What is ProjectSend?

Self-hosted ProjectSend is a client file sharing portal for getting files to the people you work with. Upstream's README says you upload what you want to send, choose exactly who can see it, and each client signs in to a private page to download it, with no public link passed around and no per-seat pricing. It is a self-hosted alternative to services such as Dropbox and WeTransfer, and it is available under GPL v2 or later.

On xCloud the template runs the ProjectSend Community 2.3.0 image, pinned by digest, with private MySQL 8.4 and Redis 7 containers. Three named volumes hold uploads and the app key, the database and Redis. Client self-registration is off, and SMTP is not configured, so invitations and password resets wait until you set mail up in System Settings.

Is ProjectSend free?

Yes. ProjectSend is available under GPL v2 or any later version, free of charge, and this template runs the Community release, so the portal software carries no fee. xCloud bills for the dedicated Cloud VPS. Upstream also offers a second licence, which this template does not use.

Can I run ProjectSend with Docker?

Yes, and this template does it for you: the official projectsend 2.3.0 image with private MySQL 8.4 and Redis 7 containers, all pinned by digest, and three named volumes behind HTTPS. It is ProjectSend Docker hosting without writing the compose file.

How much RAM does a ProjectSend cloud server need?

Allow 1024 MB of RAM, 1 CPU core and 10 GB of disk at the very least for a ProjectSend cloud portal; the 6 GB Cloud VPS sold here is well above that. Disk is what grows with uploads, and per-client storage quotas help keep it in check.

Can clients download several files as a zip in ProjectSend?

Yes. Upstream says clients can download one file, several as a zip, or a whole folder from their private area, search, filter and sort their files, and optionally comment on a file. Each client sees only what has been shared with them.

Does ProjectSend support two-factor authentication?

Upstream says clients sign in with an email address, with optional two-factor authentication, and that LDAP and social sign-in are also available. This template configures none of those for you, so enable them inside ProjectSend if you need them.

Can clients register themselves in ProjectSend?

No. Client self-registration is not enabled by this template. Administrators create and manage every client account from inside ProjectSend, then assign files to them. That keeps the portal private by default, and invitation emails wait for SMTP to be configured.

How do I back up ProjectSend?

Take one backup of projectsend_storage and projectsend_db at the same recovery point, and keep projectsend_redis with them. The storage volume holds uploads and the persisted app key, whose loss can make encrypted SMTP or LDAP settings unreadable. Use a consistent MySQL dump.

How do I update ProjectSend?

Updates are deliberate. The template pins ProjectSend, MySQL and Redis by immutable digest, and a catalogue re-sync affects new installs only. You upgrade by adopting a newer xCloud template version: back up the volumes first, read the upstream release and migration notes, then check login, client creation, upload and download.

How do I sign in to ProjectSend for the first time?

Open your HTTPS URL and sign in with the administrator email you entered and the generated password in your credentials. Rotate that bootstrap password from the account settings straight away. Then configure SMTP in System Settings before sending invitations or password resets.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
