What is Pydio Cells?
Pydio Cells is a secure file sharing, synchronization, workspace and collaboration platform. This template deploys the Community edition, version 5.0.2.
Is Pydio Cells free?
The Community edition this template deploys is free and open source under the GNU Affero General Public License v3. What you pay xCloud for is the dedicated server it runs on and the management around it, not the software itself.
Can I self-host Pydio Cells?
Yes — that is exactly what this template deploys. It brings up the official Pydio Cells image alongside a private PostgreSQL database, both pinned by immutable digest, mounts two persistent volumes and publishes it over HTTPS on your domain in minutes instead of assembled by hand.
Who becomes the administrator, and how do I sign in?
xCloud creates an admin account for you at install time. After installation, the credentials panel shows your Cells URL, the username admin, and a generated password — sign in with those and change the password from Cells' own account settings.
What does xCloud configure automatically?
A private PostgreSQL database with an isolated, generated database name, user and password, the admin account and password, both persistent volumes, the domain, and the HTTPS route. There are no installation-time fields to fill in beyond the site title and domain. Only Cells is published — PostgreSQL stays private on the internal network.
Is there an upload size limit?
Yes. xCloud's OneClick nginx proxy caps request bodies at 100 MB, so a single upload through the public HTTPS endpoint — browser or WebDAV — cannot exceed 100 MB. Larger transfers need splitting or a sync client capable of chunked uploads.
What should I back up?
pydio_cells_data and pydio_cells_postgres together, while the application is quiesced. pydio_cells_data holds Cells configuration, keys, certificates, indexes and file data; pydio_cells_postgres holds PostgreSQL's application data. A database-only or file-only backup is not a complete restore point.
Does xCloud automatically back up or update Pydio Cells?
No. The template pins Cells and PostgreSQL by immutable digest; a catalog re-sync affects new installations only, and an existing installation keeps its installed Compose snapshot until deliberately changed. Before changing either image, take a coordinated backup of both volumes and review the upstream Pydio Cells release and database compatibility notes, then verify sign-in, workspace access, and file uploads and downloads afterward.
What are the server requirements, and why does this page sell 16 GB?
The template manifest asks for 4 GB of RAM, two CPU cores and 20 GB of disk as an initial floor for Cells alongside PostgreSQL. Storage needs grow with uploaded files and retained versions, so this page sells the 16 GB tier as the entry rung with real room to grow.
What survives a restart?
Everything on pydio_cells_data and pydio_cells_postgres, because both are persistent named volumes. Restarting the containers or running an xCloud lifecycle action does not touch your workspaces, files or accounts.
Can I change my domain later?
You can, but treat it as a real reconfiguration, not a rename. The installation domain feeds Cells' external site URL; changing it later means re-checking anywhere the old URL was shared. Choose your final domain before inviting your team.
Is xCloud officially partnered with Pydio?
No. No official partnership or endorsement between xCloud and Pydio has been verified. This is a deployment and server-management option for the open-source Pydio Cells Community edition.
Can I cancel anytime?
Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
