What is pgweb?

pgweb is a simple, web-based and cross-platform PostgreSQL database explorer. Upstream describes a Go program distributed as a single binary with zero dependencies, offering multiple database sessions, custom SQL queries you can execute and analyze, query history, bookmarks and exports to CSV, JSON and XML. Self-hosted pgweb is the browser-based alternative to a desktop database client, released under the MIT licence.

The whole interface sits behind HTTP basic authentication for the username admin with a generated password, over HTTPS on your domain. Can you self-host pgweb with Docker?

Yes. Upstream publishes a Docker image, and this template is pgweb Docker hosting with the wiring done: the 0.17.0 image pinned by digest, basic-auth login, port 8081 kept behind xCloud nginx and HTTPS. It is your own pgweb cloud console on a dedicated server, with no volume to manage.

How much RAM does pgweb need?

The template declares 1 CPU core with 512 MB of memory and 2 GB of disk for the pgweb container. The 6 GB plan is the entry rung here, so the console can share a server with the other tools you run beside it.

Is pgweb free?

Yes, pgweb uses the MIT licence and carries no fee. The Cloud VPS hosting it is the only charge, cancellable any time. PostgreSQL servers you connect to are billed wherever they already run, so adding pgweb does not change what you pay for them.

Does pgweb include a PostgreSQL server?

No. pgweb is a client. Connect it to a PostgreSQL server that is reachable from this xCloud server, keep that server's firewall restrictive, require TLS where it is supported, and use a least-privilege role rather than a superuser.

How do I sign in to pgweb?

Open your HTTPS address and sign in as admin with the generated password from the installation credentials. That basic-auth login guards the whole interface. To rotate it, update PGWEB_AUTH_PASS in the Environment editor and redeploy; open database sessions disconnect and must be reconnected.

Which export formats does pgweb support?

Upstream lists exports of table and query data to CSV, JSON and XML. They run from the browser against whichever connected database you are working in, so the file contains whatever your role is allowed to read. Treat downloads as sensitive.

Why did my pgweb sessions disappear after a restart?

pgweb keeps active database sessions in process memory, with no volume behind it. An xCloud Restart or a redeploy disconnects them, so reconnect after the app returns. The login survives, because it lives in the environment.

How do I back up pgweb?

There is no pgweb volume to back up. Back up each connected PostgreSQL database with its own tooling and keep tested copies off the server. Keep the generated login password with your environment values, since pgweb itself stores no data.

How do I upgrade pgweb?

The install stays on pinned 0.17.0 until you adopt a newer template version. Read the upstream release notes first; there is no volume to lose, so a redeploy is quick. Existing sites are never upgraded automatically.

Can I run other apps on the same server?

Yes. pgweb is one small container on a dedicated Cloud VPS, so you can deploy other OneClick apps or your own sites beside it, including a PostgreSQL server, as long as the memory and disk are there.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
