What is MyDrive?

MyDrive is an open-source cloud file storage server, described upstream as similar to Google Drive. You host it on your own server and reach it through a web browser. It uses MongoDB to store file and folder metadata, and it can keep the file data on the filesystem or on Amazon S3.

Upstream lists file and folder upload and download, a photo and video viewer with generated thumbnails, file sharing, AES256 encryption, PWA support and mobile support. It is licensed under GPL-3.0.

How do I sign in?

Use the owner email you entered at install and the generated owner password from the credentials panel.

Can other people register?

No. Sign-up is closed: the server rejects registration requests. Removing BLOCK_CREATE_ACCOUNT in the environment editor reopens it to anyone who can reach the site. The login page still shows a "Create account" link, but the server rejects the request.

What runs alongside MyDrive?

A private MongoDB 8.0 container that stores file and user metadata. It has no host ports and is reachable only inside the app's network.

What is the File Encryption Key and why does it matter?

Files are encrypted at rest with AES256 using a key generated at install and shown in the credentials panel. It is read on every start and cannot be rotated: losing or changing it makes every stored file unreadable, so keep a copy somewhere safe.

What should I back up?

The mydrive_data and mongo_data volumes together, plus the stable values in the environment file, including the File Encryption Key. The mydrive_temp volume is only scratch space for thumbnails.

Backups in xCloud

How large can an uploaded file be?

The proxy accepts uploads up to 5 GB per file. If your domain is proxied through Cloudflare, Cloudflare's per-request limit (about 100 MB on most plans) applies first.

Is email verification enabled?

No, it is off by default. To enable it, set every EMAIL_* variable and REMOTE_URL together with EMAIL_VERIFICATION=true in the environment editor.

Is there an administrator role?

No. MyDrive has no administrator role in this template: the owner account is created automatically on first start from the owner email and generated password. To change that account's password, do it inside MyDrive.

What survives a restart?

Files, folders and the owner login. In QA, an uploaded file matched its checksum after an xCloud Restart because the data sits on persistent named volumes.

Does xCloud automatically back up or update MyDrive?

No. The template pins MyDrive by immutable digest; new installations use the pinned release, existing sites are not automatically upgraded. Back up first, read the upstream release notes, then bump the image tag and digest together on your own schedule. Server-level backups and snapshots are available on every Cloud VPS.

What are the server requirements, and why does this page sell 6 GB?

The template's baseline asks for 1 CPU core, 512 MB of RAM and 10 GB of disk; measured idle use in QA was about 153 MiB. This page sells the 6 GB tier as the entry rung, with real headroom above that baseline and room for the files you store.

Is xCloud officially partnered with MyDrive?

No. No official partnership or endorsement between xCloud and the MyDrive project has been verified. This is a deployment and server-management option for the open-source MyDrive project.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
