What is Slink?

Slink is a free, open-source, self-hosted image-sharing service with browser uploads, collections, expiring or password-protected share links, and user approval. This template deploys version 1.13.1.

Is Slink free?

Yes — it is free and open source under the GNU Affero General Public License v3 (AGPL-3.0). What you pay xCloud for is the dedicated server it runs on and the management around it, not the application itself.

Can I self-host Slink?

Yes — that is exactly what this template deploys. It brings up the upstream Slink 1.13.1 image pinned by immutable digest, mounts its four persistent volumes and publishes it over HTTPS on your domain in minutes instead of assembled by hand.

How do I sign in?

With the administrator username and email you enter at install time, plus a 24-character password xCloud generates and shows once in your credential panel. That account is created during first boot.

Can I change the administrator password later?

Yes, but change it inside Slink itself. Editing the ADMIN_PASSWORD environment value after first boot does not rotate the existing account.

What does xCloud configure automatically?

The administrator account, all four persistent volumes, the domain and the HTTPS route. Only Slink's web interface is published through xCloud-managed ingress.

Can anyone sign up and start uploading?

Registration is open, but every new account needs administrator approval before it can upload. Guest and unauthenticated uploads are disabled by default.

Is there an upload size limit?

Yes. The template sets Slink's own application limit to 15 MB. xCloud's proxy is configured to allow at least that size, so a rejected upload above 15 MB is Slink's own limit, not xCloud's.

Can I use S3 or SMB storage instead of local disk?

Not in this baseline — it deploys with local persistent storage only. Slink supports S3-compatible and SMB providers, but switching requires separately managed storage, credentials and a coordinated migration that this template does not perform.

What should I back up?

All four volumes together, from the same window: slink_data (databases and app secrets), slink_images (original uploads), slink_cache (thumbnails and index state) and slink_jwt (JWT key material). Restoring only some of them can leave shares or authentication inconsistent.

Backups in xCloud

Does xCloud automatically back up or update Slink?

No. The template pins Slink 1.13.1 by immutable digest; a catalog re-sync affects new installations only. Review upstream release notes and take a coordinated backup of all four volumes before changing the pinned release.

What are the server requirements?

The template manifest asks for 1 GB of RAM, 1 CPU core and 10 GB of disk as a floor. This page sells the 6 GB tier, comfortable headroom above that floor with room left for your image library to grow.

Is xCloud officially partnered with Slink?

No. No official partnership or endorsement between xCloud and the Slink project has been verified. This is a deployment and server-management option for the open-source Slink project.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
