What is OpenList?

OpenList is a self-hosted file listing program: it mounts many storage providers behind one web interface, and upstream's list includes local storage, S3, Google Drive, OneDrive, Dropbox, FTP/SFTP, SMB and WebDAV. A self-hosted OpenList gives you file preview, direct downloads, web upload and a WebDAV endpoint, so a Google Drive account and an S3 bucket can sit in one tree. It is a community-driven fork of AList under the AGPL-3.0 licence.

On xCloud the install runs OpenList v4.2.6 from the official image, pinned by immutable digest, as one container behind xCloud's nginx with HTTPS on your domain. The openlist_data volume holds the database, configuration, logs and any files stored on local disk; files on connected providers stay with those providers. xCloud generates the admin password and shows it once the install finishes.

Can you self-host OpenList with Docker?

Yes, and this template is OpenList Docker hosting without the setup: the official OpenList v4.2.6 image pinned by digest, one openlist_data volume, a generated admin password, and HTTPS on your domain. It runs as root so it can write to the data volume, as upstream's own compose file does.

How much RAM does OpenList need?

The template asks for 512 MB of RAM, 1 CPU core and 2 GiB of disk as a floor. The 6 GB plan is the entry rung here, which leaves headroom for many providers, previews and several people browsing at once.

Is OpenList the same as AList?

No, but they are closely related. OpenList is a community-driven fork of AList that keeps the same feature set and configuration model and follows the AGPL-3.0 license. Upstream also warns that similarly named third-party projects have no association with it.

Does OpenList support WebDAV?

Yes. Upstream lists WebDAV as a feature, and the template publishes it on the same domain as the web UI over HTTPS. WebDAV can also be added as a storage, so OpenList can both serve and mount WebDAV servers.

Which storage providers does OpenList support?

Upstream lists many: local storage, S3, Google Drive, OneDrive, Dropbox, FTP/SFTP, SMB, WebDAV, Azure Blob Storage, Mega.nz and others. Add them under Settings, Storage. Check the upstream list for any provider you depend on before relying on it.

How do I reset the OpenList admin password?

OPENLIST_ADMIN_PASSWORD only applies when OpenList first starts on an empty database. To rotate or recover it, run docker exec openlist-<site-name> ./openlist admin set 'NEW_PASSWORD' on the server, using the container name from the site overview.

Is there an upload size limit in OpenList?

OpenList itself does not cap uploads, but the xCloud proxy limits a single request body to 100 MB, so a larger web or WebDAV upload is rejected. Send big files straight to the connected provider using that provider's own client.

What should I back up on an OpenList server?

Back up the openlist_data volume: the database with accounts, storage configuration and share links, plus settings and logs. A Local Storage root must sit inside /opt/openlist/data to persist. Files on cloud providers stay with those providers. Stop the app before copying.

How do I upgrade OpenList?

The install stays on its pinned v4.2.6 image until you adopt a newer template version. Back up openlist_data first and read the upstream release notes, then confirm sign-in, storage providers and WebDAV still work. Existing sites are never upgraded automatically.

Is OpenList free?

Yes. OpenList is open source under AGPL-3.0, and upstream says it has no paid plans. The only recurring cost is the dedicated Cloud VPS it runs on, which makes this your own OpenList cloud with the data and accounts on your server.

Is there a hosted OpenList cloud?

Upstream says OpenList has no paid plans or commercial deployments, so there is no vendor-run service to sign up for. xCloud instead provisions a dedicated Cloud VPS and deploys the open-source container on it, so the data and accounts stay on your server.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
