Todoist?

Can I cancel anytime?
