Operational Hosting Live In 5 Minutes

Operational hosting on xCloud lets you deploy Operational, an open-source event tracking tool, and watch signups, payments and errors that your own code sends to it. xCloud runs the pinned image with a private MySQL database, puts HTTP Basic Auth on account creation, generates the credentials and secret, mounts persistent volumes and publishes the dashboard and event API over HTTPS on one domain.

What is Operational?

Operational is an open-source event tracking tool for monitoring signups, webhooks, cronjobs and similar events, with push notifications for critical events on your phone or in the web app. Your code sends events to its API and you read them in a dashboard that works as a progressive web app. A self-hosted Operational is an alternative to the hosted service run by upstream at operational.co. It is licensed AGPL-3.0.

On xCloud it is Operational 0.4.0, the upstream image pinned by digest, beside a private MySQL 8.2 database and a Caddy gateway. The dashboard sits on your domain and the event API under /_api/. The operational_mysql_data volume holds all application data. Upstream lets any visitor create an account, so the gateway asks for a generated setup password on account creation.

From Sign-Up to a Live Operational In Just 3 Easy Steps

Self-hosting Operational normally means wiring up MySQL, a gateway and a reverse proxy by hand before your code can send a single event. This is the same result without assembling any of it.

  1. Step 01

Create your xCloud account and pick Operational from the OneClick catalog. Optionally change the Setup Username (default admin) — xCloud generates the Setup Password for you.

  2. Step 02

    We Deploy It For You

One click. We bring up the pinned Operational 0.4.0 image alongside MySQL 8.2 and a Caddy gateway, mount the persistent database volume, and publish it over HTTPS on your domain.

  3. Step 03

    Start Using It

Open the HTTPS Operational URL, sign in with the Setup Username and Password to create your account, then copy the API key shown and send your first event to /_api/api/v1/log.

Everything Operational Does, On Your Own Server

Operational runs in full here — a self-hosted event tracker, on infrastructure you control.

  • Event Tracking From Your Own Code

Track signups, webhooks, cronjobs and other product events through a simple event API.

  • Push And Email Alerts

Get notified for critical events by push to your phone or the web app, or by email, once you add your own VAPID keys or mail settings.

  • Events-In-Events And Webhook Buttons

Add context to complex events with events nested inside events, and trigger webhooks directly from action buttons.

  • Installable As A PWA

Install Operational as a progressive web app for checking events on the go.

  • Protected Account Creation

Account creation is gated by a generated Setup Username and Password, so strangers cannot create accounts on your instance.

  • Backed By A Persistent Volume

All application data lives on the operational_mysql_data volume, which survives an xCloud Restart.

Everything You Need To Run Your Event Monitoring 24/7

Managed hosting for Operational, so the parts that keep it online are not your problem.

  • Operational 0.4.0 deployed instantly
  • MySQL 8.2 database included
  • Caddy gateway protects account setup
  • Generated Setup Password
  • Free SSL certificate
  • Scheduled Docker backups
  • Server security updates included
  • 30+ server locations
  • Unused balance refunded

What You Can Do With Operational

  • Get a phone alert when someone signs up

Send an event from your signup code and receive a push notification on your phone or in the web app, so a founder sees new customers the moment they arrive.

  • Watch payments and failures from your code

Log payments, errors and other critical events from your own backend, then read them in one dashboard instead of searching application logs for the moment something went wrong.

  • Know when a scheduled job runs

Have a cronjob or webhook report an event when it finishes, so a missed run shows up as a gap in the dashboard rather than a customer complaint.

  • Trigger a webhook from an event

Add action buttons to an event so a webhook fires on demand, letting you respond to a critical event from your phone without opening a terminal.

Operational vs Alternatives

Hosted event monitoring
Upstream also runs a hosted service at operational.co. Self-hosting Operational keeps events, accounts and the MySQL database on a server you control, and you manage the notifications yourself.
Healthchecks
Healthchecks has its own OneClick page. In an Operational vs Healthchecks comparison, Operational tracks product events such as signups and errors, with context, push alerts and webhook action buttons.
ntfy
ntfy has its own OneClick page. Operational is not a push relay: it is a dashboard of events your code sends, which can notify your phone as a progressive web app.
Uptime Kuma
Uptime Kuma has its own OneClick page. It checks whether services are up; Operational records what your own code reports, such as signups, payments and cronjob runs.

See why agencies, developers, startups, and growing businesses choose xCloud to power their projects.

xCloud works really well, I am surprised by its performance being this the release version, I have tried many paid platforms such as runcloud, cloudpages or serveravatar, as well as free platforms such as CyberPanel, CloudPanel or Hestia Control Panel and direct competitors such as SpinupWP and FlyWP. Of all those that I have tried, the platform that works best for WordPress is SpinupWP and I believe that xCloud can reach and surpass that development, its roadmap is promising. Congratulations to the xCloud team, I hope they become the leading platform in the segment, it has all the potential to achieve it!
Brian Geovanny
I've been with runcloud for the last 3 years. However, after trying xcloud for the last month, I'm switching over. They are on a roll with their setup.

I'm moving my servers to xCloud, a cloud control panel by M Asif Rahman and the WPDeveloper team. Their roadmap looks interesting and no, there are no team mates nor API limits with xCloud! #xCloud #wordpress #hosting

xCloud is like having an expert server team on call — without the big agency costs. It's given me back my time and given my clients peace of mind. Highly recommended for freelancers and small teams who want reliable performance and security.

xCloud isn't just a solution. It's like one of that friend who got your back when you screw things up pretty bad.

Trust me when I say, once people explore the potential of xCloud they gonna switch from other panels, just keep delivering the best tech, lots of love for the team 😍😍

So far my experience has been smooth like silk. I didn't imagine that configuring and managing a VPS would be so easy. As of today, I have deployed 8 sites. The support is good, and they treat users with respect, even if they ask stupid questions (myself included). For the future, I hope for greater flexibility in scheduled backups and more comprehensive and consistent documentation. I'm sure that within a few months, xCloud will become the leader in its segment. This community is amazing, and the Staff here is super helpful.

Came from cloudways then to runcloud then to xcloud. Looks like I'm staying here.

I've recently taken all of my Vultr-hosted sites and gotten rid of cPanel for them to substitute it with xCloud. I have to say, I'm really impressed with xCloud so far! The interface is definitely the standout feature for me.
Tony Lewis
I came from Cloudways and won't go back. Highly impressed with xCloud. Glad I gave them a chance.
Jared McDowell
I like xCloud better than RunCloud, but one thing I'll point out is that some years ago RunCloud was hungry for business, the support was outstanding, and the community was active and helped each other. Maybe it was sold, there was a change in management, or they stopped being hungry, but the quality of the RunCloud offering declined and it hasn't been moving forward quickly. My point is that currently the xCloud team has the edge and it is theirs to keep or lose

Dear xCloud Team, I have been using xCloud for some time now and am genuinely impressed with its capabilities and the flexibility it offers by allowing users to bring their own VPS for management. It's a fantastic service, and my experience so far has been very positive. Successful migrated 5 sites on a single server. Xcloud migration tool worked great. There were few hiccups with security plugin like MalCare but disabling the plugin prior to migration worked just fine.

Frequently Asked Questions

Feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns you may have.

How much RAM does Operational need?

The template floor is 1024 MB of RAM, 1 CPU core and 5 GB of disk, covering the app, the Caddy gateway and MySQL 8.2. The 6 GB plan sits well above that floor, leaving room for a growing event history.

Can you self-host Operational with Docker?

Yes, and this template is operational docker hosting without the setup: the upstream image, MySQL 8.2 and a Caddy gateway pinned by digest, three named volumes, a generated secret and database credentials, and the dashboard and API on one HTTPS domain.

What events can Operational track?

Upstream describes signups, webhooks, cronjobs and similar events, and your own code sends them to the event API at /_api/ using the API key shown after you create an account. Critical events can trigger push notifications.

How do I create an account on Operational?

Open your HTTPS URL and use the setup screen. Operational has no admin and would let any visitor register, so the gateway makes your browser prompt for the setup username and generated password first. Login and event sending are unaffected.

Does Operational send push and email notifications?

Not out of the box. Push needs a VAPID key pair set in the Environment editor, and email needs Resend or SMTP settings. Without a mail provider, emails, including activation codes, are written to files inside the container.

Is Operational free?

Yes. Operational is released under AGPL-3.0, so running it costs nothing in licence fees. Your bill is the Cloud VPS, making this an Operational cloud install of your own, separate from the hosted service upstream runs at operational.co.

How do I back up Operational?

Back up the operational_mysql_data volume, which holds all application data, by stopping the stack first or using mysqldump through docker exec. The operational_private and operational_public volumes hold only emails and uploaded files.

How do I upgrade Operational?

The install stays on its pinned 0.4.0 image until you adopt a newer template version. Dump MySQL first. Nothing upgrades by itself, and a redeploy keeps the volumes, so your events and accounts remain in place.

Are Operational container logs safe to share?

No. The container log prints the database URL and the signing secret on every start, so keep it private. If logs ever leak, rotate the secret in the Environment editor, which signs every user out.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
