Rote Hosting Live In 5 Minutes

Deploy Rote hosting and keep a private place to capture quick thoughts on your own domain. xCloud runs the pinned Rote v2.6.0 web app and API with a private PostgreSQL database, creates the administrator account at first boot with a generated password, mounts a persistent volume and publishes both over HTTPS — notes stay in a database you own.

What is Rote?

Rote is an open-source personal note-taking repository for capturing quick thoughts. Upstream describes it as an elegant, restrained note-taking experience with an open API, so notes can be recorded or fetched from any scenario, and with self-hosting so you keep control of your own data.

The frontend and backend are separate services, and Rote stores its data in PostgreSQL. It is released under the MIT licence, and upstream also publishes an iOS app that can connect to a self-hosted backend.

From Sign-Up to Your First Note In Just 3 Easy Steps

A Rote stack normally means a frontend, an API, a PostgreSQL database, an administrator seed, two domains and certificates before the first note. This is the same result without assembling any of it.

  1. Step 01

Create your xCloud account and pick Rote from the OneClick catalog. Choose the web app domain, enter the administrator email and map the API domain.

  2. Step 02

    We Deploy It For You

One click. We bring up the official Rote frontend and backend images, pinned by immutable digest, with a private PostgreSQL (pgvector) database that has no host port, mount the rote_postgres_data volume, generate the passwords, create the owner account and publish the web app and API over HTTPS.

  3. Step 03

    Sign In And Write

First boot takes about a minute. Open your HTTPS Rote URL, sign in as owner with the generated password from the credentials card and create your first note.

Everything Rote Does, On Your Own Server

Rote runs in full here: a quick-capture notes web app and its API on your own domains, backed by a database you own.

  • Quick-Capture Notes

A web app built for jotting down thoughts with little friction, with tags to organise them afterwards.

  • Open API

Upstream exposes an open API for recording or reading notes from other tools, served from its own HTTPS domain on this install.

  • Passkey Sign-In

Passkeys are supported, tied to the web app address you choose at install — so pick the domain you plan to keep.

  • Public Note Sharing

Mark a note public when you want to share it; anyone with the link can read it. Everything else stays private.

  • Markdown Articles

Upstream supports standalone articles that notes can reference, for longer writing alongside quick notes.

  • Optional S3 Attachments

Connect your own S3-compatible bucket in the Rote admin settings to store files and images; without one, Rote stores text notes only.

Everything You Need To Run Your Notes App 24/7

Managed hosting for Rote, so the parts that keep it online are not your problem.

  • Rote v2.6.0 deployed instantly
  • Official images pinned by digest
  • Admin account created at first boot
  • Private PostgreSQL, no public port
  • Free SSL certificate
  • Server backups and snapshots
  • Server security updates included
  • 30+ server locations
  • Unused balance refunded

What You Can Do With Rote

  • A private place for quick thoughts

Capture ideas, snippets and reminders in a web app you host yourself, on a domain you control.

  • Notes that other tools can write to

Use the open API to send or read notes from scripts and integrations instead of copying them by hand.

  • Sharing a note without sharing the rest

Make a single note public for a link, while every other note stays private to your account.

  • Keeping your notes portable

Upstream's pitch is no data hostage: your notes sit in a PostgreSQL volume you can back up and move.

See why agencies, developers, startups, and growing businesses choose xCloud to power their projects.

xCloud works really well, I am surprised by its performance being this the release version, I have tried many paid platforms such as runcloud, cloudpages or serveravatar, as well as free platforms such as CyberPanel, CloudPanel or Hestia Control Panel and direct competitors such as SpinupWP and FlyWP. Of all those that I have tried, the platform that works best for WordPress is SpinupWP and I believe that xCloud can reach and surpass that development, its roadmap is promising. Congratulations to the xCloud team, I hope they become the leading platform in the segment, it has all the potential to achieve it!

I've been with runcloud for the last 3 years. However, after trying xcloud for the last month, I'm switching over. They are on a roll with their setup.

I'm moving my servers to xCloud, a cloud control panel by M Asif Rahman and the WPDeveloper team. Their roadmap looks interesting and no, there are no team mates nor API limits with xCloud! #xCloud #wordpress #hosting

xCloud is like having an expert server team on call — without the big agency costs. It's given me back my time and given my clients peace of mind. Highly recommended for freelancers and small teams who want reliable performance and security.

xCloud isn't just a solution. It's like one of that friend who got your back when you screw things up pretty bad.

Trust me when I say, once people explore the potential of xCloud they gonna switch from other panels, just keep delivering the best tech, lots of love for the team 😍😍

So far my experience has been smooth like silk. I didn't imagine that configuring and managing a VPS would be so easy. As of today, I have deployed 8 sites. The support is good, and they treat users with respect, even if they ask stupid questions (myself included). For the future, I hope for greater flexibility in scheduled backups and more comprehensive and consistent documentation. I'm sure that within a few months, xCloud will become the leader in its segment. This community is amazing, and the Staff here is super helpful.

Came from cloudways then to runcloud then to xcloud. Looks like I'm staying here.

I've recently taken all of my Vultr-hosted sites and gotten rid of cPanel for them to substitute it with xCloud. I have to say, I'm really impressed with xCloud so far! The interface is definitely the standout feature for me.
Tony Lewis
I came from Cloudways and won't go back. Highly impressed with xCloud. Glad I gave them a chance.
Jared McDowell
I like xCloud better than RunCloud, but one thing I'll point out is that some years ago RunCloud was hungry for business, the support was outstanding, and the community was active and helped each other. Maybe it was sold, there was a change in management, or they stopped being hungry, but the quality of the RunCloud offering declined and it hasn't been moving forward quickly. My point is that currently the xCloud team has the edge and it is theirs to keep or lose

Dear xCloud Team, I have been using xCloud for some time now and am genuinely impressed with its capabilities and the flexibility it offers by allowing users to bring their own VPS for management. It's a fantastic service, and my experience so far has been very positive. Successful migrated 5 sites on a single server. Xcloud migration tool worked great. There were few hiccups with security plugin like MalCare but disabling the plugin prior to migration worked just fine.

Frequently Asked Questions

Feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns you may have.

How do I sign in?

Use the username owner and the generated password shown on the installation credentials card. The administrator account is created at first boot with the email you entered at install.

Can strangers register?

No. Open registration is off. You can allow it in the Rote admin settings if you want other people to sign up.

What runs alongside Rote?

A web frontend, the Rote API and a private PostgreSQL (pgvector) database with no host port. The web app and the API each get their own HTTPS domain, and the API domain must be mapped for the web app to work.

Why does the first open take a minute?

First boot creates the database, runs migrations and creates the administrator account, which takes about a minute. The page may show an error until it finishes.

Can anyone read my notes?

Only notes you mark public can be read by anyone with the link. Everything else needs a signed-in account.

Can I store images and files?

Attachments need an external S3-compatible bucket (S3, R2, MinIO and similar) entered in the Rote admin settings; the bucket needs browser CORS for your web app address and a public URL prefix. Without it Rote stores text notes only.

What should I back up?

The rote_postgres_data volume (notes, users and settings) and the stable environment values. Keep the generated passwords private.

What happens if I change the web app domain?

The web app address is the permanent identity for passkeys, sign-in redirects and share links. Changing it breaks registered passkeys, so choose the domain you plan to keep. The API domain can change freely.

Can I change the administrator password by editing the install settings?

No. The first-boot administrator values are applied once; changing them later has no effect. Keep the password from the credentials card and change it inside Rote.

Does xCloud automatically back up or update Rote?

No. The template pins the Rote frontend and backend by immutable digest; new installations use the pinned release, existing sites are not automatically upgraded. Back up first, read the upstream release notes, then bump the frontend and backend tags and digests together on your own schedule. Server-level backups and snapshots are available on every Cloud VPS.

What are the server requirements, and why does this page sell 6 GB?

The template's baseline asks for 1 CPU core, 512 MB of RAM and 5 GB of disk; measured idle use in QA was about 110 MiB. This page sells the 6 GB tier as the entry rung, with real headroom above that baseline.

What survives a restart?

Notes on the rote_postgres_data volume — in QA, notes created before an xCloud Restart were still listed after signing in again, because it is a persistent named volume.

Is xCloud officially partnered with Rote?

No. No official partnership or endorsement between xCloud and the Rote project has been verified. This is a deployment and server-management option for the open-source Rote project.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
