VersityGW Hosting Live In 5 Minutes

Deploy VersityGW hosting and get a private S3 endpoint backed by plain files on your own server. xCloud runs the pinned VersityGW v1.8.0 image, generates the root access key and secret, mounts persistent volumes for buckets and extra users and publishes the S3 API and the web console over HTTPS in minutes.

What is VersityGW?

VersityGW, the Versity S3 Gateway, is an S3 translation service: it accepts S3 API requests and serves them from a storage backend. With the posix backend used here, it turns a local filesystem into an S3 server, so common access to the files via POSIX or S3 is possible.

Upstream also ships an optional web interface for managing and exploring buckets, which this template publishes at /ui/ on the same domain as the S3 API.

From Sign-Up to a Live S3 Endpoint In Just 3 Easy Steps

An S3-compatible endpoint normally means a gateway, a storage directory, credentials, a domain and a certificate before the first upload. This is the same result without assembling any of it.

  1. Step 01

Create your xCloud account and pick VersityGW from the OneClick catalog. Choose your domain and target server — there are no extra fields to fill in.

  2. Step 02

    We Deploy It For You

One click. We bring up the official VersityGW image, pinned by immutable digest, mount the versitygw_data volume for buckets and objects and the versitygw_iam volume for additional S3 users, generate the root access key and secret, and publish the S3 API and web console over HTTPS on your domain.

  3. Step 03

Open The Console And Create A Bucket

Open your HTTPS VersityGW URL at /ui/ and sign in with the access key and secret key from the installation credentials. Create a bucket there, or point an S3 client at the site with path-style addressing and region us-east-1 and create one from the CLI.

Everything VersityGW Does, On Your Own Server

VersityGW runs in full here: an S3 API and a web console on your own domain, backed by plain files on a volume you own.

  • S3 API For Your Tools

Use the AWS CLI, SDKs and rclone against the endpoint, with path-style addressing and region us-east-1.

  • Objects Are Plain Files

Buckets and objects are stored as ordinary files on the volume, with metadata in extended attributes.

  • Built-In Web Console

The console at /ui/ lets you create buckets and upload and download objects without a client.

  • Signed Requests Only

There is no anonymous access: unsigned requests and wrong keys are rejected, and extra users can be created with their own permissions.

  • Small Footprint

A single container with no database sidecar; measured idle use in QA was under 16 MiB.

  • Persistent Buckets And Users

Buckets, objects and users survive an xCloud Restart because they sit on the versitygw_data and versitygw_iam volumes.

What You Can Do With VersityGW

  • A private S3 endpoint for your apps

Point application uploads and SDK calls at an S3 API that lives on your own server.

  • Targets for backup and sync tools

Use the endpoint with the AWS CLI or rclone as a destination for backups and file sync.

  • Browse and manage buckets in a browser

Create buckets and upload or download objects from the web console without installing a client.

  • Keep data as ordinary files

Because objects are plain files on a volume, the data is simple to inspect and to back up with the volume.

See why agencies, developers, startups, and growing businesses choose xCloud to power their projects.

xCloud works really well, I am surprised by its performance being this the release version, I have tried many paid platforms such as runcloud, cloudpages or serveravatar, as well as free platforms such as CyberPanel, CloudPanel or Hestia Control Panel and direct competitors such as SpinupWP and FlyWP. Of all those that I have tried, the platform that works best for WordPress is SpinupWP and I believe that xCloud can reach and surpass that development, its roadmap is promising. Congratulations to the xCloud team, I hope they become the leading platform in the segment, it has all the potential to achieve it!
Brian Geovanny
I've been with runcloud for the last 3 years. However, after trying xcloud for the last month, I'm switching over. They are on a roll with their setup.

I'm moving my servers to xCloud, a cloud control panel by M Asif Rahman and the WPDeveloper team. Their roadmap looks interesting and no, there are no team mates nor API limits with xCloud! #xCloud #wordpress #hosting

xCloud is like having an expert server team on call — without the big agency costs. It's given me back my time and given my clients peace of mind. Highly recommended for freelancers and small teams who want reliable performance and security.

xCloud isn't just a solution. It's like one of that friend who got your back when you screw things up pretty bad.

Trust me when I say, once people explore the potential of xCloud they gonna switch from other panels, just keep delivering the best tech, lots of love for the team 😍😍

So far my experience has been smooth like silk. I didn't imagine that configuring and managing a VPS would be so easy. As of today, I have deployed 8 sites. The support is good, and they treat users with respect, even if they ask stupid questions (myself included). For the future, I hope for greater flexibility in scheduled backups and more comprehensive and consistent documentation. I'm sure that within a few months, xCloud will become the leader in its segment. This community is amazing, and the Staff here is super helpful.

Came from cloudways then to runcloud then to xcloud. Looks like I'm staying here.

I've recently taken all of my Vultr-hosted sites and gotten rid of cPanel for them to substitute it with xCloud. I have to say, I'm really impressed with xCloud so far! The interface is definitely the standout feature for me.
Tony Lewis
I came from Cloudways and won't go back. Highly impressed with xCloud. Glad I gave them a chance.
Jared McDowell
I like xCloud better than RunCloud, but one thing I'll point out is that some years ago RunCloud was hungry for business, the support was outstanding, and the community was active and helped each other. Maybe it was sold, there was a change in management, or they stopped being hungry, but the quality of the RunCloud offering declined and it hasn't been moving forward quickly. My point is that currently the xCloud team has the edge and it is theirs to keep or lose

Dear xCloud Team, I have been using xCloud for some time now and am genuinely impressed with its capabilities and the flexibility it offers by allowing users to bring their own VPS for management. It's a fantastic service, and my experience so far has been very positive. Successful migrated 5 sites on a single server. Xcloud migration tool worked great. There were few hiccups with security plugin like MalCare but disabling the plugin prior to migration worked just fine.

Frequently Asked Questions

Feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns you may have.

How do I sign in?

Use the access key and secret key from the installation credentials at the /ui/ path. The generated key is the root account, so keep it private.

Which addressing style do clients need?

Path-style, with region us-east-1.

What runs alongside VersityGW?

Nothing. It is a single container with no database sidecar.

Can applications get their own credentials?

Yes. The root key can read, overwrite and delete every bucket, so give applications their own users with their own permissions; those users are stored on the versitygw_iam volume.

Is anonymous access possible?

No. Every request must be signed; unsigned requests and wrong keys were rejected in QA.

Why did my first download of a .zip, .bin or .iso object fail with 403?

Downloads pass through the Cloudflare edge, where the first signed HEAD request for a new .zip, .bin or .iso style object can return 403 and make aws s3 cp fail on its first attempts. Use aws s3api get-object or an SDK GetObject call, or repeat the command.

Is there an upload size limit?

Uploads through Cloudflare are limited to about 100 MB per request, so use multipart uploads for large objects.

What should I back up?

Both volumes together, versitygw_data and versitygw_iam, while the container is stopped and with extended attributes preserved.

What survives a restart?

Buckets, objects and users, because they sit on named volumes; they survived an xCloud Restart in QA.

What are the server requirements, and why does this page sell 6 GB?

The template's baseline asks for 1 CPU core, 128 MB of RAM and 10 GB of disk; measured idle use in QA was about 9 MiB. This page sells the 6 GB tier as the entry rung, with real headroom above that baseline.

Does xCloud automatically back up or update VersityGW?

No. The template pins the VersityGW image by immutable digest; new installations use the pinned release, existing sites are not automatically upgraded. Read the upstream release notes, back up both volumes, then bump the readable tag and digest together on your own schedule. Server-level backups and snapshots are available on every Cloud VPS.

Is xCloud officially partnered with VersityGW?

No. No official partnership or endorsement between xCloud and the VersityGW project has been verified. This is a deployment and server-management option for the open-source VersityGW project.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
