What is TimeTagger?

TimeTagger is an open source time tracker whose tagline is tag your time, get the insight. Upstream describes a web-based solution aimed at individuals and freelancers, with an intuitive interface built around an interactive timeline and a lightweight feel from using tags rather than projects, plus powerful reporting. A self-hosted TimeTagger is licensed GPL-3.0.

On xCloud the template runs TimeTagger 26.1.3 from the official image, pinned by digest, as one container that keeps its data in SQLite files, with no separate database server or cache. Records for each user sit on the timetagger_data volume. The administrator credential is hashed from your username and password on every start, so rotating it in the Environment editor works after a restart. There is one administrator, and no SMTP or single sign-on is set up.

Is TimeTagger free?

Yes. TimeTagger is GPL-3.0 software with nothing to buy from the project. The Cloud VPS is the only line on the bill, and one lightweight Python service uses so little that other apps can share the machine.

How much RAM does TimeTagger need?

The manifest asks for 1 CPU core, 256 MB of RAM and 2 GB of disk, because TimeTagger is a single Python service with no separate database server. The 6 GB plan is far above that, which leaves most of the server free.

Can you self-host TimeTagger with Docker?

Yes, and this template is TimeTagger Docker hosting without the setup: the ghcr.io/almarklein/timetagger v26.1.3 image pinned by digest, a startup script that hashes your credential, one data volume and HTTPS on your domain, with no database server to look after.

How do I sign in to TimeTagger?

Use the administrator username you chose at install, admin by default, and the generated 24-character password or the one you supplied, both shown in your credentials panel. There is a single administrator, with no public registration.

Can I change the TimeTagger password?

Yes. Edit the administrator username or password in xCloud's Environment editor and restart. The bcrypt hash is recomputed from those values on every container start, so the change takes effect, unlike apps that fix the login on first boot.

Does TimeTagger support multiple users?

Not in this template. It is configured as a single-administrator instance, and no SMTP, single sign-on or multi-tenant setup is included. Upstream describes TimeTagger as aimed at individuals and freelancers, so plan around one login.

How do I back up TimeTagger?

Back up the timetagger_data volume, which holds all per-user records under /root/_timetagger. Restore the full volume before starting the matching image version, then check sign-in and a recent record. Nothing schedules the copy, so run it yourself and keep a copy off the server.

How do I upgrade TimeTagger?

The install stays on TimeTagger 26.1.3 until you adopt a newer template version. Take a complete volume backup and read the upstream notes first, and roll back the image with its matching backup if a migration is not backward-compatible.

What runs alongside TimeTagger?

Nothing. It is one container with no database server, cache or sidecar, publishing only the web interface over HTTPS. Everything the app stores lives in the single timetagger_data volume, which keeps backups and restores simple and quick.

Is there a TimeTagger cloud service I can use?

This page is your own TimeTagger cloud: a dedicated Cloud VPS running the open-source tracker, with your records on a volume of your own. No other tenant shares the server, and only you hold the administrator login.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
