What is SABnzbd?

SABnzbd is an open-source Usenet download manager. It handles queueing, categories, history and automated post-processing, so NZB files you give it are downloaded and unpacked without manual steps. A self-hosted SABnzbd runs on a server instead of your desktop, and the project is released under the GPL-2.0-or-later licence. The 5.1.1 to 5.1.3 releases fixed several security issues, which the release notes say matter mostly if the interface or the NZB sources are untrusted.

On xCloud the template runs SABnzbd 5.1.3 as the LinuxServer image pinned by digest, which the SABnzbd project documents but does not build. Config sits on sabnzbd_config, finished files on sabnzbd_downloads and in-progress files on sabnzbd_incomplete_downloads. A disabled placeholder server is created, and no Usenet provider is bundled.

Is SABnzbd free?

Yes. SABnzbd is GPL-2.0-or-later software. The Cloud VPS is the bill from xCloud, while access to Usenet is sold by a provider you choose separately, which this template does not supply, so budget for that separately.

How much RAM does SABnzbd need?

The manifest asks for 2 CPU cores, 2048 MB of RAM and 20 GiB of disk plus space for downloads. Unpacking and repair use CPU, and disk use depends on queue size and retention, so size the server for the files you plan to keep.

Can you self-host SABnzbd with Docker?

Yes, and this template is SABnzbd Docker hosting without the setup: the LinuxServer 5.1.3 image pinned by digest, a generated login and independent API and NZB keys, three named volumes and HTTPS on your domain, with no added capabilities or Docker socket.

Do I need a Usenet provider for SABnzbd?

Yes. None is bundled and the template sends no test traffic. Sign in, open Config then Servers, edit the disabled Add your Usenet provider placeholder with your provider's credentials, and enable it before adding an NZB.

How do I change the SABnzbd password or API key?

Inside SABnzbd. The generated username, password and keys are used only when /config is first initialised; later changes survive restarts, but editing the template environment does not rotate them, so change them in the app's own settings.

Is SABnzbd secure to expose to the internet?

Keep the login on. The 5.1.1 to 5.1.3 release notes fixed several vulnerabilities and say the web interface issues matter if untrusted parties can reach it, and download issues matter if you process NZBs from a source you do not trust.

How do I back up SABnzbd?

Back up sabnzbd_config, sabnzbd_downloads and sabnzbd_incomplete_downloads together while SABnzbd is stopped, so queue and history metadata match the files. Restore all three into an isolated install and test with a harmless NZB before you put it back in service.

How do I upgrade SABnzbd?

The install stays on SABnzbd 5.1.3 until you adopt a newer template version. Stop writes, back up all three volumes, read every SABnzbd and LinuxServer release note in between, and test on a restored copy. Nothing upgrades the app automatically.

What survives a restart in SABnzbd?

Everything on the three named volumes: your settings, history, finished files and partial downloads. Restarting the container leaves them in place, so a queue resumes from where it stopped once the provider connection is back.

Is there a SABnzbd cloud service I can use?

This page is your own SABnzbd cloud: a dedicated Cloud VPS running the open-source downloader, with settings and files on volumes of your own. Nobody else shares the queue, and your Usenet account stays yours.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
