Zen Notes hosting on xCloud lets you deploy Zen Notes, the self-hosted web edition of ZenNotes, a keyboard-first Markdown notes app that keeps notes as plain files, on your own domain. xCloud runs the pinned community image with a vault volume and a data volume, generates the access token and publishes it over HTTPS. There are no accounts: one shared token opens the whole vault.
ZenNotes is a keyboard-first, local Markdown notes app that keeps notes as ordinary .md files on disk rather than in a hidden database. It offers Vim motions, a command palette, edit, split and preview modes, math and Mermaid rendering, tasks, tags, daily notes, vault-wide search and compatibility with Obsidian-style vaults. The web edition runs from a Go server, so a self-hosted Zen Notes is a Markdown vault in your browser. It is MIT licensed.
On xCloud it is Zen Notes 2.69.1, the community image adibhanna/zennotes pinned by digest. The zennotes_vault volume holds the vault, mounted at /workspace, and zennotes_data holds settings. There are no user accounts, no registration and no sharing model: a generated access token signs a browser in, and anyone holding it can read, change and delete every note.
A self-hosted notes app normally means a container, volume ownership, a sign-in secret, a domain and a certificate before the first note. This is the same result without assembling any of it.
Step 01
Create your xCloud account and pick Zen Notes from the OneClick catalog. Choose your domain and target server — there are no extra fields to fill in.
Step 02
One click. We bring up the community Zen Notes image, pinned by immutable digest, with a helper that fixes volume ownership and a health-probe sidecar (neither publishes a port), mount the zennotes_vault and zennotes_data volumes, generate the access token, and publish it over HTTPS on your domain.
Step 03
Save the access token shown in the protected installation credentials and open your HTTPS Zen Notes URL. Sign in with the token, choose /workspace when the app offers to connect a vault, then create your first note.
The Zen Notes web app runs here in full: a Markdown vault and browser editor on your own domain, with your notes stored as files you can copy out.
Every note is a normal .md file inside the vault, not a row in a hidden database, so notes can be copied out and opened in any editor.
Write in a CodeMirror-based editor with live preview, or switch to split and preview modes. Preview renders GitHub-flavored Markdown, KaTeX math, Mermaid diagrams, callouts and footnotes.
Link notes with wiki links and follow backlinks between them, in the editor and in preview.
Search notes by title and path or search the text of the whole vault, and use the tags and tasks views to see what is open.
Optional daily and weekly notes can be switched on in Settings, with configurable folders and title patterns.
A random token generated at install is the only credential; requests without it get 401. There is no registration and no multi-user model.
Managed hosting for Zen Notes, so the parts that keep it online are not your problem.
Write in Markdown with wiki links and tags, with every note stored as an ordinary file in the vault volume, so you can read or copy them without the app.
Use Vim motions, leader keys and a command palette in the web editor, so a keyboard-driven workflow follows you onto any machine.
Point the app at a vault that already uses wiki links and image embeds, so notes written elsewhere keep working on your server.
Keep tasks, daily and weekly notes and quick captures in the same vault, so planning and reference notes sit together.

xCloud works really well, I am surprised by its performance being this the release version, I have tried many paid platforms such as runcloud, cloudpages or serveravatar, as well as free platforms such as CyberPanel, CloudPanel or Hestia Control Panel and direct competitors such as SpinupWP and FlyWP. Of all those that I have tried, the platform that works best for WordPress is SpinupWP and I believe that xCloud can reach and surpass that development, its roadmap is promising. Congratulations to the xCloud team, I hope they become the leading platform in the segment, it has all the potential to achieve it!
Brian GeovannyI've been with runcloud for the last 3 years. However, after trying xcloud for the last month, I'm switching over. They are on a roll with their setup.
Kevin PinedaI'm moving my servers to xCloud, a cloud control panel by M Asif Rahman and the WPDeveloper team. Their roadmap looks interesting and no, there are no team mates nor API limits with xCloud! #xCloud #wordpress #hosting
Leo KooHow Cloud Nine Web Elevated Client Experience While Streamlining Hosting Operations using xCloud
Ed EllinghamxCloud is like having an expert server team on call — without the big agency costs. It's given me back my time and given my clients peace of mind. Highly recommended for freelancers and small teams who want reliable performance and security.
Dumitru ButucelxCloud isn't just a solution. It's like one of that friend who got your back when you screw things up pretty bad.
Waqar AhmedTrust me when I say, once people explore the potential of xCloud they gonna switch from other panels, just keep delivering the best tech, lots of love for the team 😍😍
Rahul SinghSo far my experience has been smooth like silk. I didn't imagine that configuring and managing a VPS would be so easy. As of today, I have deployed 8 sites. The support is good, and they treat users with respect, even if they ask stupid questions (myself included). For the future, I hope for greater flexibility in scheduled backups and more comprehensive and consistent documentation. I'm sure that within a few months, xCloud will become the leader in its segment. This community is amazing, and the Staff here is super helpful.
Massimo VillaCame from cloudways then to runcloud then to xcloud. Looks like I'm staying here.
Gerson ElI've recently taken all of my Vultr-hosted sites and gotten rid of cPanel for them to substitute it with xCloud. I have to say, I'm really impressed with xCloud so far! The interface is definitely the standout feature for me.
Tony LewisI came from Cloudways and won't go back. Highly impressed with xCloud. Glad I gave them a chance.
Jared McDowellI like xCloud better than RunCloud, but one thing I'll point out is that some years ago RunCloud was hungry for business, the support was outstanding, and the community was active and helped each other. Maybe it was sold, there was a change in management, or they stopped being hungry, but the quality of the RunCloud offering declined and it hasn't been moving forward quickly. My point is that currently the xCloud team has the edge and it is theirs to keep or lose
David McCanHow Kevin Heinrichs Cut Hosting Costs by 84% While Running WooCommerce & Node.js Sites Efficiently
Kevin HeinrichsI had 150 sites on cloudways and am in the process of moving them to xcloud. Much faster and better priced.
Dan SpinozaDear xCloud Team, I have been using xCloud for some time now and am genuinely impressed with its capabilities and the flexibility it offers by allowing users to bring their own VPS for management. It's a fantastic service, and my experience so far has been very positive. Successful migrated 5 sites on a single server. Xcloud migration tool worked great. There were few hiccups with security plugin like MalCare but disabling the plugin prior to migration worked just fine.
Rahil MaknojiaCame from runcloud. Tried xcloud and never came back.

Very little: the template asks for 128 MB of RAM, 1 CPU core and 2 GB of disk, because it is one small server serving a vault of text files. The 6 GB plan leaves room for other apps.
Yes, and this template is zen notes docker hosting without the setup: the community image pinned by digest, the zennotes_vault and zennotes_data volumes, a generated access token and HTTPS on your own domain, with no database.
Enter the access token from your credentials. It is the only credential, and the server refuses to start without one. On first sign-in the app asks you to connect a vault; choose /workspace, the folder on the persistent volume.
Not safely. There are no accounts, no multi-user model and no sharing, and anyone with the token can read, change and delete every note. Keep the token private, and restrict who can reach the site.
Yes. Upstream says it works with Obsidian-style vaults, including root-level notes and image embeds. Put the vault files in the workspace volume, and keep a copy elsewhere while you test the match. Plugins from Obsidian are not part of it.
For a personal Markdown vault, yes. Upstream describes a keyboard-first notes app and makes no comparison with either. It has no team features, so it replaces neither for shared workspaces. Try it with a copy of your notes first.
Yes. ZenNotes carries the MIT licence and costs nothing to run. The Cloud VPS is your only bill, so this Zen Notes cloud install keeps every note as a file on a server you control.
Copy the zennotes_vault volume, which holds your notes as plain Markdown files, and zennotes_data, which holds settings. Because the notes are ordinary files, any file backup tool works. Keep the access token with the copy.
Zen Notes stays on its pinned 2.69.1 image until a newer template version is adopted. Copy both volumes beforehand and check the release notes. No upgrade is automatic, and redeploying keeps your vault in place.
Edit ZENNOTES_AUTH_TOKEN in the Environment editor and redeploy; it cannot be changed from inside the app. Leave ZENNOTES_BEHIND_TLS set to 1. Every browser signed in with the old token must sign in again. Plan it for a quiet moment.
Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
Connect your first server in minutes. No plan you have to grow into.
