What is Homarr?

Homarr is a self-hosted dashboard released under the Apache-2.0 licence. Upstream lists a drag-and-drop grid, app management without YAML, user management with permissions and groups, single sign-on through OIDC or LDAP, a built-in search, an icon picker and integrations with other self-hosted apps. A self-hosted Homarr is a start page for your services and bookmarks, in the same space as Heimdall and Homer.

On xCloud the template runs the upstream ghcr.io/homarr-labs/homarr v1.73.0 image, pinned by digest, as one container with SQLite and Redis embedded and one volume, homarr_data. The Docker socket, privileged mode and host networking are deliberately left out, so Docker discovery and container control are not available. You create the administrator in Homarr's first-run wizard; xCloud does not create or store that password.

Can you self-host Homarr with Docker?

Yes. For Homarr Docker hosting, the template runs the upstream ghcr.io/homarr-labs/homarr v1.73.0 image, pinned by digest, as one container with SQLite and Redis embedded. xCloud's nginx serves HTTPS on your domain and forwards it to container port 7575, and no Docker socket, privileged mode, host networking or external database is used.

Is Homarr free and open source?

Homarr is open source under the Apache-2.0 licence, so the dashboard has no licence fee. xCloud charges for a dedicated Cloud VPS and the deployment work. Any services you add as integrations keep their own licences and costs.

How much RAM does Homarr need?

The manifest lists 512 MB of RAM with one core and 2 GB of disk, covering the app with its embedded SQLite and Redis. This page's 6 GB plan sits far above that floor, so extra widgets and integrations have room to grow.

How do I create the first Homarr administrator?

Open your HTTPS address straight after deploy, choose Start from scratch and create the administrator username and password in the wizard. Whoever completes onboarding first becomes the owner, so do not leave the page unclaimed. xCloud neither creates nor displays that password.

Can Homarr manage Docker containers?

Not here. The template deliberately omits the Docker socket, so Docker discovery and container controls are unavailable by default. This avoids giving the dashboard host-level Docker control. Integrations that use HTTP addresses of other services remain available from the Homarr interface.

How do I back up Homarr?

Back up the whole homarr_data volume, which holds the SQLite database, embedded Redis state, boards, users, icons, preferences and integrations. Keep the original SECRET_ENCRYPTION_KEY with it, because stored integration secrets cannot be decrypted without it. Stop the container first for a consistent copy.

How do I upgrade Homarr?

Version v1.73.0 is fixed by tag and digest, so a catalog re-sync affects new installs only. Back up homarr_data and the encryption key, read the upstream release notes, then adopt a newer template version. Never change SECRET_ENCRYPTION_KEY, or encrypted integration credentials become unreadable.

Does Homarr support single sign-on?

Upstream lists single sign-on through OIDC and LDAP, alongside user management with permissions and groups. The template configures neither provider, so you add them yourself from Homarr's settings. SMTP is not configured either, which affects email-based features.

Can I run Homarr in the cloud on xCloud?

Yes. Homarr cloud use gives the dashboard a dedicated Cloud VPS with your domain and certificate attached. A server hosted elsewhere can be connected as self-managed and run this template. Connections to services you add start from this server, so they must be reachable from it.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
