Silo Hosting Live In 5 Minutes

Deploy Silo hosting and run a private S3-compatible object store with a web console. xCloud runs the official pgsty/silo image pinned by digest as a single container, generates the root access key and secret, mounts a persistent volume, serves the console over HTTPS on your domain and opens the S3 API on a dedicated server port, ready in about a minute. Restrict that port to the clients that need it.

What is Silo?

Silo is S3-compatible object storage, an independent, community-maintained fork of the open-source MinIO server published by PGSTY. Upstream says it keeps one maintained release line alive with builds, packages, multi-arch images, security fixes and the full web console, and that the protocol and your data are not renamed. Self-hosted Silo is the alternative to a hosted S3 storage service, under the AGPL-3.0 licence, and is not affiliated with MinIO, Inc.

On xCloud it is release RELEASE.2026-09-16T00-00-00Z, pinned by digest, as a single container with one silo_data volume. The console is served over HTTPS on your domain, while the S3 API listens on a dedicated server port over plain HTTP, protected only by credentials. It is a single node, so it is not a highly available cluster.

From Sign-Up to Your First Bucket In Just 3 Easy Steps

Self-hosting an S3 server normally means a Docker host, a data volume, generated credentials, a domain and a certificate before the first bucket exists. This is the same result without assembling any of it.

  1. Step 01

Create your xCloud account and pick Silo from the OneClick catalog. Choose your domain and target server — there are no extra fields, because xCloud generates the credentials.

  2. Step 02

    We Deploy It For You

One click. We run the official Silo image as a single container, mount the silo_data volume at /data, generate a 16-character root access key and a 32-character secret, publish the console over HTTPS and open the S3 API on a dedicated server port.

  3. Step 03

    Create Your First Bucket

Save the root access key and secret from the installation credentials, open the HTTPS console and sign in. Create a bucket, then point your S3 clients at the displayed S3 endpoint with the same credentials, using path-style addressing.

Everything Silo Does, On Your Own Server

S3-compatible object storage runs in full here: buckets, objects and a real web console, on a server you control.

  • S3-Compatible API

Existing S3 SDKs and tools connect to your endpoint using path-style addressing, with the root access key and secret generated at install.

  • Full Web Console

Create buckets, upload and browse objects from a browser behind a login, with no separate admin tool to install.

  • A Self-Hosted Backup Target

Send database dumps and application archives to a bucket on your own server rather than a third-party service.

  • Generated Root Credentials

The root access key and secret are generated at install; the upstream minioadmin default is not used, and wrong keys and anonymous requests are rejected.

  • Large Uploads Via Multipart

The console accepts uploads of up to 5 GiB per request; larger objects go through the S3 endpoint with multipart upload.

  • Survives A Restart

Buckets and objects live on the silo_data volume and were identical after two xCloud restarts in QA.

Everything You Need To Run Your Object Storage 24/7

Managed hosting for Silo, so the parts that keep it online are not your problem.

  • Silo deployed instantly
  • Image pinned by immutable digest
  • Root credentials generated for you
  • Free SSL certificate for the console
  • Server backups and snapshots
  • Server security updates included
  • 30+ server locations
  • Unused balance refunded

What You Can Do With Silo

  • Keep backups on your own object store

Point a backup tool at an S3 endpoint on your own server instead of a metered cloud bucket.

  • Give an app somewhere to put uploads

Let an application write user uploads through any S3 SDK, with path-style addressing and the generated keys.

  • Manage buckets from a browser

Use the web console over HTTPS to create buckets, browse objects and review usage.

  • Move large files in

Upload big objects with multipart upload through the S3 endpoint, since console uploads are limited to 5 GiB per request.

Silo vs Alternatives

Hosted S3 storage services
A hosted S3 service meters storage and traffic on a vendor's servers. Self-hosted Silo keeps objects on your own Cloud VPS and speaks the same S3 protocol.
MinIO
MinIO has its own OneClick page, which runs the PGSTY community fork as well. Silo is that fork under its own name; upstream says it is independent of MinIO, Inc.
Garage
Garage has its own OneClick page as a lightweight S3-compatible store for small-to-medium self-hosting. Silo includes the full web console that upstream ships with its MinIO fork.
RustFS
RustFS has its own OneClick page as an S3-compatible server written in Rust with a built-in console. Silo is a Go fork of MinIO, with the same data format.

See why agencies, developers, startups, and growing businesses choose xCloud to power their projects.

xCloud works really well, I am surprised by its performance being this the release version, I have tried many paid platforms such as runcloud, cloudpages or serveravatar, as well as free platforms such as CyberPanel, CloudPanel or Hestia Control Panel and direct competitors such as SpinupWP and FlyWP. Of all those that I have tried, the platform that works best for WordPress is SpinupWP and I believe that xCloud can reach and surpass that development, its roadmap is promising. Congratulations to the xCloud team, I hope they become the leading platform in the segment, it has all the potential to achieve it!

I've been with runcloud for the last 3 years. However, after trying xcloud for the last month, I'm switching over. They are on a roll with their setup.

xCloud isn't just a solution. It's like one of that friend who got your back when you screw things up pretty bad.

Trust me when I say, once people explore the potential of xCloud they gonna switch from other panels, just keep delivering the best tech, lots of love for the team 😍😍

So far my experience has been smooth like silk. I didn't imagine that configuring and managing a VPS would be so easy. As of today, I have deployed 8 sites. The support is good, and they treat users with respect, even if they ask stupid questions (myself included). For the future, I hope for greater flexibility in scheduled backups and more comprehensive and consistent documentation. I'm sure that within a few months, xCloud will become the leader in its segment. This community is amazing, and the Staff here is super helpful.

Came from cloudways then to runcloud then to xcloud. Looks like I'm staying here.

I've recently taken all of my Vultr-hosted sites and gotten rid of cPanel for them to substitute it with xCloud. I have to say, I'm really impressed with xCloud so far! The interface is definitely the standout feature for me.
Tony Lewis
I came from Cloudways and won't go back. Highly impressed with xCloud. Glad I gave them a chance.
Jared McDowell
I like xCloud better than RunCloud, but one thing I'll point out is that some years ago RunCloud was hungry for business, the support was outstanding, and the community was active and helped each other. Maybe it was sold, there was a change in management, or they stopped being hungry, but the quality of the RunCloud offering declined and it hasn't been moving forward quickly. My point is that currently the xCloud team has the edge and it is theirs to keep or lose

Dear xCloud Team, I have been using xCloud for some time now and am genuinely impressed with its capabilities and the flexibility it offers by allowing users to bring their own VPS for management. It's a fantastic service, and my experience so far has been very positive. Successful migrated 5 sites on a single server. Xcloud migration tool worked great. There were few hiccups with security plugin like MalCare but disabling the plugin prior to migration worked just fine.

Frequently Asked Questions

Feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns you may have.

Can you self-host Silo with Docker?

Yes. Upstream's quick start runs the Silo image with a data volume, and this template is Silo Docker hosting already set up: the official image pinned by digest, generated root keys, one silo_data volume and an HTTPS console. It is your own Silo cloud object store.

How much RAM does Silo need?

The template asks for 256 MB of memory, 1 vCPU and 10 GB of storage; idle use in QA was about 65 MiB. The 6 GB plan is the entry rung here. Disk is the real limit, since every object lives on the silo_data volume.

Is Silo free?

Yes, AGPL-3.0 open source with no fee. The dedicated Cloud VPS and its disk are what you pay for, cancellable any time. Objects stay in a volume you control, and you decide who may reach the S3 port.

Is Silo the same as MinIO?

Not exactly. Silo is an independent fork of the open-source MinIO server maintained by PGSTY and is not affiliated with MinIO, Inc. It keeps the S3 protocol and the data format. This site's MinIO page runs the same community fork under that name.

How do I sign in to Silo?

Use the generated root access key and secret from the installation credentials, both for the HTTPS console and for S3 clients. Treat the pair like a root password, because it can read, write and delete every bucket on the server.

How do applications connect to Silo?

Point any S3-compatible client at the S3 endpoint shown in the installation credentials, using path-style addressing and the same access key and secret. Do not set MINIO_SERVER_URL to that address, because the container cannot reach the host's public IP and console login breaks.

Is the Silo S3 API behind HTTPS?

No. The console is served over xCloud-managed HTTPS, but the S3 API is published on a dedicated server port over plain HTTP, protected by credentials. Restrict that port with a firewall if only chosen clients should connect, and avoid sending sensitive data across untrusted networks.

Can I upload very large files to Silo?

Console uploads are limited to 5 GiB per request by the proxy. For larger objects, use the S3 endpoint with multipart upload from a client such as an S3 SDK or a command-line tool, which bypasses the console's proxy limit.

Is Silo highly available?

No. This is a single-node install, so it suits backups and application uploads on one server, not a clustered, highly available store. If you need redundancy, copy important buckets elsewhere on a schedule and keep a tested restore path.

How do I back up Silo?

Back up the whole silo_data volume while writes are paused, and keep the root credentials with the encrypted backup. Pausing writes keeps the object store consistent. Test a restore on a spare server before you rely on the copy for anything critical.

How do I upgrade Silo?

The install stays on pinned RELEASE.2026-09-16T00-00-00Z until you adopt a newer template version. Take a verified volume backup, peruse upstream's release notes, then redeploy and check a bucket and an upload. Nothing upgrades automatically, and a console login after the redeploy confirms the root keys still work.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
