Rackpad Hosting Live In 5 Minutes

Deploy Rackpad hosting and keep your homelab or small datacenter inventory on your own domain. xCloud runs the pinned Rackpad 1.8.3 image, mounts a persistent volume for its SQLite database, creates the admin account with a generated password at first start and publishes the dashboard over HTTPS. Every page except the health check requires sign-in, so nobody else can claim the instance.

What is Rackpad?

Rackpad is a self-hosted infrastructure inventory and operations workspace for homelabs, small racks, network rooms and lab environments. Upstream says it brings racks, devices, ports, cables, networks and IPAM, storage, Wi-Fi, compute, discovery, monitoring, documentation and reports into one app, with admin, editor and viewer roles. Self-hosted Rackpad is the alternative to a spreadsheet of devices and addresses, under the MIT licence.

On xCloud it is Rackpad 1.8.3, the community image pinned by digest, as one container with an embedded SQLite database on the rackpad_data volume. A one-shot bootstrap container creates the admin account and exits. A secret key encrypts SNMP communities and controller credentials, so keep it. Container networking limits ARP and some ICMP discovery compared with bare metal.

From Sign-Up to a Live Inventory In Just 3 Easy Steps

A self-hosted Rackpad normally means pulling a pinned image, mounting a data volume, seeding an admin before anyone else can claim it, a domain and a certificate before the first rack. This is the same result without assembling any of it.

  1. Step 01

Create your xCloud account and pick Rackpad from the OneClick catalog. Choose your domain and target server — there are no extra fields to fill in, because xCloud generates the credentials.

  2. Step 02

    We Deploy It For You

One click. We bring up the Rackpad 1.8.3 image, pinned by immutable digest, mount the rackpad_data volume that holds the SQLite database, generate the admin password and secret key, run a one-shot bootstrap container that creates the admin account, and publish it over HTTPS on your domain.

  3. Step 03

    Build Your First Rack

Save the administrator password from the protected installation credentials, open your HTTPS Rackpad URL and sign in as admin. Then create your first rack and add devices to it.

Everything Rackpad Does, On Your Own Server

Rackpad runs in full here: one Node process serving the API and web interface, with an embedded SQLite database and no extra services to run.

  • Racks And Devices

Dense rack elevations let you place devices by rack unit, so the physical layout of a rack is documented in one place.

  • Ports And Cables

Switch-panel port maps and full cable patching record what is plugged into what.

  • Networks And IPAM

VLANs, subnets, DHCP zones and reservations, and multi-IP device records live alongside the hardware they belong to.

  • Monitoring And Alerts

Per-device ICMP, TCP, HTTP/HTTPS and SNMP health checks, with email, Discord and Telegram alerting configured inside Rackpad.

  • WiFi And Documentation

Track WiFi controllers, SSIDs, access points and clients, and keep markdown documentation with images next to the inventory.

  • Roles And Optional OIDC

Session-based sign-in with admin, editor and viewer roles. Optional OIDC sign-in can be configured through the app's environment settings.

What You Can Do With Rackpad

  • Document a rack unit by unit

Record racks, devices, switch ports and cables in dense elevations and port maps, so you know what plugs into what.

  • Plan networks and addresses

Keep VLANs, subnets, DHCP zones and reservations in one place, with multi-IP device records.

  • Watch device health

Run per-device ICMP, TCP, HTTP, HTTPS or SNMP checks and get email, Discord or Telegram alerts when something fails.

  • Write down how the lab works

Keep markdown documentation and images next to the devices they describe, for the next person who touches the rack.

Rackpad vs Alternatives

Spreadsheets
A spreadsheet holds device and address lists but has no rack elevations, port maps, cable patching or health checks. Rackpad keeps them in one app on your own server.
NetBox
NetBox has its own OneClick page. Rackpad runs as a single container with an embedded SQLite database and is aimed at homelabs, small racks and network rooms.
phpIPAM
phpIPAM has its own OneClick page. Rackpad keeps its VLANs, subnets and DHCP reservations next to racks, cables, storage and health checks in one app.
Homebox
Homebox has its own OneClick page. Rackpad is built around network equipment, with switch-panel port maps, cable patching and VLANs.

Hear what people are saying about us

See why agencies, developers, startups, and growing businesses choose xCloud to power their projects.

xCloud works really well, I am surprised by its performance being this the release version, I have tried many paid platforms such as runcloud, cloudpages or serveravatar, as well as free platforms such as CyberPanel, CloudPanel or Hestia Control Panel and direct competitors such as SpinupWP and FlyWP. Of all those that I have tried, the platform that works best for WordPress is SpinupWP and I believe that xCloud can reach and surpass that development, its roadmap is promising. Congratulations to the xCloud team, I hope they become the leading platform in the segment, it has all the potential to achieve it!
Brian Geovanny
I've been with runcloud for the last 3 years. However, after trying xcloud for the last month, I'm switching over. They are on a roll with their setup.

I'm moving my servers to xCloud, a cloud control panel by M Asif Rahman and the WPDeveloper team. Their roadmap looks interesting and no, there are no team mates nor API limits with xCloud! #xCloud #wordpress #hosting

xCloud is like having an expert server team on call — without the big agency costs. It's given me back my time and given my clients peace of mind. Highly recommended for freelancers and small teams who want reliable performance and security.

xCloud isn't just a solution. It's like one of that friend who got your back when you screw things up pretty bad.

Trust me when I say, once people explore the potential of xCloud they gonna switch from other panels, just keep delivering the best tech, lots of love for the team 😍😍

So far my experience has been smooth like silk. I didn't imagine that configuring and managing a VPS would be so easy. As of today, I have deployed 8 sites. The support is good, and they treat users with respect, even if they ask stupid questions (myself included). For the future, I hope for greater flexibility in scheduled backups and more comprehensive and consistent documentation. I'm sure that within a few months, xCloud will become the leader in its segment. This community is amazing, and the Staff here is super helpful.

Came from cloudways then to runcloud then to xcloud. Looks like I'm staying here.
Gerson El
I've recently taken all of my Vultr-hosted sites and gotten rid of cPanel for them to substitute it with xCloud. I have to say, I'm really impressed with xCloud so far! The interface is definitely the standout feature for me.
Tony Lewis
I came from Cloudways and won't go back. Highly impressed with xCloud. Glad I gave them a chance.
Jared McDowell
I like xCloud better than RunCloud, but one thing I'll point out is that some years ago RunCloud was hungry for business, the support was outstanding, and the community was active and helped each other. Maybe it was sold, there was a change in management, or they stopped being hungry, but the quality of the RunCloud offering declined and it hasn't been moving forward quickly. My point is that currently the xCloud team has the edge and it is theirs to keep or lose

Dear xCloud Team, I have been using xCloud for some time now and am genuinely impressed with its capabilities and the flexibility it offers by allowing users to bring their own VPS for management. It's a fantastic service, and my experience so far has been very positive. Successful migrated 5 sites on a single server. Xcloud migration tool worked great. There were few hiccups with security plugin like MalCare but disabling the plugin prior to migration worked just fine.

Frequently Asked Questions

Feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns you may have.

Can you self-host Rackpad with Docker?

Yes. Upstream supports Docker as its deployment, and this template is Rackpad Docker hosting assembled for you: the 1.8.3 image pinned by digest, a one-shot bootstrap that creates the admin, one rackpad_data volume and HTTPS. It is your own Rackpad cloud dashboard.

How much RAM does Rackpad need?

Rackpad needs only 256 MB RAM, 1 CPU core and 2 GB of disk, since Rackpad is one container with an embedded SQLite database. The 6 GB plan is the entry rung here, leaving plenty of room for a large inventory and monitoring checks.

Is Rackpad free?

Yes, under the MIT licence Rackpad costs nothing to run. xCloud bills the dedicated Cloud VPS beneath it, and that can be cancelled whenever you wish. Your inventory sits in a SQLite file on a volume you control.

How do I sign in to Rackpad?

Use the username admin and the generated password from the installation credentials. The account is created automatically on first start, and sign-in is required for every page and API route except the health check. Change the password inside Rackpad after your first sign-in.

Can someone else claim the Rackpad admin account first?

No. A bootstrap container creates the admin account on first start, using the generated password, so there is no open signup window to race. ADMIN_PASSWORD only creates the account while the database has no users, so editing it later changes nothing.

Does Rackpad network discovery work the same as on bare metal?

Not entirely. The container has no raw-network privileges and does not share the host network, so ARP scans and some ICMP checks may find less than on a bare-metal install. Racks, devices, ports, cables, IPAM, VLANs and Wi-Fi records are not affected.

Which monitoring checks does Rackpad support?

Upstream lists per-device ICMP, TCP, HTTP, HTTPS and SNMP v1, v2c and v3 checks, with email, Discord and Telegram alerting. The SNMP trap receiver is switched off and not published in this template, so only the checks that poll devices are in use.

Does Rackpad support OIDC sign-in?

Upstream lists optional OIDC. This template documents the optional OIDC settings in the app's environment file but configures none, so add a complete provider setup there yourself. Extra hostnames and browser origins go in EXTRA_TRUSTED_HOSTS and EXTRA_TRUSTED_ORIGINS.

Why must I keep the Rackpad secret key?

RACKPAD_SECRET_KEY encrypts the SNMP communities and controller credentials you save, such as for Proxmox, UniFi, Omada or OPNsense. Change or remove it and those stored values become unreadable. Keep a copy with your backups, and never rotate it.

How do I back up Rackpad?

Back up the rackpad_data volume, which holds the SQLite database, and keep the secret key with it, because the database stores values encrypted by that key. Stop the app before copying for a consistent file, and try a restore once before you rely on it.

How do I upgrade Rackpad?

The install stays on pinned 1.8.3 until you adopt a newer template version. Consult the upstream release notes first, back up rackpad_data, then redeploy and check sign-in and a device. Existing sites are never upgraded automatically.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
