What is Norish?
Norish is a free, open-source, self-hosted recipe collection built for households and teams — manual recipe entry, URL imports, image uploads, meal organization and real-time shared updates. This template deploys version 0.21.0-beta.
Is Norish free?
Yes — it is free and open source under the GNU Affero General Public License v3 (AGPL-3.0). What you pay xCloud for is the dedicated server it runs on and the management around it, not the application itself.
Can I self-host Norish?
Yes — that is exactly what this template deploys. It brings up the official Norish image alongside a private PostgreSQL database, Redis and its Obscura import helper, all four pinned by immutable digest, mounts its three persistent volumes and publishes it over HTTPS on your domain in minutes instead of assembled by hand.
How do I sign in and create an administrator?
There is no default administrator account and no generated password. Open your HTTPS URL after installation and create the first account yourself — it automatically becomes the server owner and administrator, and self-service registration then closes.
What does xCloud configure automatically?
A private PostgreSQL database with a generated name, user and password, a stable MASTER_KEY, all three persistent volumes, the domain and the HTTPS route. Only Norish's web application is published through xCloud-managed HTTPS — PostgreSQL, Redis and Obscura stay private to the internal network.
How do I import a recipe from a website?
Paste the public recipe URL into Norish and it uses the bundled Obscura service — an isolated, browser-based import helper — to fetch and parse it. Obscura's control endpoint is never exposed outside the internal network.
Is this a stable release?
No. Upstream labels this v0.21.0-beta. Validate backups and the workflows that matter to your household or team before relying on it for anything important.
Are OIDC, GitHub, Google or AI integrations set up?
No. This template intentionally leaves those optional integrations unconfigured so incomplete credentials can't break first boot. Configure them later from Settings → Admin inside Norish, after reviewing the installed release's documentation.
What should I back up?
norish_uploads, norish_postgres_data and norish_redis_data together, from the same maintenance window. A database-only snapshot is not a complete Norish backup because uploaded images live outside PostgreSQL. Preserve MASTER_KEY with the backup — changing it makes previously encrypted values unreadable.
Does xCloud automatically back up or update Norish?
No. The template pins Norish, Obscura, PostgreSQL and Redis by immutable digest; a catalog re-sync affects new installations only. Review Norish release notes, take a coordinated backup of all three volumes, then verify sign-in, recipe read-back, uploads, imports and real-time updates before changing any pinned image.
What are the server requirements?
The template manifest asks for 2 GB of RAM, two CPU cores and 10 GB of disk as a floor — running Norish alongside PostgreSQL, Redis and Obscura. This page sells the 6 GB tier, comfortable headroom above that floor, with extra disk useful for a growing collection of recipe images.
What survives a restart?
Everything on norish_uploads, norish_postgres_data and norish_redis_data, because all three are persistent named volumes. Restarting the containers does not touch your account, recipes, uploaded images or real-time job state.
Is xCloud officially partnered with Norish?
No. No official partnership or endorsement between xCloud and the Norish project has been verified. This is a deployment and server-management option for the open-source Norish project.
Can I cancel anytime?
Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
