What is PowerSync?

PowerSync Service is the server-side component of the PowerSync sync engine. It keeps a client-side SQLite database in sync with a backend database, so changes propagate across users and devices in real time and apps keep working offline. Upstream lists Postgres, MongoDB and MySQL replication modules, with client SDKs for web, mobile and desktop. A self-hosted PowerSync is an offline-first sync service on your own server. It is licensed FSL-1.1-ALv2, which is not an open-source licence.

On xCloud it is PowerSync Service v1.26.1, upstream's image pinned by digest, as a single API-only container with no dashboard and no local volume. You provide the replication database, the storage database for durable sync state and your sync rules; clients connect with JWTs from your own auth provider once the JWKS URI and audience are set.

How much RAM does PowerSync need?

The template floor is 1024 MB of RAM, 1 CPU core and 1 GB of disk; QA measured about 100 to 400 MiB in use. The 6 GB plan is well above that. Your replication and storage databases run elsewhere and are sized separately.

Can you self-host PowerSync with Docker?

Yes, and this template is powersync docker hosting without the setup: upstream's service image pinned by digest, configuration generated from your install values at each start, an API token and HTTPS on your own domain. It keeps no local volume.

Which databases does PowerSync support?

Upstream lists Postgres, MongoDB and MySQL replication modules. This template accepts PostgreSQL, MySQL or MongoDB as the replication source, and PostgreSQL or MongoDB for storage. PostgreSQL replication needs logical replication enabled on the source.

How do client apps authenticate with PowerSync?

With JWTs signed by your own auth provider. Set the Client Auth JWKS URI and the audience your tokens carry, then redeploy. Clients cannot connect until both are set. Admin API calls need the generated API token instead.

Does PowerSync have a dashboard?

No. This deployment is the API and WebSocket service only, with no web interface. You administer it through the HTTP API with the generated token and change settings in the Environment editor, then Save and redeploy.

Is PowerSync free?

The software has no fee to run, but PowerSync is licensed FSL-1.1-ALv2, not an open-source licence, and it restricts competing use. Review it before offering PowerSync as a hosted or resale service. This is a self-hosted PowerSync cloud install of your own.

How do I back up PowerSync?

There is no local volume. Durable sync state lives in the external storage database you supply, so back that up, and keep the API token with your deployment settings. Your replication database stays the source of application data.

How do I upgrade PowerSync?

The install stays on its pinned v1.26.1 image until you adopt a newer template version. Read the upstream release notes and back up the storage database first. Nothing upgrades on its own, and a redeploy regenerates the configuration.

Is PowerSync an alternative to custom sync code?

For many apps, yes. Upstream describes a service that keeps client SQLite in sync with a backend database, with SDKs and sync rules. You still run the service, the databases and the auth provider yourself.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
