What is Slink?

Slink is a self-hosted image sharing platform built with Symfony and SvelteKit that gives you control over your media sharing. A self-hosted Slink keeps shares private by default, so access goes only to whoever holds the link, with optional passwords and expiry, and lets you group images into collections shared with one link. It is licensed under AGPL-3.0, and upstream suggests it for artists, developers and anyone who wants to control image privacy.

On xCloud the install runs Slink 1.13.1 as one container holding the web client, API, SQLite databases and supporting processes, pinned by digest. Four volumes hold state: slink_data, slink_images, slink_cache and slink_jwt. xCloud creates the administrator, guest uploads are off, and new registrations need approval before they can upload. Storage is local; S3 and SMB are not set up.

Can you self-host Slink with Docker?

Yes, and this template is Slink Docker hosting without the setup. Upstream is built for self-hosting; here xCloud runs the pinned anirdev/slink 1.13.1 image as one container, mounts four named volumes, creates the administrator and publishes HTTPS on your domain.

How much RAM does Slink need?

One container also runs Redis, Mercure and supporting processes, so the floor is 1024 MB of RAM, one CPU core and 10 GB of disk. The 6 GB plan is the entry rung here, with room for your image library.

How do I sign in to Slink?

With the administrator username and email you enter at install time, plus a 24-character password that xCloud generates and shows in your credentials panel. That account is created active on first boot, so you can sign in straight away.

Can anyone sign up and upload to my Slink server?

Registration is open, but every new account needs administrator approval before it can upload. Guest and unauthenticated uploads are disabled by default, and so is browsing without signing in. Review the registration settings after your first sign-in.

Is there an upload size limit in Slink?

Yes. The template sets Slink's own application limit to 15 MB. The xCloud proxy and any CDN in front of your domain must also allow the request size, so check both before raising the limit in the Environment editor.

Can I use S3 storage with Slink?

Upstream supports S3-compatible and SMB storage providers, but this template deploys with local persistent storage only. Switching needs separately managed storage, credentials and connectivity, and a coordinated move of existing images, so plan that before you start uploading.

What should I back up on a Slink server?

Back up all four volumes together from the same window: slink_data for databases and app secrets, slink_images for original uploads, slink_cache for thumbnails and slink_jwt for the key material. Stop writes first, and keep copies encrypted and off the server.

How do I upgrade Slink?

Slink 1.13.1 stays pinned until you move to a newer template version. Take a coordinated backup of all four volumes first and skim the project's notes. A running site never upgrades itself, and redeploying keeps the volumes.

Is Slink free?

Yes. Slink falls under the GNU AGPL-3.0, so the software is free of charge. Budget for the dedicated Cloud VPS instead, because its disk holds every original upload and should match the library you expect.

Can I change the Slink administrator password later?

Yes, but change it inside Slink itself. Editing the ADMIN_PASSWORD environment value after first boot does not rotate the existing account, so store the generated password in a password manager and update it in the app.

Is there a Slink cloud service?

Upstream runs a live demo, which is different. Your Slink here lives on a Cloud VPS prepared by xCloud, with originals and the database on volumes you own and approval of uploaders left to you.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
