Deploy OwnTracks Frontend hosting and keep a private web map of your own phone's location history on your own domain. xCloud runs OwnTracks Frontend 2.15.3 together with OwnTracks Recorder 1.0.4, which stores the data, behind a login, generates the gateway password, mounts a persistent volume and publishes everything over HTTPS in minutes — no MQTT broker needed.
OwnTracks Frontend is a web interface for OwnTracks, built by the OwnTracks project as a Vue.js single page application. Upstream describes it as a more advanced interface than the basic pages the Recorder ships with, with live positions, location history, a heatmap and date, user and device filters in one place.
The map reads from an OwnTracks Recorder, a lightweight program that stores the location data posted by the OwnTracks iOS and Android apps in plain files and serves it through a REST API, without an external database. This template deploys both together.
A self-hosted location map normally means a web UI, a Recorder, a gateway that adds a login, a volume, a domain and a certificate before the first point appears. This is the same result without assembling any of it.
Step 01
Create your xCloud account and pick OwnTracks Frontend from the OneClick catalog. Choose your domain and target server — there are no extra fields to fill in, because xCloud generates the credentials.
Step 02
One click. We bring up the map UI and the OwnTracks Recorder, both official images pinned by immutable digest, behind an nginx Basic Auth gateway, mount the owntracks_store volume that holds the Recorder's data, generate a 32-character gateway password and publish only the gateway over HTTPS on your domain.
Step 03
Save the gateway username and password from the installation credentials and open your HTTPS map URL. In the OwnTracks phone app set Mode to HTTP, URL to https://your-domain/pub, turn Authentication on with the same login, and set a User ID and Device ID. Send a location and it appears on the map.
The OwnTracks map runs in full here, together with the Recorder that stores your locations, on one HTTPS domain you control.
The map shows each device's last known position, with an accuracy circle and details such as time, battery and speed when the phone reports them.
View stored points as data points, a line or both, switch to a heatmap, and limit the view to a date and time range, a user or a single device.
Upstream calculates the distance travelled for the locations shown on the map.
The OwnTracks apps send locations over HTTP to /pub on your own domain, so there is no MQTT broker to run or maintain.
An nginx Basic Auth gateway protects the map, the Recorder API and /pub with a username and a password generated at install. Requests without or with a wrong password get 401 on every route except the health check.
The Recorder's location files, last-known-location files and geo-cache live in the owntracks_store volume, and history survived a container restart in verification.
Managed hosting for OwnTracks Frontend, so the parts that keep it online are not your problem.
Open one HTTPS page to see recent positions and past routes for the devices you track, with live updates over a websocket.
Locations go from the phone app to your own domain and into a volume you control, instead of to a third-party tracking service.
The gateway login protects the whole site, and each phone uses its own User ID and Device ID so its data is stored under its own name.
Three small containers and no MQTT broker; idle use was about 12 MiB on QA.

xCloud works really well, I am surprised by its performance being this the release version, I have tried many paid platforms such as runcloud, cloudpages or serveravatar, as well as free platforms such as CyberPanel, CloudPanel or Hestia Control Panel and direct competitors such as SpinupWP and FlyWP. Of all those that I have tried, the platform that works best for WordPress is SpinupWP and I believe that xCloud can reach and surpass that development, its roadmap is promising. Congratulations to the xCloud team, I hope they become the leading platform in the segment, it has all the potential to achieve it!
Brian GeovannyI've been with runcloud for the last 3 years. However, after trying xcloud for the last month, I'm switching over. They are on a roll with their setup.
Kevin PinedaI'm moving my servers to xCloud, a cloud control panel by M Asif Rahman and the WPDeveloper team. Their roadmap looks interesting and no, there are no team mates nor API limits with xCloud! #xCloud #wordpress #hosting
Leo KooHow Cloud Nine Web Elevated Client Experience While Streamlining Hosting Operations using xCloud
Ed EllinghamxCloud is like having an expert server team on call — without the big agency costs. It's given me back my time and given my clients peace of mind. Highly recommended for freelancers and small teams who want reliable performance and security.
Dumitru ButucelxCloud isn't just a solution. It's like one of that friend who got your back when you screw things up pretty bad.
Waqar AhmedTrust me when I say, once people explore the potential of xCloud they gonna switch from other panels, just keep delivering the best tech, lots of love for the team 😍😍
Rahul SinghSo far my experience has been smooth like silk. I didn't imagine that configuring and managing a VPS would be so easy. As of today, I have deployed 8 sites. The support is good, and they treat users with respect, even if they ask stupid questions (myself included). For the future, I hope for greater flexibility in scheduled backups and more comprehensive and consistent documentation. I'm sure that within a few months, xCloud will become the leader in its segment. This community is amazing, and the Staff here is super helpful.
Massimo VillaCame from cloudways then to runcloud then to xcloud. Looks like I'm staying here.
Gerson ElI've recently taken all of my Vultr-hosted sites and gotten rid of cPanel for them to substitute it with xCloud. I have to say, I'm really impressed with xCloud so far! The interface is definitely the standout feature for me.
Tony LewisI came from Cloudways and won't go back. Highly impressed with xCloud. Glad I gave them a chance.
Jared McDowellI like xCloud better than RunCloud, but one thing I'll point out is that some years ago RunCloud was hungry for business, the support was outstanding, and the community was active and helped each other. Maybe it was sold, there was a change in management, or they stopped being hungry, but the quality of the RunCloud offering declined and it hasn't been moving forward quickly. My point is that currently the xCloud team has the edge and it is theirs to keep or lose
David McCanHow Kevin Heinrichs Cut Hosting Costs by 84% While Running WooCommerce & Node.js Sites Efficiently
Kevin HeinrichsI had 150 sites on cloudways and am in the process of moving them to xcloud. Much faster and better priced.
Dan SpinozaDear xCloud Team, I have been using xCloud for some time now and am genuinely impressed with its capabilities and the flexibility it offers by allowing users to bring their own VPS for management. It's a fantastic service, and my experience so far has been very positive. Successful migrated 5 sites on a single server. Xcloud migration tool worked great. There were few hiccups with security plugin like MalCare but disabling the plugin prior to migration worked just fine.
Rahil MaknojiaCame from runcloud. Tried xcloud and never came back.

Gary MoodyxCloud gave me what no other hosting platform could: the flexibility of a VPS with the convenience of managed WordPress. As a solo founder running an entire business on one server, that combination is an important unfair advantage.
Jorge de los Reyes MartínezI use Server Avatar and xCloud and I'll sooner use xCloud than Server Avatar personally.

Use the gateway username (owntracks) and the generated password shown in the installation credentials. The map and the Recorder have no accounts of their own.
In the OwnTracks app set Mode to HTTP, set the URL to https://your-domain/pub, turn Authentication on with the same gateway login, and set a User ID and Device ID. Send a location and it appears on the map.
An OwnTracks Recorder that stores the data and an nginx gateway that enforces the login. Neither needs an MQTT broker, and only the gateway is published; the map UI and Recorder are internal-only.
The map shows nothing until the first location arrives. Post one from the OwnTracks app and it appears for that user and device.
No. This install runs HTTP-only and has no MQTT broker. The OTR_PORT=0 and OTR_HTTPHOST=0.0.0.0 values must stay as they are, otherwise the Recorder exits on start or the map cannot reach it.
The password is rebuilt from the Environment on each start, so a change takes effect after Save & Redeploy. Update the phone app to the new password too, and keep it stable otherwise because it protects the whole site and the app.
The owntracks_store volume, which holds all location history, plus the stable .env values. The map UI is stateless.
Data on the owntracks_store volume. Location history was still present after a container restart in verification, because it is a persistent named volume.
Verification noted two harmless items: /config/config.js and /locales/en.json return 500 from the upstream image, and the map falls back to defaults. The platform also does not set the HTTP Strict-Transport-Security header.
No. The template pins OwnTracks Frontend 2.15.3 and OwnTracks Recorder 1.0.4 by immutable digest; new installations use the pinned releases, existing sites are not automatically upgraded. Back up first, read the upstream release notes, then bump the readable tags and digests together on your own schedule. Server-level backups and snapshots are available on every Cloud VPS.
The template's baseline asks for 1 CPU core, 128 MB of RAM and 5 GB of disk; measured idle use in QA was about 12 MiB. This page sells the 6 GB tier as the entry rung, which is the smallest Cloud VPS in the OneClick plan family.
OwnTracks Frontend is MIT licensed. The OwnTracks Recorder repository's license file is not an SPDX-recognised licence; see its LICENSE for the terms.
No. No official partnership or endorsement between xCloud and the OwnTracks project has been verified. This is a deployment and server-management option for the open-source OwnTracks software.
Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
Connect your first server in minutes. No credit card required, and no plan you have to grow into.
