What is TeslaMate?

TeslaMate is a self-hosted data logger for your Tesla, written in Elixir, storing data in Postgres and visualising it with Grafana. It records drive data with high precision, tracks charge costs, looks up addresses, supports geofencing, handles several vehicles on one account and publishes vehicle data to a local MQTT broker for tools such as Home Assistant, Node-RED and Telegram. A self-hosted TeslaMate is a Tesla data logger on your own server. It is AGPL-3.0 licensed and is not affiliated with Tesla.

On xCloud it is TeslaMate 4.1.1 with PostgreSQL, Grafana, Mosquitto and Caddy, all pinned by digest. Caddy protects every public route with HTTP Basic authentication and Grafana sits at /grafana/ with its own admin password. The teslamate_db, teslamate_grafana and teslamate_import volumes hold durable data, and a generated encryption key protects stored Tesla API tokens.

Sign In And Connect Your Tesla
Open your domain, pass the access prompt with the generated credentials, then follow TeslaMate's supported Tesla authorisation flow; the resulting tokens are encrypted with the generated key. Open /grafana/, pass the same prompt and sign in as admin with the generated Grafana password.

How much RAM does TeslaMate need?

The template floor is 2048 MB of RAM, 2 CPU cores and 10 GB of disk, because TeslaMate, PostgreSQL, Grafana, Mosquitto and Caddy all run. The 6 GB plan clears the floor, and your driving history grows the database.

Can you self-host TeslaMate with Docker?

Yes, and this template is teslamate docker hosting without the setup: the app, PostgreSQL, Grafana, Mosquitto and Caddy images pinned by digest, named volumes, a generated encryption key and HTTPS, with a login in front of every route.

Is my TeslaMate dashboard password protected?

Yes. Caddy asks for a generated access username and password before any TeslaMate or Grafana page loads, and Grafana has its own admin login at /grafana/. Your Tesla API tokens are stored encrypted with a key you must keep.

Does TeslaMate work with Home Assistant?

Yes. Upstream publishes vehicle data to a local MQTT broker and lists Home Assistant, Node-RED and Telegram integrations. The template includes a Mosquitto broker on the private network, with its volumes reserved and holding no durable state.

Can I import data from TeslaFi into TeslaMate?

Yes. Upstream can import data from TeslaFi and tesla-apiscraper. The template provides an import volume for the files. Test an import on a copy of your data first, and keep your TeslaFi export until you check the results.

Is TeslaMate an alternative to TeslaFi?

For logging drives and charges, yes. Upstream offers a TeslaFi import and publishes no comparison. TeslaMate is a self-hosted project, so you run updates, backups and the Tesla token yourself.

Is TeslaMate free?

Yes. TeslaMate is licensed under AGPL-3.0 and has no licence charge. The Cloud VPS is the only bill, so this TeslaMate cloud install is yours alone.

How do I back up TeslaMate?

Back up teslamate_db, teslamate_grafana and teslamate_import together. The two Mosquitto volumes hold no durable state. Keep ENCRYPTION_KEY with the backup, because changing it makes stored Tesla API tokens unreadable.

How do I upgrade TeslaMate?

TeslaMate stays on its pinned 4.1.1 images until a newer template version is adopted. Copy the three data volumes beforehand and check the release notes. No upgrade is automatic.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
