What is Windshift?

Windshift is a self-hosted work management system: planning, tracking and collaboration in a fast, flexible workspace. Upstream describes boards, backlogs, nested work items, milestones, saved searches, dashboards, a customer portal and integrations, shipped as a single Go binary with the Svelte frontend built in. A self-hosted Windshift is an alternative to a hosted work tracker such as Jira Cloud, licensed AGPL-3.0, with your data under your control. Upstream ships nine built-in languages, including right-to-left support for Arabic.

On xCloud it is Windshift 0.8.9 from the official image, pinned by digest, as one container with SQLite and attachments on the windshift_data volume. xCloud generates the SSO secret and serves it over HTTPS. There is no pre-created administrator: the first account made in the setup wizard gets administrator access.

Who is the first Windshift administrator?

Whoever completes the setup wizard first. There is no pre-created admin login, and until setup finishes, authentication is not required on application routes, so anyone who reaches the URL can create that account. Finish setup straight after install.

Does Windshift integrate with GitHub, Gitea and Forgejo?

Upstream lists integrations with GitHub, Gitea and Forgejo, Jira project import, and email or webhook notifications. None is configured on install, and they were not QA-verified on this template, so set each up inside Windshift and test it.

Can I import Jira projects into Windshift?

Upstream lists Jira project import. It is something you set up inside Windshift after login, and it was not QA-verified on this template, so try it on a small project first and keep your original data until you are sure.

Does Windshift have a customer portal?

Yes. Upstream describes public boards and a customer portal that accepts external requests. Configure it inside Windshift, and remember that anything public is visible to anybody who can reach your domain, so review settings carefully.

Can you self-host Windshift with Docker?

Yes. Upstream publishes an image, and this template is Windshift Docker hosting with the mounts and limits set: the v0.8.9 image pinned by digest, a data volume, a signing secret and HTTPS on your domain.

How much RAM does Windshift need?

The manifest asks for 2048 MB of RAM, 1 CPU core and 5 GB of disk, which matches upstream's default memory budget. The code floor is 512 MB if you later lower both the app limit and the container limit together.

Is Windshift open source?

Yes. Windshift is licensed under AGPL-3.0, so keep upstream notices and corresponding-source obligations in mind. There is no licence fee, and you pay only for the Cloud VPS, which gives you a Windshift cloud of your own.

What is the SSO secret for?

SSO_SECRET signs sessions and encrypts SSO credentials, and it is applied on every start. Keep it stable, because changing it invalidates sessions. It is not shown in the credentials panel, so store it with your backups.

How do I back up Windshift?

Back up the windshift_data volume as one unit while the application is stopped. It holds the SQLite database, attachments, plugins and prompt files together. Restore it with the same SSO_SECRET. Nothing backs it up automatically.

How do I upgrade Windshift?

The install stays on its pinned v0.8.9 image until you adopt a newer template version. Read the upstream release notes and back up the windshift_data volume first, keeping the same SSO_SECRET, because changing it invalidates sessions. Nothing upgrades automatically.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
