What is Spoolman?

Spoolman is a self-hosted web service to help you manage your 3D printer filament spools and monitor their usage, according to its README. It acts as a central database that integrates with printing software, keeps records of filament types, manufacturers and individual spools, offers a REST API and live websocket updates, and prints labels with QR codes. A self-hosted Spoolman is MIT licensed.

On xCloud the template runs Spoolman 0.26.1 with a Caddy 2.11.4 sidecar, both pinned by digest. Spoolman has no built-in authentication, so Caddy puts HTTP Basic Authentication in front of the UI, API, exports, backups, metrics and websocket routes, and Spoolman itself is never published. SQLite data, Spoolman's own backups and logs sit on the spoolman_data volume.

Is Spoolman free?

Yes. Spoolman is MIT licensed with no charge from the project. The Cloud VPS running Spoolman and its Caddy sidecar is the cost, and a filament inventory takes very little disk, so it can sit beside other apps on the server.

How much RAM does Spoolman need?

The manifest asks for 1 CPU core, 1 GiB of RAM and 2 GiB of disk as a floor for the two containers. The 6 GB plan leaves real headroom, and you can keep Spoolman beside OctoPrint or other apps on the same server.

Can you self-host Spoolman with Docker?

Yes, and this template is Spoolman Docker hosting without the setup: the official 0.26.1 image and a Caddy sidecar, both pinned by digest, Basic Authentication on every route, the spoolman_data volume and HTTPS on your domain.

Is Spoolman accessible without a password?

No. Spoolman has no built-in authentication, so this template puts installation-specific Basic Authentication in front of the whole web and API surface. The application container is never published, and the temporary Caddy configuration lives in memory.

Can Moonraker, OctoPrint or Home Assistant connect to Spoolman?

Upstream says it integrates with popular printing software, but here the client must send the same Basic Auth credentials as the installation. Whether a given client can do that depends on its settings, so test it and do not add an unauthenticated exception.

How do I rotate the Spoolman password?

Update the credentials in xCloud's Environment editor and redeploy, then update every connected client with the new value. Basic Authentication has no server-side logout, so closing browser sessions is the dependable way to clear a cached login.

Does Spoolman have its own backups?

Yes, Spoolman writes its own backup files, but they live inside the same spoolman_data volume, so they are not off-server disaster recovery. For a consistent copy, stop the app or use its SQLite backup endpoint, and copy the result off the server.

How do I back up Spoolman?

Back up the complete spoolman_data volume and keep a verified off-server copy. It contains the SQLite database, Spoolman's own backups and logs. Keep the Basic Auth credentials with the backup, because every client needs them.

How do I upgrade Spoolman?

The install stays on Spoolman 0.26.1 and Caddy 2.11.4 until you adopt a newer template version. Back up spoolman_data and read the upstream release notes first. Nothing upgrades the app automatically, and a redeploy keeps the volume.

Is there a Spoolman cloud service I can use?

This page is your own Spoolman cloud: a dedicated Cloud VPS running the open-source inventory, with your spools on a volume of your own. Nobody else shares it, and the Basic Auth gate keeps strangers out.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
