What is IPFS (Kubo)?

Kubo is the reference implementation of IPFS, the content-addressed, peer-to-peer storage network. This template deploys a single Kubo v0.43.1 node with a read-only HTTPS gateway.

What is the license?

Kubo is dual-licensed MIT and Apache-2.0, per the LICENSE-MIT and LICENSE-APACHE files in the Kubo repository.

What runs alongside it?

Nothing. It is a single container; the management RPC API/WebUI stays inside the container network and is not published.

What does xCloud configure automatically?

The domain and the HTTPS route for the gateway. Swarm TCP and UDP ports are shown in the installation details, but opening them in your firewall is left to you.

Can visitors fetch anything from the IPFS network through my gateway?

No. By default the gateway serves only content stored on your node — it does not act as an open public gateway unless you set IPFS_GATEWAY_NO_FETCH to false.

Is there any sign-in?

No. The gateway has no sign-in — anyone with a CID can read it from this node, so do not store private data on it or use the domain for sessions or sign-ins.

What should I back up?

The ipfs_data volume — it holds the node's configuration, identity private key, blocks and datastore. Losing it gives the node a new peer ID and drops all pins.

Backups in xCloud

Does xCloud automatically back up or update IPFS?

No. The template pins Kubo v0.43.1 by immutable digest; a catalog re-sync affects new installations only. To upgrade, bump the readable tag and digest together after reading the upstream release notes.

Does disk use grow over time?

Yes. Garbage collection is off by default, so pinned and unpinned content stays until you unpin it and run ipfs repo gc — watch disk use on the server.

Do peers need access to my server?

Open the shown swarm TCP and UDP ports in your own firewall so other peers can connect; the platform does not open or close them for you. Without them the node still works for outbound fetches.

What are the server requirements?

The template manifest asks for 512 MB of RAM, 1 CPU core and 20 GB of disk as a floor. This page sells the 6 GB tier, comfortable headroom above that floor.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
