What is HortusFox?
HortusFox is a free, open-source, self-hosted workspace for cataloging plants by location, with care tracking, tasks, a calendar, notes and photos, shared across a household or a team. This template deploys version 5.9.
Is HortusFox free?
Yes — it is free and open source under the MIT License. What you pay xCloud for is the dedicated server it runs on and the management around it, not the application itself.
Can I self-host HortusFox?
Yes — that is exactly what this template deploys. It brings up the official HortusFox 5.9 image alongside a private MariaDB 11.8.3 database, both pinned by immutable digest, mounts all seven persistent volumes and publishes it over HTTPS on your domain in minutes instead of assembled by hand.
How do I sign in?
With generated administrator credentials. You enter only your administrator email at install; xCloud generates the admin password along with independent database and database-root passwords, shown once in your xCloud credential panel.
What does xCloud configure automatically?
The administrator password, a private MariaDB database with generated user and root passwords, all seven persistent volumes, the domain and the HTTPS route. Only HortusFox's web interface is published through xCloud-managed HTTPS — MariaDB stays private to the internal network.
Are SMTP, weather or plant-identification features enabled?
No. HortusFox supports optional SMTP, weather and plant-identification integrations, but this template does not configure any of them — each needs your own provider settings or API keys added inside HortusFox after install.
What should I back up?
All seven volumes together, from the same maintenance window: hortusfox_db_data (database), hortusfox_images, hortusfox_attachments, hortusfox_logs, hortusfox_backup, hortusfox_themes and hortusfox_migrations. A database-only snapshot is not a complete backup — pause writes or stop the app for a coordinated snapshot and test restoration in an isolated installation.
Does xCloud automatically back up or update HortusFox?
No. The template pins HortusFox 5.9 and MariaDB 11.8.3 by immutable digest; a catalog re-sync affects new installations only. Review upstream release and migration notes, take a coordinated backup of all seven volumes, then verify sign-in, locations, plants and uploaded media before changing either pinned image.
What are the server requirements?
The template manifest asks for 1 GB of RAM, one CPU core and 10 GB of disk as a floor. This page sells the 6 GB tier, comfortable headroom above that floor — allocate more storage than the floor if you keep a large photo collection.
What survives a restart?
Everything on the seven persistent volumes — database records, images, attachments, logs, backups, themes and migrations. Restarting the containers does not touch your locations, plants, care history or uploaded media.
Is xCloud officially partnered with HortusFox?
No. No official partnership or endorsement between xCloud and the HortusFox project has been verified. This is a deployment and server-management option for the open-source HortusFox project.
Can I run other apps on the same server?
Yes. It is a dedicated Cloud VPS, not a locked appliance, so you can deploy other OneClick apps or your own sites beside it as long as the resources are there.
Can I cancel anytime?
Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
