Starbase 80 Hosting Live In 5 Minutes

Deploy Starbase 80 hosting and give your services a fast homepage on your own domain. xCloud runs the pinned Starbase 80 1.6.7 image as a single container served by nginx, mounts persistent volumes for your link list and custom icons, and publishes the page over HTTPS in minutes — there is no database and no account to set up.

What is Starbase 80?

Starbase 80 is an open-source homepage for Docker containers or any services and links. It renders a clean grid of categorised tiles from a simple JSON list, with no actual integration with Docker, so it only shows the links you give it. Upstream says it loads instantly and that dark mode follows your OS.

It is inspired by Ben Phelps' Homepage and Umbrel. When you change the config JSON you restart the container and refresh, because the static page is rebuilt on start. It is licensed under MIT.

From Sign-Up to a Live Start Page In Just 3 Easy Steps

Self-hosting a start page normally means a container, a config file, an icon folder, a reverse proxy, a domain and a certificate before the first link appears. This is the same result without assembling any of it.

  1. Step 01

Create your xCloud account and pick Starbase 80 from the OneClick catalog. Choose your domain and target server, then set the page title (it defaults to Starbase 80).

  2. Step 02

    We Deploy It For You

One click. We bring up the official Starbase 80 image, pinned by immutable digest, as a single container with no database, mount the starbase_config and starbase_icons volumes, and publish it over HTTPS on your domain. The first start rebuilds the static page and can take one to two minutes.

  3. Step 03

    Add Your Links

Open your HTTPS Starbase 80 URL — there is no username or password. Edit /app/src/config/config.json to replace the starter tile with your own categories and services, then Restart so the page rebuilds.

Everything Starbase 80 Does, On Your Own Server

Starbase 80 runs in full here: a static homepage of links and icons on your own domain, driven by a JSON list you control.

  • Categorised Links And Icons

A single homepage groups your self-hosted services or any URLs into categories, each tile with a name, a description and an icon.

  • Static And Instant

The page is generated as static output and served by nginx; upstream describes it as loading instantly.

  • Dark Mode That Follows Your OS

The theme follows the operating system by default, or you can force light or dark with the THEME environment value.

  • Four Icon Sources

Use Dashboard Icons names, Material Design icons with the mdi- prefix, selfh.st icons with the selfhst- prefix, or your own files from the icons volume.

  • Appearance Through Environment Values

Title, logo, header, category label size, colours, link behaviour and hover style are set through environment variables applied on every start.

  • Config That Survives Restarts

Your link list lives in config.json on the starbase_config volume and custom icons on starbase_icons; both survived an xCloud Restart in verification.

Everything You Need To Run Your Start Page 24/7

Managed hosting for Starbase 80, so the parts that keep it online are not your problem.

  • Starbase 80 1.6.7 deployed instantly
  • Official image pinned by digest
  • Persistent volumes for links and icons
  • Single container, no database
  • Free SSL certificate
  • Server backups and snapshots
  • Server security updates included
  • 30+ server locations
  • Unused balance refunded

What You Can Do With Starbase 80

  • One homepage for a homelab

Put every self-hosted service behind a single page of categorised tiles, so you stop remembering ports and subdomains.

  • A browser start page for any URLs

List the sites you open every day, not just self-hosted ones, and set it as the page new tabs open to.

  • A launcher without the overhead

Get a fast static page with no accounts, no database and no Docker socket to expose, just a JSON file and an icon folder.

  • A branded landing page for a team

Set your own title, logo, colours and hover style through environment values so the page matches how your team works.

Hear what people are saying about us

See why agencies, developers, startups, and growing businesses choose xCloud to power their projects.

xCloud works really well, I am surprised by its performance being this the release version, I have tried many paid platforms such as runcloud, cloudpages or serveravatar, as well as free platforms such as CyberPanel, CloudPanel or Hestia Control Panel and direct competitors such as SpinupWP and FlyWP. Of all those that I have tried, the platform that works best for WordPress is SpinupWP and I believe that xCloud can reach and surpass that development, its roadmap is promising. Congratulations to the xCloud team, I hope they become the leading platform in the segment, it has all the potential to achieve it!
Brian Geovanny
I've been with runcloud for the last 3 years. However, after trying xcloud for the last month, I'm switching over. They are on a roll with their setup.

I'm moving my servers to xCloud, a cloud control panel by M Asif Rahman and the WPDeveloper team. Their roadmap looks interesting and no, there are no team mates nor API limits with xCloud! #xCloud #wordpress #hosting

xCloud is like having an expert server team on call — without the big agency costs. It's given me back my time and given my clients peace of mind. Highly recommended for freelancers and small teams who want reliable performance and security.

xCloud isn't just a solution. It's like one of that friend who got your back when you screw things up pretty bad.

Trust me when I say, once people explore the potential of xCloud they gonna switch from other panels, just keep delivering the best tech, lots of love for the team 😍😍

So far my experience has been smooth like silk. I didn't imagine that configuring and managing a VPS would be so easy. As of today, I have deployed 8 sites. The support is good, and they treat users with respect, even if they ask stupid questions (myself included). For the future, I hope for greater flexibility in scheduled backups and more comprehensive and consistent documentation. I'm sure that within a few months, xCloud will become the leader in its segment. This community is amazing, and the Staff here is super helpful.
Massimo Villa
Came from cloudways then to runcloud then to xcloud. Looks like I'm staying here.
Gerson El
I've recently taken all of my Vultr-hosted sites and gotten rid of cPanel for them to substitute it with xCloud. I have to say, I'm really impressed with xCloud so far! The interface is definitely the standout feature for me.
Tony Lewis
I came from Cloudways and won't go back. Highly impressed with xCloud. Glad I gave them a chance.
Jared McDowell
I like xCloud better than RunCloud, but one thing I'll point out is that some years ago RunCloud was hungry for business, the support was outstanding, and the community was active and helped each other. Maybe it was sold, there was a change in management, or they stopped being hungry, but the quality of the RunCloud offering declined and it hasn't been moving forward quickly. My point is that currently the xCloud team has the edge and it is theirs to keep or lose

Dear xCloud Team, I have been using xCloud for some time now and am genuinely impressed with its capabilities and the flexibility it offers by allowing users to bring their own VPS for management. It's a fantastic service, and my experience so far has been very positive. Successful migrated 5 sites on a single server. Xcloud migration tool worked great. There were few hiccups with security plugin like MalCare but disabling the plugin prior to migration worked just fine.

Frequently Asked Questions

Feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns you may have.

What makes Starbase 80 different from a dashboard like Homepage?

It is a static page with no Docker integration: it only renders the links you list in JSON.

How do I sign in?

You don't. There is no login and no username or password; the installation credentials only show the site URL.

Is the page public?

Yes, by design. In verification, config.json was confirmed not to be served or editable over HTTP, but anyone with the URL can see the page, so avoid listing private URLs unless you add access control in front of it.

What runs alongside Starbase 80?

Nothing. It is a single container serving static files with nginx, published through xCloud-managed HTTPS, with no database.

How do I change the links?

Edit /app/src/config/config.json inside the running container and Restart the app; the page rebuilds on start. Invalid JSON stops the container on its next start, and the upstream example config contains placeholder http://localhost links that you should replace with your own.

Why don't my environment changes apply immediately?

Title, logo, header, colours and the other appearance values are applied when the container starts and rebuilds the page. Changing them does not rewrite config.json, so edit your links separately and Restart to apply either.

What should I back up?

The starbase_config volume (config.json with your categories and services) and the starbase_icons volume (custom icon files).

What survives a restart?

Your link list and custom icons: both volumes persisted across an xCloud Restart in verification.

Does xCloud automatically back up or update Starbase 80?

No. The template pins Starbase 80 1.6.7 by immutable digest; new installations use the pinned release and existing sites stay pinned until updated. Back up both volumes, read the upstream notes, bump the readable tag and digest together, then confirm your tiles still render. Server-level backups and snapshots are available on every Cloud VPS.

Does the site send an HSTS header?

No. HTTPS is provided by xCloud and the certificate is issued for your domain, but the site does not send an HSTS header.

What are the server requirements, and why does this page sell 6 GB?

The template's baseline asks for 1 CPU core, 512 MB of RAM and 2 GB of disk; measured idle use in QA was about 6 MB. The first start rebuilds the static page and can take one to two minutes. This page sells the 6 GB tier as the entry rung, with real headroom above that baseline.

Is xCloud officially partnered with Starbase 80?

No. No official partnership or endorsement between xCloud and the Starbase 80 project has been verified. This is a deployment and server-management option for the open-source Starbase 80 project.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
