What is Rotki?

Is Rotki free?

Yes — Rotki is free and open source under the GNU Affero General Public License v3 (AGPL-3.0). What you pay xCloud for is the dedicated server it runs on and the management around it, not the software itself.

Can I self-host Rotki?

Yes — that is exactly what this template deploys. It brings up the official all-in-one Rotki image pinned by immutable digest, mounts three persistent volumes, and publishes it over HTTPS on your domain in minutes instead of assembled by hand.

Who becomes the administrator, and how do I sign in?

Nobody is pre-created. Open the generated HTTPS URL after installation and create your first local Rotki account yourself, choosing your own password — that account is the one you sign in with going forward. xCloud generates no application-login credential for this app.

What does xCloud configure automatically?

The pinned Rotki container, its three persistent volumes (data, logs and configuration), a stable 64-character session-signing key, secure cookies configured to work behind xCloud's HTTPS proxy, the domain and the HTTPS route. Account creation itself happens entirely inside Rotki.

Does Rotki need a separate database?

No. Rotki's official all-in-one image manages local account databases internally — there is no separate PostgreSQL or MySQL container to run or expose.

What should I back up?

rotki_data, rotki_logs and rotki_config together: rotki_data holds your user databases and portfolio state, rotki_logs holds retained application logs, and rotki_config holds any administrator configuration overrides. Also use Rotki's own supported export flows for a portable off-server copy.

Backups in xCloud

Does xCloud automatically back up or update Rotki?

No. The template pins Rotki by immutable image digest; a catalog re-sync affects new installations only. Before changing the pin, back up all three volumes together, review Rotki's release notes and migration guidance, update the image, then verify sign-in, portfolio loading, connected accounts and manual balances.

What are the server requirements, and why does this page sell 16 GB?

The template manifest asks for 4096 MB of RAM, two CPU cores and 10 GB of disk as a starting floor. Per xCloud's own sizing rule, a 4 GB-and-up manifest floor sells the 16 GB tier rather than the entry 6 GB box, which would leave too little headroom once the OS is running — and larger portfolios, more history, more connected exchanges/chains and background accounting work can need more still.

What survives a restart?

Everything on rotki_data, rotki_logs and rotki_config, because all three are persistent named volumes. Restarting the container does not touch your account, portfolio data or logs — but keep the generated session key stable, since changing it invalidates existing browser sessions.

Should I use real portfolio data while testing?

No — validate a new installation with synthetic data first. Never publish real portfolio, exchange, tax or API-key data in screenshots or support requests.

Can I change my domain later?

Yes — nothing in Rotki's own configuration is tied to the domain the way some apps' public origin is. Update your HTTPS route to the new domain and sign back in as usual.

Is xCloud officially partnered with Rotki?

No. No official partnership or endorsement between xCloud and Rotki has been verified. This is a deployment and server-management option for the open-source Rotki project.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
