Vykar hosting on xCloud lets you deploy Vykar as a backup server, a REST repository that Vykar clients back up to over HTTPS, on your own domain. xCloud serves the pinned official image with a persistent repository volume and a generated access token, so only clients holding the token can write. It is a backup target with no web interface, and upstream says Vykar should not yet be used for production backups.
Vykar is a fast, encrypted, deduplicated backup tool written in Rust and configured through a YAML file. It encrypts with AES-256-GCM or ChaCha20-Poly1305, deduplicates with content-defined chunking, supports local, S3-compatible, SFTP and REST backends, and its REST server adds append-only enforcement, quotas and server-side compaction. A self-hosted Vykar is an encrypted backup server on your own storage. It is GPL-3.0 licensed, and the README says it should not be used for production backups yet.
On xCloud it is Vykar 0.20.1, the official image pinned by digest, running only the REST backup server with the vykar_repo volume. There is no web interface and no accounts: every request except the health probe needs the generated token. Backup contents stay encrypted on the client, so the server never sees your passphrase, and platform backup is not available for this app.
A Vykar server normally means a container, a long random token, a data volume, a domain and a certificate before the first backup. This is the same result without assembling any of it.
Step 01
Create your xCloud account and pick Vykar from the OneClick catalog. Choose your domain and target server — there are no extra fields to fill in.
Step 02
One click. We bring up the official Vykar image, pinned by immutable digest, as a single container running the REST backup server, mount the vykar_repo volume at /repo, generate a 48-character access token, and publish it over HTTPS on your domain.
Step 03
Copy the repository URL and access token from the protected installation credentials. In your Vykar client configuration set the repository url and access_token, then run vykar init and vykar backup.
The Vykar REST backup server runs in full here: a token-protected repository endpoint on your own domain, storing data on a volume you own.
Vykar clients back up to the server over HTTPS using the repository URL and access token xCloud shows you after install.
Vykar encrypts with AES-256-GCM or ChaCha20-Poly1305 on the client, so the server holds neither the passphrase nor the key.
Vykar uses FastCDC content-defined chunking to deduplicate data, with LZ4 or Zstandard compression.
Add the --append-only or --quota flags through VYKAR_SERVER_ARGS to reject deletes and overwrites or cap the storage the server uses.
Several machines can back up to the same repository at once; upstream serialises only the brief commit phase.
Every request except the health probe needs the generated bearer token; requests with no token or a wrong one are rejected with 401.
Managed hosting for Vykar, so the parts that keep it online are not your problem.
Point Vykar clients on laptops and servers at your repository URL, so several machines back up to one place that you own.
Start the server in append-only mode, which rejects deletes and overwrites, so a compromised client cannot erase older backups.
Set a quota on the server, so one client cannot fill the disk, and compact the repository on the server when space needs reclaiming.
Keep backups encrypted on the client, so the server holds only ciphertext and cannot restore anything without the client's passphrase.

xCloud works really well, I am surprised by its performance being this the release version, I have tried many paid platforms such as runcloud, cloudpages or serveravatar, as well as free platforms such as CyberPanel, CloudPanel or Hestia Control Panel and direct competitors such as SpinupWP and FlyWP. Of all those that I have tried, the platform that works best for WordPress is SpinupWP and I believe that xCloud can reach and surpass that development, its roadmap is promising. Congratulations to the xCloud team, I hope they become the leading platform in the segment, it has all the potential to achieve it!
Brian GeovannyI've been with runcloud for the last 3 years. However, after trying xcloud for the last month, I'm switching over. They are on a roll with their setup.
Kevin PinedaI'm moving my servers to xCloud, a cloud control panel by M Asif Rahman and the WPDeveloper team. Their roadmap looks interesting and no, there are no team mates nor API limits with xCloud! #xCloud #wordpress #hosting
Leo KooHow Cloud Nine Web Elevated Client Experience While Streamlining Hosting Operations using xCloud
Ed EllinghamxCloud is like having an expert server team on call — without the big agency costs. It's given me back my time and given my clients peace of mind. Highly recommended for freelancers and small teams who want reliable performance and security.
Dumitru ButucelxCloud isn't just a solution. It's like one of that friend who got your back when you screw things up pretty bad.
Waqar AhmedTrust me when I say, once people explore the potential of xCloud they gonna switch from other panels, just keep delivering the best tech, lots of love for the team 😍😍
Rahul SinghSo far my experience has been smooth like silk. I didn't imagine that configuring and managing a VPS would be so easy. As of today, I have deployed 8 sites. The support is good, and they treat users with respect, even if they ask stupid questions (myself included). For the future, I hope for greater flexibility in scheduled backups and more comprehensive and consistent documentation. I'm sure that within a few months, xCloud will become the leader in its segment. This community is amazing, and the Staff here is super helpful.
Massimo VillaCame from cloudways then to runcloud then to xcloud. Looks like I'm staying here.
Gerson ElI've recently taken all of my Vultr-hosted sites and gotten rid of cPanel for them to substitute it with xCloud. I have to say, I'm really impressed with xCloud so far! The interface is definitely the standout feature for me.
Tony LewisI came from Cloudways and won't go back. Highly impressed with xCloud. Glad I gave them a chance.
Jared McDowellI like xCloud better than RunCloud, but one thing I'll point out is that some years ago RunCloud was hungry for business, the support was outstanding, and the community was active and helped each other. Maybe it was sold, there was a change in management, or they stopped being hungry, but the quality of the RunCloud offering declined and it hasn't been moving forward quickly. My point is that currently the xCloud team has the edge and it is theirs to keep or lose
David McCanHow Kevin Heinrichs Cut Hosting Costs by 84% While Running WooCommerce & Node.js Sites Efficiently
Kevin HeinrichsI had 150 sites on cloudways and am in the process of moving them to xcloud. Much faster and better priced.
Dan SpinozaDear xCloud Team, I have been using xCloud for some time now and am genuinely impressed with its capabilities and the flexibility it offers by allowing users to bring their own VPS for management. It's a fantastic service, and my experience so far has been very positive. Successful migrated 5 sites on a single server. Xcloud migration tool worked great. There were few hiccups with security plugin like MalCare but disabling the plugin prior to migration worked just fine.
Rahil MaknojiaCame from runcloud. Tried xcloud and never came back.

The template floor is 256 MB of RAM, 1 CPU core and 20 GB of disk, because the REST server is a small Rust service. Disk is what matters, since every client's encrypted backups are stored in the repository volume.
Yes, and this template is vykar docker hosting without the setup: the official image pinned by digest, running the REST backup server, a vykar_repo volume, a generated access token and HTTPS on your own domain.
Set the repository url in the client configuration to your HTTPS address and access_token to the token from your credentials, then run vykar init and vykar backup. Behind Cloudflare, set max_pack_size to 64 MiB or lower.
Upstream's README says it should not be used for production backups yet, but to test it alongside other backup tools. Keep a second backup method for important data, test restores and read the release notes before each upgrade.
Upstream lists AES-256-GCM or ChaCha20-Poly1305 with Argon2id key derivation. Encryption happens on the client, so the server cannot read your data, and without the repository passphrase the backups are unreadable. Keep the passphrase somewhere safe.
It covers the same job and lists both as inspirations, but it uses its own format and is not compatible with their repositories. Upstream's speed claims are its own benchmarks, and the project is still young.
Yes. Vykar is open source under the GPL-3.0 licence, so the software has no licence fee. You pay only for the Cloud VPS and its disk, which makes this a Vykar cloud install of your own.
Copy the vykar_repo volume off the server regularly, because platform backup and restore are not available for this app. The data is encrypted by clients, so also keep every client's passphrase safe; the server cannot restore for you.
Vykar stays on its pinned 0.20.1 image until you adopt a newer template version. Copy the vykar_repo volume off the server first and check the release notes for any format changes. Upgrades never run automatically.
Yes. Add --append-only to VYKAR_SERVER_ARGS in the Environment editor, which rejects deletes and overwrites. It also blocks client-side prune and compact, so you reclaim space from the server side instead. Test it with a throwaway client first.
Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
Connect your first server in minutes. No plan you have to grow into.
