Elasticsearch Hosting Live In 5 Minutes

Elasticsearch hosting on xCloud gives your applications a self-hosted search engine with a private search and analytics API, without assembling the stack yourself. Deploy Elasticsearch from the OneClick catalog and xCloud starts the pinned single-node image, generates the elastic password, mounts the elasticsearch_data volume and puts the API behind HTTPS on your domain. There is no web dashboard: you index and query over HTTP with curl or an SDK.

What is Elasticsearch?

Elasticsearch is a distributed search and analytics engine, scalable data store and vector database. Its README lists full-text search, vector search, retrieval augmented generation, logs, metrics and APM as use cases. Self-hosted Elasticsearch makes it a self-hosted search engine you run yourself, instead of the hosted Elastic Cloud service. It is written in Java and licensed under a triple licence: AGPL-3.0, SSPL-1.0 and Elastic License 2.0.

On xCloud this template deploys Elasticsearch 9.5.4 as one authenticated HTTP API node on your own Cloud VPS, with the official image pinned by digest. HTTPS fronts the API, the container port is bound to localhost, and the elasticsearch_data volume holds indexes, cluster state and the security index. It has no Kibana and no browser dashboard, and it is single-node.

From Sign-Up to a Live Elasticsearch API In 3 Easy Steps

Running Elasticsearch yourself means a container, credentials, a data volume, a domain and HTTPS before the first query. This is the same result without assembling any of it.

  1. Step 01

Create your xCloud account, pick Elasticsearch from the OneClick catalog and select a domain. No credentials to type.

  2. Step 02

    We Deploy It For You

We start the pinned 9.5.4 image, generate the elastic password, mount elasticsearch_data and serve the API over HTTPS.

  3. Step 03

    Call The API

Save the elastic password from the protected credentials. Allow a minute or two for first start, then call the HTTPS URL.

Your Search API, Secured From Day One

A single-node Elasticsearch 9.5.4 API on a server you own, with security on and no anonymous access.

  • Full-Text Search And Aggregations

Index documents and run full-text search and aggregations through the standard Elasticsearch HTTP API, from curl or any SDK.

  • Secured From First Start

Requests without credentials get 401 and wrong passwords are rejected. There is no anonymous access on this install.

  • Limited Users And API Keys

Create limited users or API keys for each app instead of sharing the elastic password. Read-only roles are refused writes.

  • Persistent Indexes

Indexes, cluster state and the security index live on elasticsearch_data, so documents and logins survive an xCloud Restart.

  • Single Node, Clearly Scoped

One node suits development, internal search and small workloads. Upstream recommends a multi-node cluster when high availability matters.

  • No Web Dashboard

Elasticsearch is an HTTPS API at your domain, not a user interface. Use curl, an SDK or any HTTP client to index and query.

Everything You Need To Run Your Search API, Your Server

xCloud runs the single node, HTTPS and generated credentials. Your indexes, users and application code stay yours to manage.

  • Elasticsearch 9.5.4 deployed
  • Official image pinned by digest
  • HTTPS API through xCloud
  • Generated elastic password
  • Persistent elasticsearch_data volume
  • Unused balance refunded

What You Can Do With Elasticsearch

  • Add full-text search to your product

A developer indexes product, article or ticket documents over the HTTPS API and queries them with full-text search from the application backend, using a limited user or API key rather than the elastic password.

  • Run aggregations over your own records

An analyst or backend team sends indexed records to the node and runs aggregations over them through the same HTTP API, keeping the data on a server they control instead of in a hosted search service.

  • Store vectors for retrieval-augmented generation

Teams building generative AI features use Elasticsearch as a vector database. This node holds the vectors and documents on your own server, and your application queries it over HTTPS with its own API key.

  • Give an internal tool a private search backend

A small team that wants search for a wiki, log archive or admin tool deploys one node for development or internal use, and keeps every request behind basic authentication with no anonymous access.

Elasticsearch vs Alternatives

Elastic Cloud
Elastic's own README names Elasticsearch Service on Elastic Cloud as the simplest way to get a managed deployment. This template instead runs one node on your xCloud server, with the password and elasticsearch_data volume in your hands.
OpenSearch
OpenSearch is a separate search engine with its own OneClick page. This template runs Elasticsearch 9.5.4 with its Elasticsearch HTTP API, so pick the OpenSearch page if you specifically want that project.
Typesense
Typesense is a separate search engine with its own OneClick page, so it is a different server and API. Choose this template when your application already talks to Elasticsearch's HTTP API.
Apache Solr
Apache Solr is another search server with its own OneClick page and its own API. Choose this template when you want the Elasticsearch HTTP API, a generated elastic password and HTTPS in front.

See why agencies, developers, startups, and growing businesses choose xCloud to power their projects.

xCloud works really well, I am surprised by its performance being this the release version, I have tried many paid platforms such as runcloud, cloudpages or serveravatar, as well as free platforms such as CyberPanel, CloudPanel or Hestia Control Panel and direct competitors such as SpinupWP and FlyWP. Of all those that I have tried, the platform that works best for WordPress is SpinupWP and I believe that xCloud can reach and surpass that development, its roadmap is promising. Congratulations to the xCloud team, I hope they become the leading platform in the segment, it has all the potential to achieve it!

I've been with runcloud for the last 3 years. However, after trying xcloud for the last month, I'm switching over. They are on a roll with their setup.

xCloud isn't just a solution. It's like one of that friend who got your back when you screw things up pretty bad.

Trust me when I say, once people explore the potential of xCloud they gonna switch from other panels, just keep delivering the best tech, lots of love for the team 😍😍

So far my experience has been smooth like silk. I didn't imagine that configuring and managing a VPS would be so easy. As of today, I have deployed 8 sites. The support is good, and they treat users with respect, even if they ask stupid questions (myself included). For the future, I hope for greater flexibility in scheduled backups and more comprehensive and consistent documentation. I'm sure that within a few months, xCloud will become the leader in its segment. This community is amazing, and the Staff here is super helpful.

Came from cloudways then to runcloud then to xcloud. Looks like I'm staying here.

I've recently taken all of my Vultr-hosted sites and gotten rid of cPanel for them to substitute it with xCloud. I have to say, I'm really impressed with xCloud so far! The interface is definitely the standout feature for me.
Tony Lewis
I came from Cloudways and won't go back. Highly impressed with xCloud. Glad I gave them a chance.
Jared McDowell
I like xCloud better than RunCloud, but one thing I'll point out is that some years ago RunCloud was hungry for business, the support was outstanding, and the community was active and helped each other. Maybe it was sold, there was a change in management, or they stopped being hungry, but the quality of the RunCloud offering declined and it hasn't been moving forward quickly. My point is that currently the xCloud team has the edge and it is theirs to keep or lose

Dear xCloud Team, I have been using xCloud for some time now and am genuinely impressed with its capabilities and the flexibility it offers by allowing users to bring their own VPS for management. It's a fantastic service, and my experience so far has been very positive. Successful migrated 5 sites on a single server. Xcloud migration tool worked great. There were few hiccups with security plugin like MalCare but disabling the plugin prior to migration worked just fine.

Frequently Asked Questions

Feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns you may have.

What is Elasticsearch used for?

Elasticsearch is used for full-text search, vector search, retrieval augmented generation, and for logs, metrics and APM data. On this template it is a single HTTPS API node: your application indexes documents and runs searches and aggregations with curl or an SDK, as there is no dashboard.

Can you run Elasticsearch in Docker?

Yes, and this Elasticsearch Docker hosting template does it for you: the official 9.5.4 image, pinned by digest, runs under Docker Compose on your Cloud VPS with an elasticsearch_data volume. It is your own node, not Elastic Cloud (the hosted service people search for as "Elasticsearch cloud").

How much memory does Elasticsearch need?

The template manifest asks for 2048 MB of RAM, 1 CPU core and 10 GB of disk, with the JVM heap fixed at 1 GB. Measured use in QA was about 1.45 GB, so this page sells the 6 GB plan. Raise the heap only on a larger server, to at most half the RAM.

How do I find the Elasticsearch elastic user password?

xCloud generates a 24-character password for the elastic user and shows it in the protected installation credentials with the API URL. Call the API with HTTP basic authentication as elastic. Unauthenticated requests return 401, and there is no web login page or anonymous access.

How do I reset the Elasticsearch elastic password?

ELASTIC_PASSWORD only seeds the elastic user on the first start with an empty data volume, so changing it and redeploying does not rotate the live password. Run elasticsearch-reset-password -u elastic inside the container, then paste the printed value into ELASTIC_PASSWORD so the page matches.

Is Elasticsearch open source?

It is licensed under a triple licence: AGPL-3.0, SSPL-1.0 and Elastic License 2.0. The default image includes Elastic License 2.0 components, which forbid offering the software to third parties as a hosted or managed service. Each install here is for your own use on your own server.

What is the difference between Elasticsearch and OpenSearch?

They are separate projects with separate servers. This template runs Elasticsearch 9.5.4 and its Elasticsearch HTTP API as one authenticated node. OpenSearch has its own OneClick page, so choose that page if you want OpenSearch rather than Elasticsearch.

Does Elasticsearch have a REST API?

Yes. Elasticsearch is an HTTP API: you index a document with a PUT request, then search it, all over HTTPS at your domain with basic authentication. Create a limited user or API key for each application instead of sharing the elastic password, and never embed it in browser code.

How do I back up Elasticsearch indexes?

Back up the whole elasticsearch_data volume, which holds indexes, cluster state and the security index; a partial restore can leave an unusable node. Use Elasticsearch snapshot and restore, or stop the service before copying the volume, store the backup off-server and test a restore.

Is Elasticsearch a vector database?

Yes. Its README describes it as a distributed search and analytics engine, scalable data store and vector database, and lists vector search and retrieval augmented generation among its use cases. This node is single-node, so upstream's advice for high availability is a multi-node cluster.

How do I upgrade Elasticsearch?

Upgrades are manual and never automatic. New installs stay on the pinned 9.5.4 image, and re-syncing the catalog does not touch existing ones. Take a verified backup of elasticsearch_data, read upstream's upgrade notes for every version you cross, then recreate the service without deleting volumes.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
