WebSSH Hosting Live In 5 Minutes

Deploy WebSSH hosting and reach your servers from any browser, with nothing to install on the laptop in front of you. xCloud runs the pinned WebSSH 2.5.0 image as a single container, creates the administrator from the username you choose and a generated password, mounts two persistent volumes and publishes it over HTTPS on your own domain.

What is WebSSH?

WebSSH is a browser-based SSH terminal and SFTP file manager. Its README describes saved connections and SSH keys kept encrypted, persistent tmux sessions on targets that have tmux, and multi-user accounts with an Admin panel, optional two-factor authentication and audit export. Self-hosted WebSSH is a web SSH client you run yourself, under the MIT licence, so reaching a server does not depend on a desktop client.

On xCloud it is WebSSH 2.5.0 as a single container pinned by immutable digest, running in the production profile. Public sign-up is off; the administrator is created once from the username you choose and a generated password. WebSSH is a gateway: anyone who signs in can open SSH and SFTP sessions from the server to public addresses, and SSH to private, loopback and link-local addresses is blocked.

From Sign-Up to a Live WebSSH In Just 3 Easy Steps

A browser SSH gateway normally means a container, a secret key for the stored connections, a first administrator, persistent storage, a domain and a certificate before the first login. This is the same result without assembling any of it.

  1. Step 01

Create your xCloud account and pick WebSSH from the OneClick catalog. Choose your domain and target server, and set the Administrator Username (default admin).

  2. Step 02

    We Deploy It For You

One click. We start the community-built WebSSH image, pinned by digest, as a single container with webssh_data and webssh_recovery mounted, generate the administrator password and the secret key, and publish it over HTTPS.

  3. Step 03

Sign In And Add A Host

Open your HTTPS WebSSH URL and sign in with the administrator login from the installation credentials. Change the password in account settings, turn on two-factor authentication, then add your first saved connection under Hosts.

Everything WebSSH Does, On Your Own Server

WebSSH runs in full here: an SSH terminal and SFTP manager in the browser, behind your own domain and your own administrator login.

  • SSH Terminal In The Browser

Open SSH sessions from any browser, with no local client to install.

  • SFTP File Manager

Browse and transfer files on your servers from the same page. Single downloads are capped at 100 MiB by default.

  • Saved Connections And SSH Keys

Keep hosts and private keys under Hosts, stored encrypted with the install's generated secret key.

  • Persistent tmux Sessions

On targets that have tmux, sessions can persist, so a long job can keep running after you close the tab.

  • Multi-User Accounts

An Admin panel adds and manages users, with optional two-factor authentication and audit export. Public sign-up is turned off.

  • Admin Backup And Restore

The webssh_recovery volume is the staging area for the app's own admin backup and restore.

Everything You Need To Run Your SSH Gateway 24/7

Managed hosting for WebSSH, so the parts that keep it online are not your problem.

  • WebSSH 2.5.0 deployed instantly
  • Community-built image pinned by digest
  • Administrator password generated for you
  • Free SSL certificate
  • Database and keys on persistent volumes
  • Server backups and snapshots
  • Server security updates included
  • 30+ server locations
  • Unused balance refunded

What You Can Do With WebSSH

  • Reach servers from any browser

Open an SSH session from a machine where you cannot install a client.

  • Manage files over SFTP

Browse, upload and download files on a remote server from the same page as the terminal.

  • Give a team one SSH entry point

Add trusted colleagues as users from the Admin panel so they share one HTTPS address for their saved hosts.

  • Keep long jobs alive

Use persistent tmux sessions on targets that have tmux, so work carries on when you close the tab.

WebSSH vs Alternatives

Desktop SSH clients
PuTTY, Termius and similar clients are installed on each machine; WebSSH runs in the browser on your own domain, with saved connections stored encrypted on your server.
Apache Guacamole
Apache Guacamole has its own OneClick page. WebSSH here focuses on an SSH terminal and SFTP manager rather than a wider remote desktop gateway.
Termix
Termix has its own OneClick page. WebSSH here is a single container with saved hosts, SSH keys, tmux sessions and multi-user accounts; compare the two pages for scope.
Wetty
Wetty has its own OneClick page. This WebSSH template pairs the terminal with an SFTP file manager and an Admin panel for several users.
Sshwifty
Sshwifty has its own OneClick page. This WebSSH template keeps encrypted saved connections and user accounts on a persistent volume.

Hear what people are saying about us

See why agencies, developers, startups, and growing businesses choose xCloud to power their projects.

xCloud works really well, I am surprised by its performance being this the release version, I have tried many paid platforms such as runcloud, cloudpages or serveravatar, as well as free platforms such as CyberPanel, CloudPanel or Hestia Control Panel and direct competitors such as SpinupWP and FlyWP. Of all those that I have tried, the platform that works best for WordPress is SpinupWP and I believe that xCloud can reach and surpass that development, its roadmap is promising. Congratulations to the xCloud team, I hope they become the leading platform in the segment, it has all the potential to achieve it!
Brian Geovanny
I've been with runcloud for the last 3 years. However, after trying xcloud for the last month, I'm switching over. They are on a roll with their setup.

I'm moving my servers to xCloud, a cloud control panel by M Asif Rahman and the WPDeveloper team. Their roadmap looks interesting and no, there are no team mates nor API limits with xCloud! #xCloud #wordpress #hosting

xCloud is like having an expert server team on call — without the big agency costs. It's given me back my time and given my clients peace of mind. Highly recommended for freelancers and small teams who want reliable performance and security.

xCloud isn't just a solution. It's like one of that friend who got your back when you screw things up pretty bad.

Trust me when I say, once people explore the potential of xCloud they gonna switch from other panels, just keep delivering the best tech, lots of love for the team 😍😍

So far my experience has been smooth like silk. I didn't imagine that configuring and managing a VPS would be so easy. As of today, I have deployed 8 sites. The support is good, and they treat users with respect, even if they ask stupid questions (myself included). For the future, I hope for greater flexibility in scheduled backups and more comprehensive and consistent documentation. I'm sure that within a few months, xCloud will become the leader in its segment. This community is amazing, and the Staff here is super helpful.

Came from cloudways then to runcloud then to xcloud. Looks like I'm staying here.
Gerson El
I've recently taken all of my Vultr-hosted sites and gotten rid of cPanel for them to substitute it with xCloud. I have to say, I'm really impressed with xCloud so far! The interface is definitely the standout feature for me.
Tony Lewis
I came from Cloudways and won't go back. Highly impressed with xCloud. Glad I gave them a chance.
Jared McDowell
I like xCloud better than RunCloud, but one thing I'll point out is that some years ago RunCloud was hungry for business, the support was outstanding, and the community was active and helped each other. Maybe it was sold, there was a change in management, or they stopped being hungry, but the quality of the RunCloud offering declined and it hasn't been moving forward quickly. My point is that currently the xCloud team has the edge and it is theirs to keep or lose

Dear xCloud Team, I have been using xCloud for some time now and am genuinely impressed with its capabilities and the flexibility it offers by allowing users to bring their own VPS for management. It's a fantastic service, and my experience so far has been very positive. Successful migrated 5 sites on a single server. Xcloud migration tool worked great. There were few hiccups with security plugin like MalCare but disabling the plugin prior to migration worked just fine.

Frequently Asked Questions

Feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns you may have.

Can I run WebSSH in Docker?

Yes, and this template is WebSSH Docker hosting without the setup: the community-built WebSSH 2.5.0 image pinned by digest as a single container, with two persistent volumes, a generated administrator password and HTTPS on your own domain.

How much RAM does WebSSH need?

The template baseline is 512 MB of RAM, 1 CPU core and 2 GB of disk; measured idle use in QA was about 132 MiB. The 6 GB plan is the starting point here, well above that baseline.

How do I sign in to WebSSH?

Use the administrator username you chose at install and the generated password shown in the installation credentials. The password is applied only on first start, so change it in account settings inside WebSSH, not in the environment editor.

Can other people register themselves?

No. Public sign-up is disabled. Add users from the Admin panel, and share logins only with people you trust, since anyone who signs in can open SSH and SFTP sessions from this server.

Can WebSSH reach servers on my private network?

No. SSH to private, loopback and link-local addresses is blocked. Targets must be reachable on a public address, and their firewall must allow the xCloud server's IP, because connections go out from this server.

Is WebSSH free?

Yes. WebSSH is open source under the MIT licence, so the software has no licence fee. You are billed only for the dedicated Cloud VPS that runs it.

How do I secure my WebSSH login?

Change the generated password in account settings and turn on two-factor authentication for the administrator. Keep SECRET_KEY unchanged: it encrypts saved keys and connections, and changing it makes them unreadable.

How do I back up WebSSH?

Back up both volumes, webssh_data (database, encrypted keys, logs and user files) and webssh_recovery, plus the stable .env values. Backups contain encrypted private keys, so store them securely. Nothing schedules the copy, so run it yourself.

How do I upgrade WebSSH?

The install stays on its pinned 2.5.0 image until you adopt a newer template version. Read the upstream release notes first and back up both volumes. Existing sites are never upgraded automatically.

Why does the log say no administrator account exists?

The startup log shows a cosmetic "No administrator account exists" warning even though the administrator login works. The account is created by a post-install step shortly after the first start, so allow about a minute.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
