Foldergram Hosting Live In 5 Minutes

Deploy Foldergram hosting and run a self-hosted photo feed that turns the photo and video folders on your server into an Instagram-style browser with profiles, a feed, reels, stories and places. xCloud starts the pinned image, sets a generated admin password before the web server starts, and keeps the gallery and database on one volume behind HTTPS. Foldergram has no upload feature, so you copy folders onto the server.

What is Foldergram?

Foldergram is a self-hosted web application that turns your local folders into an Instagram-style feed and profiles, released under AGPL-3.0. Upstream says it indexes supported media from a configured gallery root, stores metadata in SQLite and generates thumbnails and previews. Each folder that directly contains media becomes a profile, and the app offers a home feed, reels for video, stories and original-download controls. Self-hosted Foldergram is the option for people who would otherwise browse their photos in a hosted service such as Google Photos.

On xCloud the template runs ghcr.io/foldergram/foldergram 1.2.2, pinned by digest, as one container with a foldergram_data volume for the gallery, database, thumbnails and previews. Upstream treats every visitor as an admin until a password is set; the template closes that window by applying a generated password on the first boot. There are no uploads, multi-user accounts, comments or remote APIs.

From Sign-Up to a Live Foldergram Feed In Just 3 Easy Steps

Self-hosting Foldergram normally means a container, a domain, a certificate and a password gate before a single photo loads. This is the same result without assembling any of it.

  1. Step 01

Create your xCloud account, pick Foldergram from the OneClick catalog and choose a domain. There are no app-specific fields — xCloud generates the admin password.

  2. Step 02

    We Deploy It For You

One click. We bring up Foldergram 1.2.2 pinned by immutable digest, apply the generated admin password on first boot, mount the gallery volume, and publish it over HTTPS.

  3. Step 03

Unlock It And Copy In A Folder

Open your HTTPS URL and unlock it with the admin password from your installation credentials, then copy a folder of photos or videos onto the server and run a scan from Settings → Scan & Library.

Everything Foldergram Does, On Your Own Server

Foldergram runs in full here — its feed, Reels, Moments and likes, on infrastructure you control.

  • Feed, Reels And Moments

Each folder becomes a profile with its own feed, a video-only Reels view and Moments or Highlights — not a plain file browser.

  • No Database To Run

Metadata lives in SQLite and thumbnails are generated by Foldergram itself — no external services to configure.

  • Password-Protected From Boot

The generated admin password is applied on first boot, so the site is never open without one.

  • Shared Likes And Browse Modes

Likes are shared across signed-in admin and viewer sessions, with optional viewer or public browse modes you turn on from Settings.

  • Original Downloads, Fast Previews

Download original media alongside the fast generated previews Foldergram creates on scan.

  • Your Gallery, Your Server

Originals, database and generated previews all live on one persistent volume, surviving a restart.

Everything You Need To Run Your Photo Feed 24/7

Managed hosting for Foldergram, so the parts that keep it online are not your problem.

  • Foldergram 1.2.2 deployed instantly
  • Generated admin password at first boot
  • Optional viewer and public browse modes
  • Free SSL certificate
  • Server backups and snapshots
  • Server security updates included
  • 30+ server locations
  • Unused balance refunded

What You Can Do With Foldergram

  • Browse a photo archive like a feed

Point Foldergram at folders of photos and scroll them as an Instagram-style feed, with reels for videos and a rail of moments.

  • Turn each folder into a profile

Organise photos by trip or person in ordinary folders, and let each folder appear as its own profile with a grid of posts.

  • View a library without a database project

Keep your files in plain folders and let Foldergram index them into SQLite, rather than importing them into an application's storage.

  • Share a gallery with family

Give relatives viewer access, with an admin password only you hold, so they can browse and download originals.

Foldergram vs Alternatives

Google Photos
If your pictures are in Google Photos, Foldergram is a different tool: it browses folders you already keep on your own Cloud VPS, with no uploads and no cloud sync.
Immich
Immich has its own xCloud page and is a full photo platform. Foldergram has no uploads or accounts and simply presents existing folders, so compare features and sizing before choosing.
PhotoPrism
PhotoPrism has its own xCloud page and indexes and searches your media. Foldergram's template runs one container with SQLite and a single volume.
Lychee
Lychee has its own xCloud page and manages albums you upload and share. Foldergram only reads the folders you place on the server.

See why agencies, developers, startups, and growing businesses choose xCloud to power their projects.

xCloud works really well, I am surprised by its performance being this the release version, I have tried many paid platforms such as runcloud, cloudpages or serveravatar, as well as free platforms such as CyberPanel, CloudPanel or Hestia Control Panel and direct competitors such as SpinupWP and FlyWP. Of all those that I have tried, the platform that works best for WordPress is SpinupWP and I believe that xCloud can reach and surpass that development, its roadmap is promising. Congratulations to the xCloud team, I hope they become the leading platform in the segment, it has all the potential to achieve it!
Brian Geovanny
I've been with runcloud for the last 3 years. However, after trying xcloud for the last month, I'm switching over. They are on a roll with their setup.

Trust me when I say, once people explore the potential of xCloud they gonna switch from other panels, just keep delivering the best tech, lots of love for the team 😍😍

So far my experience has been smooth like silk. I didn't imagine that configuring and managing a VPS would be so easy. As of today, I have deployed 8 sites. The support is good, and they treat users with respect, even if they ask stupid questions (myself included). For the future, I hope for greater flexibility in scheduled backups and more comprehensive and consistent documentation. I'm sure that within a few months, xCloud will become the leader in its segment. This community is amazing, and the Staff here is super helpful.

Came from cloudways then to runcloud then to xcloud. Looks like I'm staying here.

I've recently taken all of my Vultr-hosted sites and gotten rid of cPanel for them to substitute it with xCloud. I have to say, I'm really impressed with xCloud so far! The interface is definitely the standout feature for me.
Tony Lewis
I came from Cloudways and won't go back. Highly impressed with xCloud. Glad I gave them a chance.
Jared McDowell
I like xCloud better than RunCloud, but one thing I'll point out is that some years ago RunCloud was hungry for business, the support was outstanding, and the community was active and helped each other. Maybe it was sold, there was a change in management, or they stopped being hungry, but the quality of the RunCloud offering declined and it hasn't been moving forward quickly. My point is that currently the xCloud team has the edge and it is theirs to keep or lose

Dear xCloud Team, I have been using xCloud for some time now and am genuinely impressed with its capabilities and the flexibility it offers by allowing users to bring their own VPS for management. It's a fantastic service, and my experience so far has been very positive. Successful migrated 5 sites on a single server. Xcloud migration tool worked great. There were few hiccups with security plugin like MalCare but disabling the plugin prior to migration worked just fine.

Frequently Asked Questions

Feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns you may have.

What is Foldergram used for?

Foldergram is used to browse photos and videos that already sit in folders on your server. It scans a gallery folder, makes each subfolder a profile, and shows the media as a feed, reels and stories with thumbnails and previews. It is a viewer for an existing library, not a place you upload to.

Is Foldergram free and open source?

Yes. Foldergram is open source under AGPL-3.0, so the app has no licence fee. The charge on xCloud is for the dedicated Cloud VPS that holds the app and your gallery, plus the deployment. The disk on that server limits how many photos and videos you can keep.

Can you self-host Foldergram with Docker?

Yes. For Foldergram Docker hosting the template runs the ghcr.io/foldergram image at 1.2.2, pinned by digest, as one container with a single named volume mounted at /app/data and HTTPS on your domain. It sets the generated admin password during the first boot, before the web server starts.

How much RAM does Foldergram need?

The manifest floor for Foldergram is 1024 MB of RAM, one core and 20 GB of disk. The 6 GB plan here leaves room for scans. The first scan generates thumbnails and previews in the background and can take a while for a large library, and disk use grows with originals and derivatives.

How do I add photos to Foldergram?

Copy folders into the gallery folder inside the container, /app/data/gallery, for example with docker cp from the server shell, then run a scan from Settings, Scan & Library. Each folder that directly contains media becomes a profile. Files placed loose in the gallery root are ignored by the scan.

Does Foldergram support uploads?

No. Upstream lists no multi-user accounts, cloud sync, uploads, comments, messaging, notifications or remote APIs. Foldergram only browses what is on disk, so getting photos onto the server is a separate step, by copying folders over the shell or syncing them with your own tools.

How do I sign in to Foldergram?

Open your HTTPS address and sign in with the admin password on your credentials card. Upstream treats every visitor as an admin until a password is set, so the template sets one on the first boot. After that the hash lives in the database; manage it under Settings, Security & Access, not in the environment.

How do I back up Foldergram?

Back up the foldergram_data volume while the container is stopped or from one consistent snapshot. It holds the gallery originals, the SQLite database with the admin password hash, thumbnails, previews and a first-boot marker. Thumbnails and previews can be regenerated by a rescan; the gallery and database cannot.

How do I upgrade Foldergram?

Version 1.2.2 stays fixed by digest, so adopting a newer catalog entry never touches a live gallery. Back up foldergram_data, read the upstream release notes, and select a later template version. Upstream notes that existing libraries migrate in place on the next full scan after some upgrades, so plan time for it.

Can Foldergram run as a public demo?

Upstream offers a read-only demo mode, but the template leaves it off and warns not to set PUBLIC_DEMO_MODE unless you really want a public read-only site. Role-based local access, with admin and viewer roles, is the normal way to share a gallery with other people.

Can I run Foldergram in the cloud on xCloud?

Yes. Foldergram cloud use means a dedicated Cloud VPS holding the app and your gallery, with your own domain and a certificate in front of it. A server you rent from another provider can be enrolled as self-managed instead. Size the disk for your originals first.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
