MySQL Hosting Live In 5 Minutes

Deploy MySQL hosting and run a standalone MySQL database hosting setup for your applications on a server you control. xCloud runs the pinned MySQL 9.7.2 LTS image as one container, creates an app user and app database with generated passwords, keeps root limited to local access and stores the data on a persistent volume — you connect your own application to the connection string.

What is MySQL?

MySQL Community Server is an open-source relational database: a multithreaded, multi-user SQL database server. Run on your own machine it is a self-hosted MySQL server and the alternative to a provider-run service such as Amazon RDS. It is dual licensed, so you can use it under the GNU General Public License or buy a commercial licence from Oracle. This template runs the 9.7 long-term-support release as a standalone server for your applications.

On xCloud it is one mysql:9.7.2 container pinned by immutable digest, with an app user and app database created on first start and the mysql_data volume holding the data. It is a data service rather than a web app: there is no web UI and no domain, and your own application connects to the published ports directly.

From Sign-Up to a Running Database In Just 3 Easy Steps

A MySQL server normally means a container, a data volume, an app user, a database, passwords and a locked-down root account before the first connection. This is the same result without assembling any of it.

  1. Step 01

Create your xCloud account and pick MySQL from the OneClick catalog. Choose your target server and review the App Username, App Database and generated App Password; the Root Password is under Advanced.

  2. Step 02

    We Deploy It For You

One click. We bring up the mysql:9.7.2 image, pinned by immutable digest, as a single container with no other services, create the app user and app database on first start, mount the mysql_data volume, and publish the classic MySQL port and the X Protocol port on the server's IP address. Allow one to two minutes for first start.

  3. Step 03

    Connect Your Application

Save the connection string and passwords from the protected installation credentials, then connect with mysql -h <server-ip> -P <port> -u <user> -p <database>. MySQL has no web UI and no domain, so open the ports in your own firewall for your application's address only.

Everything MySQL Does, On Your Own Server

MySQL runs in full here: a standalone SQL database on your own server, reached by your own application over the network.

  • A Standalone Relational Database

MySQL Community Server for web apps, services and SQL workloads, in a single container.

  • 9.7 LTS, Pinned

The long-term-support 9.7 line, pinned to an exact patch release and image digest.

  • App User And App Database

An app user and app database are created on first start, and the connection string is shown in the protected credentials.

  • Root Kept Off The Network

Root is limited to local access on the server and is refused over the network; wrong or empty root passwords are rejected.

  • Classic And X Protocol Ports

Both the classic MySQL port and the X Protocol port (MySQL Shell, X DevAPI) are available.

  • Data Survives A Restart

Data lives in the mysql_data volume; in QA a row was written, the container restarted and the row read back.

Everything You Need To Run Your Database Server 24/7

Managed hosting for MySQL, so the parts that keep it online are not your problem.

  • MySQL 9.7.2 deployed instantly
  • Image pinned by digest
  • Passwords generated for you
  • Root refused over the network
  • Persistent mysql_data volume
  • Server backups and snapshots
  • Server security updates included
  • 30+ server locations
  • Unused balance refunded

What You Can Do With MySQL

  • Back a web application with SQL

Point your application at the app database through the generated connection string, using the app user rather than root, so the web tier never holds an administrator login.

  • Give a service its own SQL store

Run one MySQL server for an internal service, with its own app user and database, on a server you control instead of a shared provider-run instance.

  • Develop against MySQL 9.7 LTS

Connect with the classic protocol or with MySQL Shell over the X Protocol port, so a team can test against the exact release that will run in production.

  • Move a database off a provider's service

Restore a mysqldump into the app database, then switch your application's connection string to the new host and port and open that port only to the application's address.

MySQL vs Alternatives

Amazon RDS
A provider-run database service where the provider operates the engine; here the server is yours and you administer it, including firewall rules, TLS and backups, with MySQL Community Server 9.7 LTS in one container.
MariaDB
MariaDB is the MySQL-derived open-source database; this template runs Oracle's MySQL Community Server 9.7 LTS instead, so pick MariaDB when your application targets it.
PostgreSQL
PostgreSQL is a different relational database with its own protocol and SQL dialect; choose it if your application targets PostgreSQL.
MongoDB
MongoDB stores JSON-like documents rather than relational tables; keep MySQL for SQL workloads and use MongoDB when your data model is documents.

See why agencies, developers, startups, and growing businesses choose xCloud to power their projects.

xCloud works really well, I am surprised by its performance being this the release version, I have tried many paid platforms such as runcloud, cloudpages or serveravatar, as well as free platforms such as CyberPanel, CloudPanel or Hestia Control Panel and direct competitors such as SpinupWP and FlyWP. Of all those that I have tried, the platform that works best for WordPress is SpinupWP and I believe that xCloud can reach and surpass that development, its roadmap is promising. Congratulations to the xCloud team, I hope they become the leading platform in the segment, it has all the potential to achieve it!
Brian Geovanny
I've been with runcloud for the last 3 years. However, after trying xcloud for the last month, I'm switching over. They are on a roll with their setup.

I'm moving my servers to xCloud, a cloud control panel by M Asif Rahman and the WPDeveloper team. Their roadmap looks interesting and no, there are no team mates nor API limits with xCloud! #xCloud #wordpress #hosting

xCloud isn't just a solution. It's like one of that friend who got your back when you screw things up pretty bad.

Trust me when I say, once people explore the potential of xCloud they gonna switch from other panels, just keep delivering the best tech, lots of love for the team 😍😍

So far my experience has been smooth like silk. I didn't imagine that configuring and managing a VPS would be so easy. As of today, I have deployed 8 sites. The support is good, and they treat users with respect, even if they ask stupid questions (myself included). For the future, I hope for greater flexibility in scheduled backups and more comprehensive and consistent documentation. I'm sure that within a few months, xCloud will become the leader in its segment. This community is amazing, and the Staff here is super helpful.

Came from cloudways then to runcloud then to xcloud. Looks like I'm staying here.
Gerson El
I've recently taken all of my Vultr-hosted sites and gotten rid of cPanel for them to substitute it with xCloud. I have to say, I'm really impressed with xCloud so far! The interface is definitely the standout feature for me.
Tony Lewis
I came from Cloudways and won't go back. Highly impressed with xCloud. Glad I gave them a chance.
Jared McDowell
I like xCloud better than RunCloud, but one thing I'll point out is that some years ago RunCloud was hungry for business, the support was outstanding, and the community was active and helped each other. Maybe it was sold, there was a change in management, or they stopped being hungry, but the quality of the RunCloud offering declined and it hasn't been moving forward quickly. My point is that currently the xCloud team has the edge and it is theirs to keep or lose

Dear xCloud Team, I have been using xCloud for some time now and am genuinely impressed with its capabilities and the flexibility it offers by allowing users to bring their own VPS for management. It's a fantastic service, and my experience so far has been very positive. Successful migrated 5 sites on a single server. Xcloud migration tool worked great. There were few hiccups with security plugin like MalCare but disabling the plugin prior to migration worked just fine.

Frequently Asked Questions

Feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns you may have.

Can I run MySQL in Docker?

Yes, and this template is MySQL Docker hosting without a compose file: one mysql:9.7.2 container, pinned by digest, with the mysql_data volume and two published ports. You choose an app username, app database and passwords, or let xCloud generate the passwords.

How much RAM does MySQL need?

The template's baseline asks for 1 CPU core, 512 MB of RAM and 2 GB of disk; measured idle use in QA was about 441 MiB. This page sells the 6 GB tier, which leaves headroom for buffer pool growth and many client connections.

How do I connect to a self-hosted MySQL server?

Use the Connection String from the credentials panel, or run mysql -h <server-ip> -P <port> -u <user> -p <database> with the host, port, app username and app password shown there. Connect as the app user, never root, and keep the string out of public code.

Can I log in as root remotely?

No. Root is created for local access only and is refused over the network and from other containers. To administer, run docker exec on the server and open the mysql client as root with the Root Password from the credentials panel.

Why does my old client fail to connect?

MySQL 9 supports only the caching_sha2_password login plugin and has removed mysql_native_password, so older clients and drivers that cannot use caching_sha2_password fail to authenticate. Use a recent client or driver. Without TLS, the client must also fetch the server's RSA public key, which JDBC does with allowPublicKeyRetrieval=true.

Is the database exposed and encrypted?

The classic and X Protocol ports are published on the server's IP address, and this template does not enforce TLS; the server uses the image's self-signed certificate. Restrict both ports with your own firewall, and use a VPN or tunnel on untrusted networks.

Does MySQL support replication?

Upstream does: its manual has a chapter on setting up replication servers. This template runs one standalone server and configures no replica, so any replication would be something you set up yourself, with its own firewall and credentials.

Is MySQL free to use?

Yes, under the GNU General Public License: MySQL is dual licensed, and Oracle also sells a commercial licence. The Community Server in this template is free to run. The server plan is the only cost here.

How do I back up a MySQL database here?

Back up the mysql_data volume, or take a logical dump with mysqldump --all-databases --single-transaction run through docker exec. The platform does not schedule database backups for this template, so run the dump on your own schedule and test a restore.

How do I upgrade MySQL to a newer version?

The image is pinned to 9.7.2 by digest and nothing upgrades it automatically. Within the 9.7 line, bump the tag and digest after reading the release notes. Moving between series is a one-way data directory upgrade, so back up mysql_data first.

Is this a MySQL cloud server I can resize?

It is MySQL on a dedicated Cloud VPS, so you can use it as a MySQL cloud server and resize the plan for more RAM or disk. It is one container with no managed failover, and the mysql_data volume stays on that server.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
