XBackBone Hosting Live In 5 Minutes

Deploy XBackBone hosting and run your own file and screenshot sharing host on your own domain. xCloud runs the pinned XBackBone 3.8.2 container, creates the admin account with a generated password, keeps the SQLite database and uploads on a persistent volume and publishes it over HTTPS, with a 2 GB upload limit already set, so large files work. Self-registration is off by default.

What is XBackBone?

XBackBone is a simple, self-hosted, lightweight PHP file manager that supports the instant sharing tool ShareX and *NIX systems. Upstream lists web file upload, a config generator for ShareX, public and private uploads, a media web player and PDF viewer, code highlighting, multi-user roles with disk quotas, tags, LDAP authentication and several storage backends. Self-hosted XBackBone is the alternative to a hosted screenshot sharing service, under the AGPL-3.0 licence.

On xCloud it is XBackBone 3.8.2 from the LinuxServer image, pinned by digest, as one container running nginx, PHP-FPM and SQLite, with everything on the xbackbone_config volume. Anyone who has an upload link can view that file without signing in, so treat uploads as link-shared. XBackBone sends mail through PHP mail(), which the container cannot deliver, so reset and activation emails will not arrive.

From Sign-Up to a Live Upload Host In Just 3 Easy Steps

Self-hosting XBackBone normally means nginx, PHP-FPM, a database, an installer to finish, upload limits to raise, a domain and a certificate before the first screenshot. This is the same result without assembling any of it.

  1. Step 01

Create your xCloud account and pick XBackBone from the OneClick catalog. Choose your domain and target server — there are no extra fields to fill in.

  2. Step 02

    We Deploy It For You

One click. We bring up a single XBackBone container (nginx, PHP-FPM and SQLite in one image), pinned by immutable digest, mount the xbackbone_config volume, create the admin account with a generated password, and publish it over HTTPS on your domain. There is no web installer to complete.

  3. Step 03

Sign In And Create Your Upload Token

Open your HTTPS XBackBone URL and sign in as admin with the generated password from the protected credentials. Change the account email and password under your profile, then create your upload token for ShareX or the command-line client.

Everything XBackBone Does, On Your Own Server

XBackBone runs in full here: a multi-user upload host on your own domain, with its database and files on a volume you own.

  • ShareX And *NIX Uploads

Download a ShareX configuration from your profile page, or a per-user script that shares an item from any tool, including headless servers.

  • Multi-User Web UI

Administrators can add and remove users and edit per-user settings, and every user sees their own upload history.

  • Upload History And Search

Browse past uploads, search them, add tags and remove files in bulk from the web interface.

  • Public Or Hidden Uploads

You can hide or publish every upload; a hidden upload is visible only to you.

  • Optional Disk Quotas

Administrators can enable a per-user disk quota from the system page.

  • A 2 GB Upload Limit

The limit is set at both the xCloud proxy and PHP, so uploads over the usual 2 MB default work without editing a config file.

Everything You Need To Run Your File Sharing 24/7

Managed hosting for XBackBone, so the parts that keep it online are not your problem.

  • XBackBone 3.8.2 deployed instantly
  • Image pinned by immutable digest
  • Admin password generated for you
  • Kept behind xCloud nginx
  • Free SSL certificate
  • Server backups and snapshots
  • Server security updates included
  • 30+ server locations
  • Unused balance refunded

What You Can Do With XBackBone

  • Share screenshots from ShareX

Point ShareX at your own domain with the configuration file generated from your profile, so captures land on a server you run.

  • Send a large file by link

Upload a file up to 2 GB and share its link, with a preview page and a web player for video and audio.

  • Give a team their own space

Create users with roles and disk quotas so each person has an upload history and limits.

  • Keep some uploads private

Hide an upload so only you can see it, while others stay shareable by link.

XBackBone vs Alternatives

Hosted screenshot sharing services
A hosted service keeps your captures on a vendor's servers. Self-hosted XBackBone stores them in SQLite and a file volume on your own Cloud VPS, under your own domain.
Zipline
Zipline has its own OneClick page as another self-hosted upload server. XBackBone is the PHP option with a low memory footprint and a ShareX config generator.
Picsur
Picsur has its own OneClick page as an image-sharing service. XBackBone also hosts files, video, audio and code, not only images.
PicoShare
PicoShare has its own OneClick page as a minimal file sharing tool with one shared secret. XBackBone adds users, roles, quotas and upload history.

Hear what people are saying about us

See why agencies, developers, startups, and growing businesses choose xCloud to power their projects.

xCloud works really well, I am surprised by its performance being this the release version, I have tried many paid platforms such as runcloud, cloudpages or serveravatar, as well as free platforms such as CyberPanel, CloudPanel or Hestia Control Panel and direct competitors such as SpinupWP and FlyWP. Of all those that I have tried, the platform that works best for WordPress is SpinupWP and I believe that xCloud can reach and surpass that development, its roadmap is promising. Congratulations to the xCloud team, I hope they become the leading platform in the segment, it has all the potential to achieve it!
Brian Geovanny
I've been with runcloud for the last 3 years. However, after trying xcloud for the last month, I'm switching over. They are on a roll with their setup.
Kevin Pineda
I'm moving my servers to xCloud, a cloud control panel by M Asif Rahman and the WPDeveloper team. Their roadmap looks interesting and no, there are no team mates nor API limits with xCloud! #xCloud #wordpress #hosting

xCloud is like having an expert server team on call — without the big agency costs. It's given me back my time and given my clients peace of mind. Highly recommended for freelancers and small teams who want reliable performance and security.

xCloud isn't just a solution. It's like one of that friend who got your back when you screw things up pretty bad.

Trust me when I say, once people explore the potential of xCloud they gonna switch from other panels, just keep delivering the best tech, lots of love for the team 😍😍

So far my experience has been smooth like silk. I didn't imagine that configuring and managing a VPS would be so easy. As of today, I have deployed 8 sites. The support is good, and they treat users with respect, even if they ask stupid questions (myself included). For the future, I hope for greater flexibility in scheduled backups and more comprehensive and consistent documentation. I'm sure that within a few months, xCloud will become the leader in its segment. This community is amazing, and the Staff here is super helpful.

Came from cloudways then to runcloud then to xcloud. Looks like I'm staying here.
Gerson El
I've recently taken all of my Vultr-hosted sites and gotten rid of cPanel for them to substitute it with xCloud. I have to say, I'm really impressed with xCloud so far! The interface is definitely the standout feature for me.
Tony Lewis
I came from Cloudways and won't go back. Highly impressed with xCloud. Glad I gave them a chance.
Jared McDowell
I like xCloud better than RunCloud, but one thing I'll point out is that some years ago RunCloud was hungry for business, the support was outstanding, and the community was active and helped each other. Maybe it was sold, there was a change in management, or they stopped being hungry, but the quality of the RunCloud offering declined and it hasn't been moving forward quickly. My point is that currently the xCloud team has the edge and it is theirs to keep or lose

Dear xCloud Team, I have been using xCloud for some time now and am genuinely impressed with its capabilities and the flexibility it offers by allowing users to bring their own VPS for management. It's a fantastic service, and my experience so far has been very positive. Successful migrated 5 sites on a single server. Xcloud migration tool worked great. There were few hiccups with security plugin like MalCare but disabling the plugin prior to migration worked just fine.

Frequently Asked Questions

Feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns you may have.

Can you self-host XBackBone with Docker?

Yes. Upstream is a PHP application with documented installation, and this template is XBackBone Docker hosting already assembled: the LinuxServer 3.8.2 image pinned by digest, one config volume, a generated admin and HTTPS. It is your own XBackBone cloud file host, with no installer to run.

How much RAM does XBackBone need?

XBackBone lists 128 MB memory, 1 core and 5 GB storage, and measured idle use in QA was about 31 MiB. Our starting plan is 6 GB, which leaves plenty of room for uploads. Disk, not memory, is what uploads consume.

Is XBackBone free?

Yes, AGPL-3.0 open source with no software fee. xCloud bills the Cloud VPS and the disk it needs, cancellable whenever you wish. Uploads stay in a volume you control, with nothing held by a third party.

How do I sign in to XBackBone?

Use the username admin and the generated password shown in the protected installation credentials. The account email starts as [email protected]; change it and the password under your profile. There is no web installer, because the first start creates the admin account.

Does XBackBone work with ShareX?

Yes. Upstream supports every upload type from ShareX and offers a config generator, so you download a configuration from your profile and import it into ShareX. Linux and *NIX systems use a per-user generated script instead, with direct downloads by curl or wget.

What is the XBackBone upload limit?

2 GB, set at both the xCloud proxy and PHP. To change the PHP side, edit /config/php/php-local.ini on the xbackbone_config volume and restart. Very large uploads over slow links can still time out at the proxy, so test large uploads.

Who can see my XBackBone uploads?

Anyone who has an upload link can view that file without signing in, so treat uploads as link-shared. You can hide an upload so that only you can see it. Self-registration is off by default; enable it under the admin settings only if you want open sign-up.

Will XBackBone password-reset emails arrive?

No. XBackBone sends mail through PHP mail() and the container has no mail transport, so reset and activation emails are not delivered. Keep the admin password safe, and create users yourself from the admin area instead of relying on email activation.

What happens if I change the XBackBone domain?

XBackBone stores its base URL in config.php. After changing the site domain, edit base_url in /config/www/xbackbone/config.php to the new https address, or links and uploads keep pointing at the old domain. The environment value is read only on the first start.

How do I back up XBackBone?

Back up the xbackbone_config volume: it holds the SQLite database, uploaded files, config.php and the PHP and nginx overrides. Stop the container for a consistent database copy, keep the admin password, and test a restore on a spare install first.

How do I upgrade XBackBone?

The install stays on pinned 3.8.2 until you adopt a newer template version. Back up the config volume, skim upstream's release notes, then redeploy and check sign-in and an upload. Existing sites are never upgraded automatically, and sessions end when the container is recreated.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
